Hi all

I am hoping you can help me. I am looking to replace my use of vanilla extract with actual vanilla bean. Does anyone know what the equivalences might be? For instance, if a recipe calls for a teaspoon of vanilla how much vanilla bean would you use?

Thank you for any wisdom you might be able to offer!

Peace!

This link is from another thread titled "cheap vanilla beans". You may find the answer on this site. Lots of good information about how to store beans and make extract.

I got my beans the other day and I'm not sure I did them right. I rehydrated (although the beans were still moist) and then took out little tiny seeds put them in a small bowl of water with the chopped up bean, then removed the pod. I was told this would give me some sort of "custard?" All I had was water with black floaties in it.

What am I doing wrong/right?
