I have local getting me my cacao powder - one pound size to start. Now with some thinking it is not the greatest health wise for some reason, wondering what will take it's place when my bag is finished for chocolate covered strawberries or even Alissa's chocolate cake that everyone here bragging about. Sorry no link.
So I suppose I will go with the powder ordered, but thinking ahead, thoughts for replacement then? Thanks.

I like carob just as much. I round the flavor out with cinnamon and vanilla and often mix in just a little cacao.

That's what I do!!! I always add vanilla and cinnamon (and a dash of salt). :)

I completely agree...was just reading someone's post about having bought enough for 10 years and thought...omg! My heart would give out long before then...cacao--yuck. I know people go both ways about David Wolfe, but I enjoyed a talk by another raw foodist in which he stated that "some people will sell anything...including raw foodists...to make money" and I knew who he was talking about. I personally just don't think it could be good for anyone...it's like saying cooked food is good for *some* people. Just my two cents. But yes, raw carob is SOOO good.

Based on my own experiences with raw cacao, I really truly do believe that it can be good for some people. And I'm not trying to sell anything :) . Once you get your bag of cacao, you'll find out for yourself whether it works for you or not. Happy adventures!

Raw cacao is by very far the #1 source of antioxidants (blueberries which are thought to be the #1 source by SAD people have a tiny tiny fraction of what cacao has). Also many studies have shown that raw cacao prevents cancer, heart disease and diabetes, these are all among the leading causes of death, and these are independant studies, not people that sell the stuff. Cacao is one of the best superfoods there is.

Thanks everyone. You can, if you let yourself go, nuts trying to figure out what one says and another says. I'm sticking with you all here. Even finding raw carob powder is hard so have to have another person local get me some when she orders. I have had cacao before in milk and didn't like it, but other night tasted some chocolate covered strawberries that rocked made with it. I don't have the recipe, but maybe I can search our site and see if I can find a recipe. It sure was the best!
Again, thanks all for coming out to share your thoughts on cacao powder.
Just was in the garden. Wow, my tomatoes are finally starting to realize they are supposed to perform and doing that well now. I have some jumbo ones. Not sure what kind as I bought several and didn't have enough sticks to identify so surprise to me and all who eat any of mine. Not in any rush to see them ripen other than munching in garden and then off vine, into box and stored cool spot.

Ever heard about how cooked tomatoes contain far more nutrients than raw ones? Jinjee's theory on this one is although that may be true, they have yet to mention how cooking negatively affects the tomato...like adding carcinogens, etc, to the tomato.
For me I have the same theory about cacao...it may have benefits, but it's also somewhat toxic and doesn't seem worth it.
Just me. Call me crazy. I don't believe in superfoods...our superfoods are growing in the garden...greens and fruits are the real superfoods. The rest is just a bunch of hype, in my mind.
Several raw foodists point out that you wouldn't go eating cacao in it's natural form off of the tree...it needs agave, etc, to make it taste good. Therefore it can't be natural to consume. I firmly believe this. Who knows, though.
