I need really easy recipes as I'll be making food with kids at a preschool. I can bring my blender but they definitely wont' want to wait for something to dehydrate...anyone have any kid-friendly fast, easy, and affordable recipes to share? Thanks!

How about frozen pops? Frozen grapes?

And I agree kids love cut up fresh fruit.

Make "ants on logs" - bananas split w/a nut butter and raisins (could use celery too)

Kids really like celery and nut butter. Especially since the wonder pets like celery so much=) You could bring a bowl of the unshelled nuts you use and let them feel them and see them --and a nutcracker to discover whats inside.

You could make caramel apples with the small apples and some thick shishkabob skewers. They could decorate their own with nuts, coconut or dried fruit etc.

You could make funny face salads. Cut up different vegetables with different textures and print out one or some salad faces to give them the idea.

Kids love cut up fruits and vegetables. Nothing fancy.

Of course they do, but I have to impress them and the parents :) I want raw to be special, not just boring stuff they've already had.
Chia pudding is one of my ideas. Raw fudge. Apples with dipping sauce. I just want some more ideas.

gorilla sandwiches! where you scoop out the seeds and fill with a nut or seed pate. i know a lot of schools don't allow nuts but sunflower seeds should be ok. did they give you an allergen list of forbidden foods?
what about two seed pate recipes, a savory and a sweet? you could process the seeds, separate into two batches, process some veg and savory spices and add to half, process some fruit and sweet spices and add to the other half. use it to stuff cherry tomatoes and hollowed our strawberries or slices of apple. think cinnamon pate for the fruit sweetened with soaked dates maybe. NICE!

you could use soaked cashews for the sweet recipe recipe, it turns very creamy.

For sweet, what about a fruit chocolate dip too! Fudge ball, etc...

For salty, you can try a nacho cheese dip too. Or you can cut into ship shape a raw red cabbage, and have some vegetable as dip.

I love the idea about making faces or even some animals.

Best wishes, let us know what you do and how it goes!

p.s One thing to keep in mind, some children has allergies with nuts and honey. Perhaps to give a warning of the food content if you do serve nuts!

Raene, you could also have some dehydrated stuff made up ahead of time such as crackers or fruit leather (maybe make up the banana fruit leathers ahead of time and then demo how to make the creamy filling and strawberry sauce for Alissa's crepes or simply spread any nut butter/cream (you can make on your own) on them and roll up) I'm sure kids would like them!

But aside from that, kids like ice cream so you could make them some ice cream and maybe a topping like, again, strawberry and/or chocolate/carob sauce and even caramel (the same stuff used for the apple-dipping could top ice cream!)

I have a recipe for my favorite ice cream as well as a photo of a sundae I made on my website: http://eatlivingfood.com/recipes.htm Maybe you could do something like that with them...let them assemble their own sundaes.

Ummm...you could also make, ahead of time, some mini-pizza crusts and then just whip up a sauce, a cheeze and have a few veggie toppings and let them assemble mini-pizzas...same with a taco-type deal...have some pre-made tortillas made and then whip up salsa, and nacho-cheeze and make nachos...you could also do a quick nut-based taco meat.

You could let them create their own fruit salad by taking a variety of fruits to choose from. Cut strawberries, grapes, banana slice, assorted berries, pineapple, raisins, etc. Maybe even a little lime or orange juice blended with dates or agave for a sauce. My little one loves to make her own food. Here she is with her own creations.

Cool pictures!
Thanks everyone...I like the pizza idea b/c it's something that's not sweet and would still be a hit with the kids.
