I guys,

I have another question about raw meat for kitties. Be warned, this is kind of gross question!!

But I am a court reporter. And awhile back I was in the murder case where these guys shot this other guy in the mountains and left his body in the mountains. When they found him frozen in the snow a few months later, all of his chest cavity was eaten out by a mountain lion.

When the forenzic pathologist testified, he said that he knew it was a mountain lion because "they only eat organ meat".

Yes, this is disgusting......

But it got me thinking about transitioning my cats to raw. Has anybody else heard that when going raw for cats you should feed them primarily organ meat?

I guess I'm not sure if house cat is the same as a mountain lion, but they are cats :0)

My cats hunt and when they bring them back and eat them, they normally eat everything except the intestines, they sometimes leave an odd tail, feet or head. But they eat the organ meat everytime.
Im talking about mouse, rat, bird, rabbit, mole organ meat...you get the idea!

I dont know enough about the size/genetic/specie difference , but i would not feed my cats large animal organ meat, because they would catch that in the wild, a big cat would do!

Think what your cat or a similar sized cat would catch in the wild, or ask others who know feral or wild cats, or have cats that hunt.

Because organ meat is v.fatty also, unless your cat is an outdoor cat or gets ALOT of exercise, i think i would( if my cats were indoor) only give them organ meat say once or twice a week?

Just my opinion!

I know that dogs should be fed 80% muscle meat, 10% bones, and 10% organ meat. I guess that is about the ratio of meat to bone to organs in prey animals. I assume that this holds true for cats as well. Of course Kodie, my siamese, refuses to eat anything that includes organ meat, even if I grind the little bit of organ meat that comes with the chicken and it's disbursed throughout the ground chicken meat. He just will not touch any of it. Talk about finicky!

thanks for your replies!

I have found the web site catnutrition.org and they have a recipe for their own raw cat food. Really neat site with lots of testimonials on what raw has done for various cats. And, along with organ meat, they use ground up bones.
