My sister (for the 2nd time) is taking Human Growth Hormone for rapid wt loss. She lost about 40 lbs last time she did this, put alot of the wt back on, and now is on her 2nd go-round. Does anyone know much about this? I googled it and all I found (for bad side effects) were insulin resistance, possible cardiac effects, and not much else. I discouraged her, but she is hellbent on that rapid wt loss! And forget about raw, she's another one of those "oh, I could never do that..." people. Heeeeeelp!

I don't think you can do much to help her other than being a positive role model. Some people really just don't care about their health.
I wish you and your sister all the best . . .

Thanks, Rawstrength. I worry about her, especially since she has PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome) and I know that insulin resistance plays a part in that too. I also found that HGH speeds up the growth of any cancer that might be present in a person. (no cancer diagnosis with her, but why take that chance??) Scary stuff.

Hi Zaphirah! We don't live that close. Maybe I'll mention raw again...

There doesn't seem to be much extensive study on human growth hormone. I think that there are some benefits to it but like all things, too much of a good thing is almost always bad. We naturally product human growth hormone and she is just trying to take extra to make her lose the weight. So it falls into the category of the "too much of a good thing". Anyway, I have personally seen people take this for weight loss and I know that it absolutely does work. It literally melts the fat off of the body, leaving nice lean muscle behind. The price that she will pay is that her body will not know how to react once the hormone is stopped and she will gain the weight back again even if she follows a very strict diet. Once she starts the HGH she will forever have to take it to maintain the new weight unless she learns to change her habits and lose the weight naturally. I'm sorry to hear about you having to watch her go through this but you might have to let her learn on her own for this one. The last time I checked HGH was around 400 - 600 per month and I think she will get very tired of paying that price only to gain the weight back. Good luck to you... perhaps she will learn by example in the end.

I think you're right, Erika. People must live their own lives. Wow, that is mucho money for a diet!!!
