I was at Costco last week and they have professional mandolines. I've gotten mine out and absolutely LOVE it!!! They are a bit pricey ($50.00) but then my husband got me a small one but every nice and sturdy about 10 years ago and it was $30.00 back then. Anyway, if you want a great one this one will last your pretty close to FOREVER!

What kind? Model? What does it do? We would love more details or maybe just me the detailed person.

I threw out my mandoline when I got my food processor, it can do all the same jobs (using the discs) but faster and is also faster to clean.

Raweater,
Maybe this is why I haven't used the mandolin when I have the Cuisinart and many additional blades purchased; however my daughter doesn't own either so maybe Thanksgiving mandolin going with me. Of course knife works well too. I hardly paid anything for my mandolin so no big investment like my cuisinart 11 cup was. Thanks for always sharing your wisdom.

Fifty is not that expensive. Pampered chef's is even more. They're spendy but a really fun tool to have in a raw vegan kitchen.

Well, the box just says professional mandoline slicer and it's distributed by MIU France, item #225582. Let me go and see if there's anything on the instruction manual......well, here's a website: http://www.mandoline.com and a phone #, (888) 879-0206. It does slices that are paper thing up to your thicker slices. It does the same with a serrated blade. Then there are matchstick julienne slices and french fry julienne slice size. I just used it today to make the pasta for Alissa's fettucini recipe, using the serrated blade and it turned out great. (very thin) I too have the cuisinart and I still love having a mandoline....who knows why but I do, especially this one.
Oh, it also does a waffle fries or Gaufrette cut.

I think the mandoline can go paper thin and i don't think the FP can go quite that thin. I also think there's more control with the mandoline.

I agree with this. I am going to return the mandoline I bought last week. I love my FP.

Cuisinart do sell 1 mm ultra thin slicing discs, not sure if that qualifies as paper thin but I doubt I'd want to slice thinner than that, it's great for chips and zucchini lasagna pasta.

Raweater,
Yes, Cuisinart puts out many blades you can add to your expenses if you wish. Thanks again for sharing.
