Hey friends.
I am wondering if the plastic trays from my dehydrator (it's like a knock-off Excaliber, sort of!) could run through the dishwasher?? The person who had it before me used it for beef jerky and who-knows-what, and stored it outdoors where I'm worried about mice "leavings". Would it totally wreck the racks if I put them through the dishwasher on a light cycle once over? They are sort of bendable, which is a little flimsier than plastic that I'd usually deem dishwasher fit, but they are just plastic...not solid trays, either....they are basket-weave for ventilation, I guess? I hope this is okay, 'cause I already removed the entire top rack of my dishwasher to make room for a few of 'em...I guess if I wreck these three or so, at least I have six more left in the machine!

I use very warm water from the sink and and a rag or sponge down gently to loosen up any stuff on my Excalibur. I wouldn't chance the dishwasher however. I had mice eat lots of my teflex sheets making holes and still just plain water and no soap at all or anything but water.

I actually clean my screens in the shower with the shower (it's one of those with a hose you can unrack and move around, forgot how they are called in english but if I translate their french name it would be a "telephone shower", I'm quite sure that's not the english name lol). That reminds me of a french comedian that had made a joke about "telephone showers" in an audio CD he made, I think he asked to use someone's washroom and then you would hear him talk as if under water like "oh I'm fine thank you" and when he came out he said "your telephone shower works really well" lol.

I would Google the manufacturer and see if I could find out if they were dishwasher safe. You might need those trays.

Not an excalibur. May be cheaper trays.

I've put my trays in the dishwasher for years now...Standing upright on bottom rack... and the Mesh on the top rack.. I dont dry with heat though.. Not sure if manufacture states dishwasher safe.. but I really want to make sure I kill germs.. not breed them .. I've had my excalibur for at least 25 years...Works great.. I would like some teflex sheets for them though.. I would think that as long as you are not using a water heat cycle your dish water would be as hot as the water coming out of the faucet .. I would soak them in this hot water if I was washing by hand... This is my thinking... I would email the manufacture if you have questions about it
I know this is about putting the trays in the dishwasher - but I wanted to toss this in. I carried a little tape measure with me and looked..looked until I found (what ended up being) a plastic drawer in a frame that would fit the trays so I could soak them. They don't fit in my sink and I was making such a mess all over trying to wash them.
I use that drawer a lot. Not only to soak/wash them in - but I set it in front of the Excalibur, pull out each tray and empty what I've dehydrated into the drawer as well. No more spilled goodies. *Ü*
