Earlier this month I rode in my 6th MS 150 Bike Ride. It's 150 miles over a two day period. Riders raise lots of money for MS research. Last year was my first year to do it raw, and I posted about that experience, which was awesome.
This year was great as well. The two day course is very hilly, (the word "gruelling" comes to mind), and I felt a bit undertrained this year. Also, I had been taking some glucasomine for joint pain for a couple of years, so had little trouble with things like "arthritis knees", even though I am 67 and probably deserve a little knee discomfort. Well, I ran out of glucasomine about 6-8 weeks before the MS 150, and was so busy and distracted by life, that I just let it go. The Thursday before the ride, I got a little panicky as I realized that the ride could be really tough on my knees with all those monster hills, but it was too late to do much about it.
So here's the deal. I rode the whole 150 miles and other than being pretty tired at the end of the 2 days, I felt absolutely fine. I had not even a twinge in my knees or my low back, which also bothers me sometimes during a big hill ride. I was amazed and very grateful as I listened to others listing their aches and pains. It was wonderful to feel so good! And, of course, I attribute my well-being to my diet. My system is somewhat cleaner this year than it was even last year, and I think that the absence of joint discomfort is one of the benefits of clean, raw, almost 100% raw eating.
On Monday, the day after the ride finish, my legs felt fine--no leftover muscle fatigue or anything. I find this all remarkable, and at the same time predictable after having read a significant number of testimonies about the raw food diet being so good for almost anything physically bothersome.
So....I'm a happy, comfortable road rider. Stay tuned for next year's testimony. I'll still be raw and just a year older---no big deal! :D
