Hello all!

We just got back from Raw Spirit Fest. We bought some organic fresh fruits while there and debated about whether it would be better to ship it home or take it on the plane. We asked a bunch of people there and no one knew for sure. So we decided to take a risk and explore a new approach.....

We packed all of our organic foods in our checked baggage and labelled it "Certified Organic Foods Do Not Irradiate!". Then, when we got to the baggage check-in, we asked to speak to a supervisor. We explained the situation and they walked us over to TSA, explaining to them that our bags needed to be hand searched and COULD NOT be xrayed. They were all a bit confused, as if this had not happened before, but proceeded to hand search everything and communicated to each other that these bags COULD NOT go on to the machines like other baggage and were to be just loaded on the plane.

I was really amazed how smoothly it went and how cooperative everyone was. We are definitely going to do this in the future. If you decide to do it, make sure to allow extra time.

On the not-so-good news front....
My son used to the a long-haul truck driver. He told me that major truck scales along freeways have huge x-ray (type) machines that the trucks have to go by slowly. The hole trailer gets radiated that way, so ALL our produce that's not local may be subject to stuff we don't want.
