Whew, what a rough morning. Well, I started the day by weighing and taking all my measurements. OK, I knew it wasn't going to be pretty. So, I then get a bright idea to do the Liver Cleanse. OMG! How can that mixture taste so vile. Help! I want this to work, but I could only stomach one sip. Advice from the seasoned peeps please????? What can I add to make it easier on the taste buds. I guess I should have stuck my big toe in first instead of jumping right in, huh? I couldn't help it, I'm so excited for change. What is a good smoothie for a beginner???? Thanks, you all are awesome.

One of my Favorite Green Smoothies (http://readysethealthy.blogspot.com/2008/06/basic-green-smoothie.html).

Sounds like a rough start. Are you already eating all raw food?? Most people find that cleansing enough and don't have to do special vile nasty cleanses! My advice would be to start with green smoothies and just eating raw. And to relax with the scale.

That's just me. I like having my food promote freedom, and it does do that for my stable weight and emotions and makes my life feel more rich... Rather than icky and vile! LOL!

I have to agree with Eva....the raw and living food lifestyle will be plenty cleansing, especially if your just starting out. Get Alissa's book and DVD....watch the DVD first and then dive into her book.

Where can I get her book? I looked at B&N and they didn't have it. Thanks for the advice!!

The liver cleanse concoction is certainly not appealing. However, when doing a liver cleanse you would always prepare your body first and not just jump in one morning. If you're new to raw foods, you'd want to do a few weeks/months of preparation first. The cleanse won't really work for anyone, and can cause serious problem, if you don't prepare yourself and loosen the stones first with malic acid and other steps.

Alissa's book is available on this site and many other websites. Just do a search. You can also search this forum for green smoothie recipes - look in the recipe section. Victoria Boutenko has posted some smoothie recipes on her site.

Thank You! I guess I'm a little over zealous, huh? I ended up having water and a Lara bar for breakfast, so it worked out o.k. Thank you for the help! I have been researching for a long time and finally got brave enough to do it. Thanks again!

Click on the link to the left for Alissa's store.

I haven't tried any cleanse drinks. I have some herbal cleansing capsules.

What type of drink are you doing. I know that some call for a little bit of maple syrup to sweeten it (not raw) or agave.

As far as green smooties, I like frozen mangoes with cucumber and baby spinach. I also do a savory one that resembles gaspacho with cucumbers tomateos and bell pepper and a little bit of garlic and a squeeze of lemon juice. I thin my smoothies with a liltte bit of cold water. I also add some ice if I'm not using frozen fruit.

Great link for smoothie..thanks...

I'm presently not using bananas in GS. Once I have them left over that is the end of finishing up my smoothies if bananas are present. These days for me it's mainly romaine and/or spinach with an apple or two and slice of lemon.......if I had a pear today I would have loved it more, but it does the trick during my GS challenge commitment for 14 days.
