Hello everyone,
I need some feed back. I've been 75 to 90 percent raw for roughly 4 months. I can tell that I've lost inches becaue of the way my clothes fit... but the scales aren't changing that much. I don't weigh often, but when I do I basically see the same thing. I mainly have 3 smoothies a day. I've been craving salt lately... So when the urge hits I'll have a small bag of Lay's potatoe chips :( I have supplements in my morning soothie. I use flax seed, wheat grass, barley, an chia. Those are my staples. I've also started back exercising. I walk about 30 to 40 min 3 to 6 days a week. Does anyone have any advice on what I can do to start droppin pounds? PLEASE HELP?!?!?!?!?!?!?!!?

Either juice or water fasting will be of great assistance in weight loss.
I've lost 32 pounds in 30 days on a juice fast. Then I lost 20.9 pounds in 9 days on water.

My suggestion is to stick to green smoothies without the seeds, etc. If you crave salt, how about making a savory smoothie. I love the ones with tomatoes, celery (which is quite salty), cucumber, greens, etc. I also put in a jalapeno or serrano pepper and then add braggs liquid aminos or some celtic sea salt, along with other spices, ACV, maybe a dash of oil. It's like a bloody mary without the blood...:D

Even a small bag of potato chips could be hindering your weight loss. They're addictive, I know, but try to stop.

I feel your pain, I have been 100% for the last 3 days and today I just needed something salty!
I too am trying to lose weight and would love some advice on what to eat salty besides nuts and avocados. (full of fat)
Thanks EmmaT for the green smoothie idea. I'm a bit afraid of what it will taste like, but I will give it a whirl! ;)

Sometimes when a body "craves" something it's because that's what it's detoxing from. If you've consumed a good portion of salty foods in the past, the detoxing of your system may be triggering a phantom craving.
Perhaps you might consider adding sea kelp seasonings to juices.
As you get further down your path, you will be able to sense when something is a craving and when your body is actually asking for something. If you suspect it's merely a craving, do whatever you can to focus mind over matter - your thoughts ARE stronger than your physical cravings.

When I plateaued for 3 months at 200 pounds at the end of last year someone suggested I up my fat... I did that and BAM I started releasing weight again. Then I did a short fast (8 days I think???) and then a 20 day Green Smoothie fast with 5 days of water fasting in the middle and I quickly shed a bucket load of fat off my body. :D
A Green Smoothie fast is not only easy to do - cause you are sooooo full but it's suuuuuuuper healthy for ya. I was releasing (if I'm remembering properly) a pound a day and then 2 pounds on my water fast... If you want exact amounts, I'm pretty sure it would be in my blog. ;) (link in my signature)
Oh and those chips... NOT doing you any favours or assisting your weight release in any way whatsoever.

I'm one of those people that even high raw...I'm gaining weight. It takes me bumping it up to 100% for the weight to come off. It's taken me years of trying to balance cooked and raw to discover the only thing that works and it works like magic..for me...is to eat 100%!
So, I encourage you...really try the 30 day challenge and see if that doesn't just kick everything into high gear for you!;) Good luck!

Are you excercising? Even a 30 minute walk can make a difference when you are eating mainly raw. (much more than when eating a sad diet)
I found that when I was eating high raw, if I gave in to my sweet tooth (like your salt cravings) I would not loose weight. If I gave in a few days in a row the weight would start coming back on.
You may want to join the monthly 100% raw challenge. It helps to make me accountable to this diet that I think is the best way to eat.
Good luck!

I am amazed you can have the LAYS Potato Chips and that will not trigger you into eating more SAD food.
I have 'trigger' foods that derail me from eating raw. At this point to stay raw just about any SAD food derails me. Its like a 12 Step program , I just have to abstain. I am a SAD addict!I also love the 'raw', its just a matter of riding out the SAD cravings that come and go.

for the salt craving try Alissa's onion ring recipe-is that what it's called? It tastes like those salty crispy onion things that come out of a can that people put on casseroles

Aleesha--did your green smoothies have any seeds, nut milk, green food, etc. in them? or just fruits & veggies?
Thanks!

I remember what it's like not to be ready to go 100% raw. While I am now 100% most of the time, I personally experience no difference in weight loss or any other aspect in contrast with being 95%.
I don't know where you stand as far as this goes, so you could find a salty raw alternative (I love Glaser Farms Essene Bread and Foods Alive Flax Crackers in Mustard and BBQ..mm..and there are also plenty of things you can make at home..just browse your cookbooks or search welikeitraw or goneraw for a recipe that works for you)
If you don't want to give up your one salty cooked food, can you switch it? Can you do natural baked chips? Baked Sliced potatoes from your oven?
Also, you might want to add a little bit of resistance training or a little bit of more intense cardio a few times a week.

why eat SAD chips when you can make your own in the dehydrator! they are tasty and raw and you dont have to give up any salty flavour.
i have seen recipes for them...i have had them and they're GREAT!

Thanks everyone for your comments. Do you all think that I could cleanse to get rid of the cravings? I've been wanting to try oxypowder... that would be a good reason. Rayofsunshine... Yes I've just started back exercising again. I walk on average of 30 - 40 min 3 to five days a week. I plan to start trying to run (I ordered some shoes today). Zaphirah... Which book of Alissa's contains the recipie for the onion rings? Orangeflame... I will try the baked chips and I can also try the potatoes out of the oven (sweet potatoes, I forgot how good they were. I can use olive oil instead of butter & rae honey or raw agave instead of sugar.) Thanks again to everyone who commented

It's nice to read everyone's sharing in the spirit of helping others here. I took a two day break from exercise and now getting back today to doing my thing. Usually I do take off 1-2 days, but two in a row is rare. Unplanned, happened, and off to get ready for the yoga class, my leg workout, cardio and a treat in the sauna. Top that off with peach and plum tree picking from customers trees. Dehydrator going like crazy. It's fruit "roll ups" right now that is happening but not in the roll up state yet, but more looking like a pancake till I decide to roll up down the road. (peaches + lemon (meyer if you can find one, but only a sliver of a piece added..blend...spread on sheet and let dry).
Raine, way to go girl.
Aleesha, You know I'm always excited to read your posts.
All, keep up the great work! I was looking at a dress I bought 4 years ago, sitting in the closet, wore one time, hanging. Size L and it is super large to my 30+ down body.

FOR ALL OF THOSE WHO ARE CRAVING SALT - TRY RAW PUMPKIN SEEDS! I AM TOTALLY ADDICTED TO SALT AND I WAS CRAVING POTATO CHIPS SO BADLY. THEN A LONG TIME RAW FRIEND RECOMMENDED PUMPKIN SEEDS AS A SUBSTITUTE FOR THE CHIPS. I TRIED THEM AND THEY WORKED FOR ME!:p

This might sound a little silly but when you are craving salt, why not just throw a pinch of sea salt under your tongue and drink a big glass of water? It works for me.

I agree with this - I did this once on my first water fast when I felt like I couldn't stay hydrated and my body was craving salt. Just the smallest pinch under the tongue and I was fine and no longer felt thirsty.

I can attest to this. I have been walking all over the world recently and I looked at my face in the mirror this morning and I have definately defined more muscle and lost more fat on my body without even trying. Just eating 100% raw, juicing a lot and moving my body. I actually feel like I do when I'm fasting.
I agree with the comments about juice fasting and feasting. Both are wonderful ways to release weight and also the bonus is the cell regeneration component. :D
Yup, get rid of the chips and substitute with raw crunchies...like flax crackers etc.
Best wishes!

Celery juice tends to reduce salt cravings. It is chockful of natural sodium that works with your body.

And I've lost................3lbs. :D I got on the scale this morning and I was @ 212lbs. I purchased 11lbs of apples to juice ( I love homemade COLD apple juice). I resisted lots of cravings yesterday. I want to juice/ smootie feast soooo bad... but ..... my willpower is a ? Thanks for everyone's feed back it has been SO helpfull!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Alissa's book says that you will see benefits by just adding more raw food to your diet but that there is a dramatic difference when you even go from high raw to 100%. Maybe you should consider 100%, see if it helps. BTW the sweet potatoes chips sprinkled with sea salt, are great!

i was thinking that i could be possible you are not eating enough especially with all the exercise you are doing. The body may be holding on to weight. maybe try to have more raw food on the days you exercise, salads, smoothies ect.

I love dulse flakes sprinkled on guacamole, tomatoes, salads. Takes care of the salt cravings with extra minerals and some iodine (in case your thyroid is part of the weight issue), too!

How did yours come out? Did you use the spiral cutter to make the chips? I just followed Alissa's recipe: spiral cutter, marinate in nama shoyu for a few min, then put onto the screens. Then I sprinkled tons of nutritional yeast on them (and some cayenne--not in recipe) then dehydrated them until crisp.
I love these, and am going to make more tonight!

I cut mine with a knife. The recipie I found said to drizzle them in olive oil. They were not crispy @ all. They were actually nasty.
ready4raw: It's kinda hard 4 me to fit more eating into my day; especially during the week. I get up between 3- 4:15am to get wy workout in. I have to get to work by 7am. I live 30min away from my job, so I drink a smoothie on my way to work. I usually have another between 9- 10:30am. I go to lunch between 1-2:30pm. I get off @ 4 and head straight to school which is another 20min away. Sometimes I will have a snack on the way their; but not too much. I don't want to have to go to the bathroom during lecture or lab, I may miss something. I'm out by 8;10pm. If I have something I try to make sure it's pretty light on the way home like maybe some fruit. This schedule is only on monday and wensday. Every other tuesday I have a meeting @ one of my sister's from church house and it's @ 7:30pm. Itry to eat before I get there are normally snacks there. The rest of the week eating remains kinda the same. Only if I have something on the way home, I don't want anything else.

It does sound like a tight schedule I think I would just make sure you are getting good quality food in when you do eat and you probably are. the body likes to hold onto food for those lean times when you exercise alot and don't eat much which is annoying when we are trying to lose weight. It takes really figuring out how your body uses fat for energy and what it likes to eat to do that. good luck and take care.
