Hi everyone,

I do not have a food processor and I am probably going to buy a vitamix. I was wondering if I need a food processor as well, or will the vitamix be fine?

Others may disagree -- but I use a blender when recipes call for a food processor. I just sometimes have to stop and start it if they don't call for items to be pureed. Should be fine. :)

I think with a little creativity, you could make either work as your only appliance. I have made smoothies in my fp, for example. If I had to choose, though, I'd probably choose the Vitamix.

There are inexpensive manual tools --grater, mandoline, manual nut chopper, garlic press, etc.-- that can sub for a food processor in many cases. I have gotten most of the little manual tools I have from antique malls or discount stores. 'Course, I am kitchen gadget junkie....and I prefer hand tools, not appliances.

Ha, Emma-Liza... Wanna know something funny? I press garlic with a big knife, but I crack almonds in a garlic press. Haha.

I have blender, have food processor and never owned Vitamix. So far no reason to invest in one as my blender is from my Bosch bread machine....very powerful.....

Thanks everyone for your responses,

I think I will just go ahead and get the Vitamix. I wont get a food processor just yet, unless I come across a really good deal!

You won't go wrong, you will absolutely love it. We have one, even before I knew or even thought about going RAW!! What a great investment.:)

Adding Water to food in a Vita-Mix makes the Food do a better job of chopping. Buy the Vita-Mix and a CHEAP Food Processor will do the trick.

I got by okay using a $60 osterizer 12 speed blender that came with a food processor attachment. Works well, but the fp attachment leaks if I put even the tiniest amount of liquid in it. I keep a towel handy to wipe up the spatters. Now I have a vitamix which is better than I imagined. My old osterizer is still sitting on the counter, and will stay there until I shell out for a real food processor. That will be after I get a dehydrator! :)
