I haven't noticed folks on this board talking about starting or attending raw food pot lucks or other gatherings. Being an extraverted sort, and very much appreciating other like-minded raw people to visit with, I started a Raw Food Feasters Monthy Potluck Group early this summer It's gone very well and grows gradually in membership each month. Not the same exact group gathers each month, but every month there are about 10 people who attend. I find the group very energizing, and I've enjoyed sort of helping others to move into the raw lifestyle. The potlucks are a good forum for sharing good food and company, questions and discoveries, recipes and recommendations. It's all about raw.
Lately the group has had another growth spurt, which I thought might be helpful to some of you, who would like to start or join something similar. If you go to Meetup.com, you can find meet up groups in your area....search for the ones on raw food, healthy eating, etc. If there are none, you can sign up and say what sort of group you're looking for, and get joined up with others in your area looking for the same thing. It's a pretty amazing thing, but the membership of my little group took a big leap after I just dove in and started a meetup group. That part takes a little money, which I think will not be a problem at all for the group itself to sustain.) For those who would like to see, go to Http://rawfood.meetup.com/502 and check us out. (You can visit my site, or any other meetup groups or the meetup.com site itself all for free). Then see what's going on in your own area! I hope some of you have fun with this! I'll be watching to see what happens. :D

If it doesn't, start your own and make it happy OR, email the organizer and ask if you can assist.

BlazingJane: You will find some threads about meet ups in the Event section of the Forum. I think that rawmeetup.com is a great idea too. When I see a new person from my area (Phoenix/East Valley, I usually post a link to local potluck information.

Any charge to start meetup groups?

Also, here in CO we are very active, doing several rawlucks monthly, paid for $ dinners by others, game night plus more excuses to gather monthly basis too. So we get together often and have a great response. We don't do RSVP so never know how many shows for rawlucks. We recently had a successful Durian Party--another event to gather like beings. We probably have at one of our most common rawlucks 60 people at one time. The people are great, food is always awesome too. Never care on the number count, but it's always a blast. Last rawluck we had a house warming and I got to experience gathering fresh apples off the tree just the other night. We really are a community.

curlygirl, I live in Columbia, MO. There is my group in Columbia and another in Jeffferson City. Just keep those in mind if you're ever out our way! I did also join the St L group, and you are right...there's not much going on there. Pity. I'm sure there are raw food folks there...maybe they just need you to pull them together. I've been amazed at how quickly our group has grown. It's really fun. So much diversity.

Carolg, 'sounds like you've got a good thing going! I think you're in CO Spgs. My raw granddaughter is near there (in Peyton), and I hope she'll join you all one of these days. It does cost sto start a meetup group. It's about $12/month on the economy plan. I just bit the bullet to get it started, fuguring that I can start passing the hat at the potlucks and folks can kick in a little at each meeting. I decided to do it for 6 mos. and then re-evaluate, but I really like the fact that folks coming into the area can find us easily.
