Foodsaver Compact II sitting around here probably for years.

Found it just now...maybe from garage sale way back or clueless as not thrift store with no tags...

I pressed button, noise...the little bulb or whatever to show light on is missing unless it comes that way...and the other area above that which maybe is supposed to light up doesn't.

Can you help with lighting questions?

What type of bags would I need? Cheapest place to buy?

Worth using this tool?

For what as many have pickles kraut in jars, but maybe put the kraut into bags would save refrigerator room stacked on top of each other? Pickles I suppose just keep in the jars perhaps.

I was thinking once I am ready for one jar then I could open the sealed bag and transfer that one.

Help please.

Thanks.

It pays to clean I suppose at my house as you never know what you will find besides tons of fragrance oils for my soap making days. Sure wish someone or others would love them. I didn't think about making candles, but these could be for that purpose too...can't promise...oh, soapmaking 18 bar mold, wooden too....it would clear out a little stuff from here....sadly can't donate as mega bucks invested...oh, other things too...who knows at this moment or maybe I don't want to know either...my husband would rejoice if some are gone...and not hidden around here from him or myself sometimes...

I'm not familiar with that model but it's critical to understand vacuum sealing does *NOT* replace refrigeration, vacuumed food must still be refrigerated, all it does it add about 3-5 days to how long it will keep in the fridge.

With bags it's also important to understand the vacuum pressure will compress and suck out all the liquid of anything in the bag unless your model has a manual vacuum stop/seal button like the more advanced ones, I had bought a cheap basic one and tried to vacuum seal zucchini pasta and it sucked out tons and tons of water out of it and squished it to a pretty dry zucchini pancake.

So it depends what you want to seal and whether it has an accessory port for sealing jars, canisters, etc (that's what I use for liquids or food I don't want to squish, but mine does have the manual stop/seal button to stop it as soon as it starts squishing).

Oh, about the stuff you want to get rid of, why not sell it on ebay? You can get a good value, I sell all the stuff I no longer need on ebay and made a lot in return.

Raweater,
Thanks for ebay wisdom and your knowledge of Foodsaver. I'm not sure if there is a light missing or what as no light goes on when I stick it in outlet. Maybe I need to put a plastic bag in so that I can at least see if I can get a seal or a light.

What type of stuff have you sold on ebay. I have not had any LUCK with ebay. I do buy and turbojam.com was my investment this week. Thanks.

Not all models have lights. You also need food saver brand bags, regular plastic bags cannot be vacuum sealed. You should still be able to test it without a bag, it doesn't know if there's a bag or not so you should hear the pump.

On ebay I sold old legos, an RC (radio controlled) truck, stuff like that which I no longer used.

The title is the most important part of selling on ebay, when people search on ebay it only searches title, if you sell for example a phone and just put a title saying "phone", no one is ever going to see it other than by extreme coincidence, if you put more details in the title like "Panasonic cordless phone model ABC-1234" then you'll greatly increase your chances. A good description and photos is also important.

About 80-90% of my income comes from ebay (selling a software program I made and sell as well as a color printing service).

Raweater,
Impressive that ebay has been feeding you a nice income. I'm excited for you. Thanks for sharing.

OT: For me also the pricing has been the challenge regardless of the completed items. I have lots of shoes, uniform shirts (new) mainly. Shoes=new, some slightly used, but no junk. Oh, hemp mini skirts too plus some kids clothing. I also have a large ferret cage may try at Craigs list locally. Oh, now I'm thinking about that soap mold still have, wooden, 18 bars. Let's say, more than I need for sure here. I'll email you perhaps later re ebay as this is not the focus here. Thanks.
