The Green Smoothie was invented by an Adventist Medical Doctor named Kirshner in the 1920s.

He used a combination of wild picked greens (malva, fillaree, lambs quarter, etc) that grow freely in southern California along with some pineapple juice, seeds and dates. He used it to cure serious diseases like TB, cancer, heart disease etc. He provided his Green Drink freely as a service to humanity.

the old raw foodists had day jobs to support themselves and taught and shared raw wisdom freely.

Raw is now indeed a business, not a calling. Its interesting to me that everything involving raw foods, raw nutrition, raw education, raw conventions, raw socializing always starts and ends on the transaction of money. I suppose only the well heeled should know about raw or have access to it.

I grew up around raw foodists from the old school. One old rawfooder who taught me was a student of Arnold Ehret. He was a brilliant man and would never stoop to squeeze a dime out of his raw knowledge.

As far as the high fat raw vs no fat raw, here is the scoop. A long term rawist will go thru phases of eating. Sometimes they will gravitate to raw fat foods, other times not.

Stay away from raw fat for years and watch your face and body grow lined, dry, haggardly before your time. Watch your muscles sag, your sex life go whither, and general early senility before your time.

Eat too much raw fat and clog your liver, overwork your gall bladder, congest your system.

Balance is the word.

Very interesting post. I would like to hear more about that.

Except for the money part. If Alissa wasn’t making money you wouldn’t be writing on this board.

hehe good point.
the difference tho is Allisa is not one of the gurus that people pay tons of money to see and buy huge amounts of stuff from...at least I do not get that feeling...shes more like a helper person who just makes enough cash to be able to sustain herself- ya gotta have a job! I have heard about some of what she has done and I am sure alot of it was out of love, not personal gain.

I get uneasy about some of the raw folks that seem so..sensationalized, like rock stars. Allisa seems so down to earth, which is why I love her forum. It seems to attract the best peeps=)

There is a ton of free information on the Web.

ok, I’m glad you weren’t referring to her as it is her board! :p

But it’s so funny you say that because people probably pay more money to see her ($2275.00 for one of her certification classes that get filled months ahead of time) then most people. She also had a 30 day retreat last summer that cost 10,000.00 and it was filled!

She is probably one of the wealthiest raw fooders around. I know she has restaurants, or at least one now and another in the making and I heard her on the radio when she was doing a show with Revvell talking about building success. She mentioned how she buys properties and owns a lot of stuff like that, all from what she has created from the raw food work she has done. I also know that she gives a lot to people who can’t afford stuff. A friend of a friend of mine knows her and has told me about some of the things she has done for people, like giving them a free 5 day class, sending people free products, even sending people money when she finds out they are sick and need it. I think Alissa is a really loving person who makes a lot of money from the raw food stuff she does. I’m so happy that she is making a lot of money from this as it is enabling her to help other people who need it who don’t have money.

Peace,
Sara

Hey nothing wrong with people making money off of raw... after all, they have to buy food and clothing just like the rest of us. It's OUR job to research and learn... from a variety of sources not just one or two people.

I don't care if you make money selling burgers or make money selling tomatoes... you still gotta feed your family.

lol I hope yall are not thinking I am saying no one should make money- hell I am trying to perfect a raw food product myself :D

I prolly should have left that part out and just left in the fat thing. That, and the part about green smoothies, was the interesting stuff to me.

" I think Alissa is a really loving person who makes a lot of money from the raw food stuff she does. I’m so happy that she is making a lot of money from this as it is enabling her to help other people who need it who don’t have money"......YES! that was my point=) I always wanted to win the lotto so I could GVIE give give it away and help people. I think it is cool to make it to help others live a better life.

One of my friends told me not long ago I was now...hip. She was being funny, as she knows thats not my intent, but it is funny, how these things go ...from "hippe".. to "hip". :D the original post seemed like he was just remembering the old days of raw, sort of like remembering what town looked like before it got built up and walmart came, if thats an OK anaolgy.

I don't have a problem with anyone making money by providing a service.

I DO have a problem with people who write books and give seminars and instead of raw food, it's all about THIS one ingrediant, super-food, supplement, whatever, that's absolutely necessary and will change their lives -oh, and you can only get it from me. Eat raw food - but you NEED this. Juice every day - but be sure and ADD this.

You get the feeling that they only teach raw food just so they can then push their own products.

The reason I love Alissa and why I admire her is that, although she offers many many products, supplements, foods - you never see her advertising them, even here on her board. They're there is you want them. But she never pushes them.

A very, truly, classy lady.

I agree with this too!

You can always change your post if you feel to.

The "old raw foodists" didn't have the internet to reach enough people to create income from what they had to share.

Without income, you can't give away money to the poor, books, etc.

I've had people (Loooooong time ago) tell me that I "should" give away my knowledge yet, if I were working as a (fill in the blank)... people wouldn't believe I know ANYthing about my field. My field has been health and healing for 30 years but while I was creating my businesses, I was delivering pizza and newspapers. Oh! She's just the paper girl, what would she know?

As far as product goes, many are selling what has worked for them. You've got choices as to whether to purchase or not... yet, you already know that. Many, such as myself, are doing just fine w/out all the "super" foods. *shrugs* And, in the light of other things going on in this world, how big a deal is this?

Injoy,

Revvell

Well that’s a weird thing to say, I mean, in light of what’s going on in the world, how big a deal is most of what is written here?

Back to the topic though. I think that whether a person is making money at what they do or not is not the issue, It’s about the intention of the person.

Alissa is the real deal. I have taken her 5 day class and spent a lot of time with her. She is one of the most genuine people I have ever met. Very down to earth and extremely feeling and caring while also being very light hearted and always smiling (unless she's crying while someone is telling their story!) it was a true gift being with her.

AYe I would love to spend a week with ALissa- if I had to pick a raw fooder to hang with , it would be her, for all the above points made.

Revell I have to tell ya:D I was answering some silly survey thingy one of my friends sent me on Myspace, and it asked which of my MYspace friends would make the best doctor- I said you!:D

anyway the idea of the original post was not to raise any neck hairs- as I said, I too am working on a food product line myself- I would love to sell people something that is healthy. I just thought it was interesting, is all=)

Doctor? Meeeee????? NOooooooo!!!!! Yikes! Thank you for the thought though. If I were a doctor I'd lose my license and be put in jail for telling people they need to change their food program, get out and move, stop smoking and drinking ~ and give them a nut cheese plate for their whining. :D

alissa is a 'rock star' to some
david wolfe is a rock star to others.
or natalie rose or douglas grahame
ect, ect

who cares who and what different people connect with. the only important thing is that this is a rapidly growing communtiy, literally healing and saving lives....and the environment.

i love super foods, i love the energy of david wolfe. does that matter? no.
the only thing that matters is that i am able to stay raw and be healthier than i've ever been and THAT is what gets others interested and asking questions and started on their own journey.
