Hi All!....so the Vitamix that I won on Ebay wasn't the 5200 as listed, but a BarBoss! ....I'm not sure yet if I am upset....The BarBoss is a commerical blender and more expensive....but I was looking for the 5200...I don't need it to make nut butters...but I do want it to make fabulous smoothies out of any fruit or veggie I put in it....so...I'm wondering it anyone has this blender and what do you think????!!! Thank You!...

deberaw,

They should use the same 2HP motor. Essentially the same product. Did you get it for a good price?

Thank You Marco...Yes, got it for $269.00 plus $18.00 s/h....very happy about that...the blender does work great...just seems kinda clunky on my countertop...and just want to make sure it does all that the 5200 does.....

Excellent deal if it is in like new condition.

Below is the Barboss:

And then the 5200:

As you can see they are for the most part the same in design. Did yours come with a tamper? They are both very large and "clunky" :D

Yes they do look very similar - I received the 64 oz., and I can look into getting the smaller canister too...mine did not come with a tamper, but I imagine I can get that too........I'm thinking that I did get a great deal after all...but I thought I read somewheres that the bar blender doesn't do all the puree-ing and such that a non-bar blender VM would....hmmm....now where did I see that???! Thank you for the pictures and info! Deb

funny you should mention the bar boss. i was just in a resturant supply store to buy a vita mix and they had a great price on the floor model of the bar boss. i snapped it up right away becuse it has a pulse button that the others dont have. i didnt get as good a deal as you did but if yours is new then you got a great price. since its a commercial unit i am sure that its going to last a long time. the one i got came with the 48oz container...but for me thats ok. since its only for my use.
i am sure that you have the wet blade with it and you will be able to make all the good smoothies you want to.

in fact.... i think you can do anything with the bar boss that you can do with a household vita mix.

i like products made for commercial use they have no extra crap on them....i also bought a commercial cusinart that was on sale as well. just plain grey in colour but built like a tank. i have a champion juicer thats also a commercial model and its well worth the money.

anyway ... congrats on getting a great price. i hope you like the bar boss i think its great.

Thank You!..It is 2 years old.....now the VM rep I talked to said it really isn't made to do nut butters {that is okay, my Champ. does that well:)}, but now I am wondering if it will make smooth cheescake and nut cheeses.....? I am trying to recall where I saw that bar blenders don't grind or puree like regular ones, if that is true, I'll need a non-bar VM...I don't need it to grind grains, but to make other things besides smoothies would be great.........

Ditto on the commerical quality! Deb

i think you wont have any problem making nut butter and nut cheeses.... the blade is very sturdy and i think you can expect to find a really nice smooth mix. this is why i like the pulse button.... you have complete control over it to blend as little or as much as you like.
the vita mixes are so powerful that you cant really run them for too long anyway without things getting too warm.
i havent used mine yet but with the last one i had ( and it was REALLY OLD)
i just pulsed it a bit at a time till things were mixed. it goes REALLY fast if you just turn it on and let it go.

as i was told by the vita mix people.... the home version comes with a wet blade container for smoothies and you have the option of getting a dry blade container as well. thats used for grinding grain and stuff. the blade on the dry container is thin and the vita mix guy told me that he has seen them break off. so the wet blade container is sturdier.

the way i look at it. if i want a dry blade container i can buy one. its an extra $144 dollars. but honestly.... i dont think i will use it that much.

give your container a try and see if it does the trick for the things that you need to make. if you feel you need a dry blade container.... you can buy one. you got such a good price on your vita mix.... you'll STILL be ahead even if you buy the dry blade container.

all containers fit the commercial blenders so no worries there.

i was a little unsure about the 48 oz container that i got with mine but i think it will be big enough. when you think about it ..... thats ALOT os smoothie LOL.
i dont plan on making cheese with mine.... just soups and smoothies.
i got that professional cuisanart to do my dirty work for bread dough and crackers and stuff.

i havent had a chance to use any of my stuff yet because i am still converting my kitchen to raw...and i dont have time to mess any serious food prep yet.

let us know how you like your bar boss when you get going with it. i look forward to hearing about what you do with it.

:eek:You're converting your kitchen to raw?! Lucky you!

Deberaw - enjoy the blender. I'm sure it's great. I've been to plenty of juice joints and smoothie shops where they make wonderful purees using the Bar Boss.

My mom killed the tamper on my old VM and I ordered another for not too much money.

Sorry I don't know about the Barboss... I do like the coloring though. It looks extra snazzy.

well Rawstrength..... i am TRYING to convert my kitchen to raw. you know.... getting rid of the microwave and toaster over and the crock pot LOL.
AND.... getting rid of sad food thats still hanging around. and my fridge is SO small....barely enough room in there for a weeks worth of veggies let alone have room to put 10 pounds of almonds or bulk stuff.

thats the most frustrating thing of all....no cold storage space.
i am trying to do my diet as cheaply as possible so that means buying in bulk....but i have no room so......i'm working on that LOL.

I LOOVE IT!!!!!

I made a smoothie with kale and apple and banana....very smooth...and put it to the test with making the Bomb cheese and a cheesecake......soooo wonderfully smooth...I am very happy!......I will order a tamper.....but don't need the dry blade container.....I have a commerical cuisinart...grinder/chopper that works well for grinding grains....and I don't do that very often these days....

Thank you SO much for all the feedback and taking the time to help me sort this out.....I am very happy with it now!!!:D Deb
