Hi all , just got my new good 4 u dehydrator and getting ready to try out some things in it. My ? is about buckwheat. I got some at the health food store and it looks just like the picture on a website of the "right" kind to get. Anyway- I have soaked them and the soaking water is foamy and slimy. Is it supposed to? I just soaked them overnight. I checked alissa's book but it did not say . thanks! Lisa

Yup...that's it. You have to rinse and rinse and rinse and rinse some more till the water runs clear and is not slick. I soak mine for about 4 hours.seems like plenty to me and softens very nicely in that amount of time.

Buckwheat goes fast...I soak 4 hours then rinse like crazy....let sit for maybe 4 more then rinse again...you just want the tiniest nub protruding or they will be very bitter in my experience......then use...they are a great addition to crackers or to crisp as is...also makes great raw buckwheaties cereal...the best!!! Good luck with your experiments!! *s*

You are so kind glimr to answer all my qqs! So glad I asked or I would have soaked too long! Is the buckwheaties cereal- just the plain soaked grains that are dehydrated? sorry- just could not resist asking 1 more! Lisa

I only soak them for an hour before I start rinsing! They absorb plenty enough water by that time, and the final product seems the most fresh and tasty to me.

I make my buckwheaties with a little agave and cinnamon and ginger or agave, cinnamon and cocoa powder. Blend it all up, spread it out on your teflex sheet in the dehydrator and break it up into chunks later.

thanks so much! I appreciate all the help . I am a bit overwhelmed as I am trying to go raw as I have so much energy when I am eating all raw. Today i had fajitas for lunch at a restaurant- the first raw meal all week and I could not believe how tired and how bad I feel. off to the kitchen to make some yummy dehydrated treats!
