Finally!!! A POSITIVE article about the raw food lifestyle on a major news network. The only raw food things they have ever posted before were skeptical or false statements about how a raw food diet isn't good for you or doesn't work. I was so happy to see they finally put something positive on the news.

I read this and decided to pop into the forum! I haven't been a raw vegan in about 2 years, but think it is the best diet out there.

I just can't do it right now in college. I am losing weight, but wow...that much on raw. She rawks!

That's a familiar story. About time somebody in mainstream American printed it.

She is at my goal weight of 138. Only 54 lbs to go! RAW! RAW!

That's almost word for word what the video says -- a video actually aired, not just the article. Apparently it will air again a few times on CNN. There's a link to it on her blog: rawreform.blogspot.com

I was just sitting here sipping my morning coffee... i had the TV on CNN and then a segment called Fit Nation came on and Dr. Sanjai Gupta started talking about a woman that was hugely overweight that went on a raw foods diet and lost 146 pounds. she was talking about how she was working in a greenhouse in Iceland and it just came to her one day that she needed to eat raw foods to get healthy and that she just went cold turkey one day and never looked back. she looks great....and is still a raw foodist.
maybe someone has taped that segment and will post it.

or it might be on the CNN website. How VERY cool to have seen that.
it got my morning off to a good start.

I am so glad (after the horrible looking people Stossel picked to interview) that they picked Angela. She is the picture of health.

I clicked on the video and it began with a commercial for a dairy product that promises to fix digestion problems.

Are you sure you can't do it right now, while you are in college? I am a raw vegan college student, and there are many others out there, too.
Feel free to email me at ezo@comcast.net if you want to chat about raw college life, or pretty much anything!

It bothered me that they said that you can run into deficiencies in B12 and omega 3s. Duh, if you eat nuts and any type of nutritional yeast (plus there's something else I was reading today that does B12), you'll be fine. If you do worry about B12, take a supplement. It's not worth it to be sick, but the majority of people put such garbage in their mouth, it bothers me that anyone can say something bad about REAL FOOD.

"Giancoli believes there's a nutritional downside to a vegetarian diet. People who eat no animal foods run the risk of nutritional deficiencies such as a lack of vitamin B-12, iron and zinc and the powerful Omega-3 fatty acids found in fish, she said."

But heck, people are so sick on SAD food and you barely get any noise about it. It's just eat better cooked food, you'll be ok.... And what about all the heavy metals in fish, not to mention overfishing our supplies?? Yeah, mercury is GOOD for you.... heavy sarcasm..

People are prejudiced. What the heck do they think people were doing for thousands of years?

I LOVE Angela Stokes! She is such a beautiful light. She was one of the first people to inspire me to go raw--actually her and Alissa, then I came across Karen Knowler and loved her, too! Angela has some really cute videos of her singing lyrics on raw foods...very sweet.

I'm delighted to see the influence she has..

That was an awesome article. I hope it encourages more people to go at least 50% raw!

I've been looking around the forums the past couple of days trying to soak in as much info as I can but wanted to jump in and say that I saw this on CNN and was so inspired to try this that I'm now on day 5 of 100% raw. I've been on a SAD diet (didn't know what a SAD diet was until a couple of days ago, lol.. had to look it up) and am so grateful to have seen it. I have heard other people talk about raw foodism but I always thought it was so extreme and that I couldn't possibly do it.. now I'm wondering why I didn't try this sooner.. It just "fits" if that makes sense.

Anyway, I just wanted to jump in and say that I'm one of SAD dieters who saw this aired on CNN that has been encouraged to try raw foods and I'm sure there are probably many more.. :)
