Any feedback on what kind of ice cream maker would be best for the raw vegan diet?
My acupuncturist boyfriend is slowly converting to my way of life ;) and we're ready for the next step in our relationship......an ice cream maker!
Your experience would be appreciated. :)

I bought a cheapo one - a Rival and it works fine. Figure I don't use it all that often, so wanted to save $$$ for other gadgets!

I recently got a cuisinart. I really like it. super easy to assemble and use. they used it at the cafe gratitude dessert class, that's where I first fell in love with it. good luck.

i have found that the best ice cream can made with the champion juicer. it makes the BEST soft serve with raw frozen fruit!

This is the one I have and it's great but mine is black and silver:

I also have a juicer and while it can make "ice cream" from fruits, it's very low calorie, unsweetened sorbet more than anything else. For "real" ice cream, you need a real ice cream machine. This lets you make ice cream packed with protein and fat and flavors like vanilla or chocolate or anything else which is much closer to what real ice cream is.
I normally blend nuts and water to make a cream, and add any flavors and sweeteners I want.

Since I never have tried to make raw ice cream, I didn't even know, you guys used ice cream makers for this! The banana in the recipes always turned me off, but now I might want to try.

I just got the Champion juicer, but have yet to use it. How can a juicer make ice-cream?

To make ice cream with a juicer you use the blank plate instead of the screen for making juices. Then you put frozen fruit (usually banana mixes) through as you would for juicing. I have added nuts too.

third on that. We have had ours for years- I bought with a 50 dollar gift card at Macys ages ago. You freeze the interior part, pop it in and pour your filling in, stick the top and and turn it on=)
I make ice cream at home every few weeks. It seriously is the bomb, and sad ice cream is by far the last junk food on my craving list, since the raw version is honestly so much yummier. My fave is chocolate with a choc swirl:D

I use my food processor. Make your ice cream...freeze it in ice cube trays (or one big chunk that you can cut into cubes)..then process it until creamy. You will need to scrape the sides and start and stop it to work it around.
For a basic ice cream:
Soaked Cashews Or Baby Thai Coconuts (Water & Meat)
Water
Dash of Sea Salt
Honey or Agave or Dates
Flavor of choice (Strawberries, Carob or Cacao, Peaches, Vanilla bean, etc)

I have the Cuisinart ICE-30BC and absolutely LOVE it! See photo below. Easy to use and even easier to clean.

Got the Cuisinart ICE-20 (1.5 quarts).
Made my first batch today from the book "Vice Cream"...hmmmmm I think I may have to adjust the recipe for the choc ice 'cream'.. Apparently too much water, since it didn't thicken up. What should the texture be like before putting it into the ice cream maker? Like heavy cream? Thicker than heavy cream?

I have the Cuisinart ICE-30BC and it is fabulous! I'm the envy of my friends, who beg me for some raw scream instead of their usual store-bought junk! Seriously, it's better than any ice cream I've tasted!
And I bought mine in Canada, so had to pay more than you can get it for.
One tip, though. I found I had to almost freeze the ice cream mix--that is, get it as cold as possible without freezing--before I put it in the machine, to get the perfect texture. Otherwise, I found it came out runny.
I'd say go with the more expensive one because it looks really good, and will last you a lifetime. And it'll encourage you to make more ice cream!!! Mmm! :)

Thanks for the tip of almost-freezing the mix before putting it into the ice cream mater. I am still learning, though, the choc ice cream I made got firmer in the freezer after a few days. SO GOOD!
