Mosquitoes don't like me as much when I'm raw :) .

I've heard that they don't like thinner, healthier people because they don't breathe as heavily as unhealthy people do. Not sure why they care about that though...

It is the carbon dioxide in our breath that alerts the mosquitoes to our presence. That's why we always get bitten a lot when we are making out in the woods . . . because we are breathing so hard.

so ugh... people who eat raw foods don't breathe as heavily as SAD eaters? i don't get it. :D

I think it has something to do with raw eaters having less cholesterol and other fatty garbage in their blood. That means our blood can carry more oxygen to every cell. I think they call it the "saturation point", which is much lower in people on SAD.

When I was expecting my second child at end of July that year, the mosquitos were absolutely horrendous. People were going crazy. I didn't get a bite-nary a one! I could work in my garden among the cool green leaves where they lurked, but they didn't get me.
I had her on July 31, was in the hospital for 5 days (they kept us in longer then) and when I came home, I became a new gourmet feast for those things! For the rest of the summer, I was one big mosquito bite.
I could only think that it had to do with the hormones when I was pregnant and then after when I was not.
By the way, I was vegan at the time, but not raw.

it comes down to one thing only...it is "SMELL"

actually mosquitoes often bite the raws....because they smell good....

SAD eaters exude a toxic smell....one that is similar to bug repellant....
so mosquitos stay away from them....

so if you are raw you should actually get bit more...if you smell good...

i think many raws are all into spices condiments and oils which is a yuck smell...

meinleben,
I think it comes down to breathing more than smell. We have a mosquito trap in our backyard that attracts the mosquitos by emitting CO2. I don't use any condiments and I use only small amounts of pure raw oils, and I almost never get bitten.

I have been 100% for 43 days now. I went to a BBQ/bonfire over the weekend, and everyone was complaining of all the mosquitoes. Not me! Not 1 single bug landed on me. :D Has anyone else noticed that?

for some reason where im at , even though weve had sufficient rain this summer , theres been barely any mosquito's this year . and not just a light mosquito season , but actually barely any . where as every year of my life here in michigan come night time in june/july/august theyd be swarming .

maybe on raw my soul is burning so brightly the mosquitos fear getting scortched by me :D

I have been 100% raw for 6 months and have gotten bitten more than ever this summer...mosquitoes, red ants, pretty much everything bites me now. I can't spend more than 5 minutes out in the back yard without coming into the house with at least 10 or so new bites  :(

I've heard often that by adding garlic to the diet that would help repel mosquitos. I'd like to hear feedback from others on this.

I might be going to Tanzania on a shoot and have already been warned that long pants must be tucked into hiking boots and a flea collar wrapped around each ankle will be needed. Also, that things like OFF is considered a marinade by the flying insects over there. But supposedly Avon's Skin So Soft will work as a deterrent.

I was planning on taking garlic pills with me to cover my bases but I would SO appreciate hearing from anyone that's been on a safari, etc., that might share what worked for them.

I figured it out. I don't get bitten because I've gotten into the habit of wearing rose geranium oil. It repels mosquitoes.

I hover right around 100% raw, eat a ridiculous amount of garlic, multiple cloves every single day, and mosquitoes love me. Always have. I was never really a SAD eater, and as long as I can remember, mosquitoes have attacked me with a fervor. I am the person who can't sit around the campfire at all because even though I am covered from head to toe in natural insect repellent and I have those bug away bands around all four of my wrists and ankles, the mosquito attack is simply too much. Meanwhile everyone else is perfectly fine.

I have read all the explanations of why this happens many, many times over, and at the end of the day I am convinced that there is truly something about certain individuals (yeah, the way they smell or something they are giving off) that attracts them, and there's little you can do about it if you are one of those people.
If they like you, they like you.

I got mine at wholefoods, but any store with a good essential oils collection should have it.

I don't know if it's the smell or whatever but mosquitos absolutely LOVE me!! about 2 months ago my mom and my husband and I were sitting outside at a popular sandwich chain restaurant/café place (lol) and after about 15 minutes of itching I asked them "aren't you getting bit by mosquitos?" and of course they weren't.. so we went inside and I showed them all the bites I had! I've always been this way though... raw or not raw...

for some reason mosquitos just love me .. maybe I should look into that rose oil stuff!

Happy Oasis has an answer to this. She says that once she had a sit down with the mosquitos and asked why she was being picked on. What she got back as a response was that she had been unkind to mosquitos in the past- intentionally going out of her way to harm them. So she asked what should she do to be in good graces- she was told to basically love and respect them. And now she doesn't get bitten. In fact when she around a campfire not too long after this conversation, other people mentioned that there appeared to be a bubble around her- a definite area where there were no mosquitos surrounding her- like an aura and everywhere else there were hundreds.
Ya never know;)

B vitamins (such as in the brewer's yeast) also tend to deter mosquitoes.

I use brewer's yeast in the dogs' food for those reasons (for the vitamins, and to deter bugs).

This is just something I felt..my own experience

I used to get bitten by mosquitoes like everyone else but this summer, I noticed that I never get bitten.

I think it's my fasting that's got to do with it. I'm always feeling cold and my body temperature is low. It occured to me that body temperature might be the difference when I got bitten as I was hiking and sweating and breathing hard and all. And then later I was resting and they were all around me but it was weird that they didn't bite this time.

It also explains why my mom never gets bitten too. She's of the frail sort and doctors always point out her low temp in medical checks. And she's not raw.

One thing's for sure, mosquitoes love healthy people!

Also, I remember watching on TV that mosquitoes stay away from tomatoes. They did an experiment where people in their boxers applied various stuff on their body to see which was most effective and the one with tomatoes didn't get a single bite. It's quite funny to imagine doing this for real but hey whatever that works :p

Hmm, I don't think I've gone out of my way to harm mosquitos!
Perhaps I will try to have a talk with them and see what gives. :D

so how does one show a mosquito love and respect? should I not swat at them when the are around me/land on me? :p
