I'm 26 years old and have just moved to Asheville, NC from Arcata, CA.

I am actually on a juice fast right now, day 16 and have 5 days left to go. I found out about the raw food diet because I was researching the appropriate way to break my juice fast (all vegies and some apples). I read a lot about people's experiences and am very inspired.

I have battled with Psoriasis for 8 years now and this is the reason why I went on the juice fast. I was using a spray called Skin Cap which apparently has a very high steroid content. I started getting sick, bruises, brain fog, very fast weight gain (gained 20lbs of fat while training for 1/2 marathon!), thinning of the skin etc. I was overdosing on steroids, my medicine was making me sick. I decided to go on the juice fast to clean my system of the toxic overload.

It's been said that when breaking the fast, you ought to spend as many days breaking the fast as you were on the fast. This means at least 21 days of eating raw food. When I pieced all this together, I decided I ought to try to change my entire lifestyle with the hopes of shedding the extra weight but most importantly, to enable my body to heal itself of the Psoriasis.

No doubt, I'm a little terrified and think I will need a lot of support and hope to find that here.

Hi- Welcome to the wonderful world of eating Raw! Have you got your hands on Alissa's book? It's a wonderfully comprehensive book and a great introduction to this important topic. You'll definitely get relief from health problems in general with the raw vegan diet. It's challenging to change eating habits, but stick it out.....it's incredibly rewarding. Congratulations on so many days of juice fasting. I made it 24 days last spring and it was incredibly rewarding.
See you around!:)

I agree - get Alissa's book and check out books on the raw food diet at your local library. The more you know the less scared you will be. This site will offer you lots of support and information.

If there are a few topics around raw food you are worried about, try using the banana at the top of the page to find what you are looking for.

Good luck!!!!

Welcome!! I wish you the best of rawesome health!! Check out Meetup.com I know there is a monthly raw meetup group in the Asheville NC area (I live in the Johson City, TN area - most people go to Asheville for such things).

ALSO - check out the tailgate markets!! Ingles grocery will often have a free paper on the Appalachian tailgate markets by the front doors. It can also be found online.

AND You have a lovely farmer's market there as well as a number of organic grocers:D.

evoo = extra virgin olive oil - if/when I use it, I buy the first pressed, cold pressed. the others just aren't worth the $$.
