This got misdirected in my email box and arrived last Friday - for some it's past midnight - for some of us it's not. So I suppose if you are online and see this posting, you might want to contact the URL below and make your opinions known on the matter of irradiating spinach & lettuce.
Thank you for contacting me about the use of ionized radiation for the control of foodborne pathogens. I appreciate having the benefit of your comment on this issue.
As you may know, on August 22, 2008, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) proposed amending food additive regulations to provide for the safe use of ionizing radiation for the control of foodborne pathogens and extension of shelf-life in fresh iceberg lettuce and fresh spinach. This action will permit limited irradiation of fresh iceberg lettuce and fresh spinach in order to reduce microbial pathogens that have been associated with these crops in the past.
The FDA is required by law to accept comments from the public until September 22, 2008, on any proposed program changes and your comments may be submitted at http://www.regulations.gov or sent directly to the agency at the following address:
Dockets Management Branch (HFA-305)
Food and Drug Administration
Document ID # FDA-1999-F-2405

I am encouraged by your willingness to participate in this process, and you may be certain that I will continue working with my Senate colleagues to provide responsible oversight of the FDA. I appreciate having the opportunity to represent the interests of Texans in the United States Senate. Thank you for taking the time to contact me.
Sincerely,
JOHN CORNYN
