Can anyone suggest a really good brand for me to get. All I have right now is lactobacilus acidophilus (1 billion live organisms) and I'm not even sure if I spelled that right. I saw some organic yogurt that had about 5 different live bacteria in it but I don't want to eat dairy and would rather take a pill.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
Erika

My homeopathic doctor feels the probiotic pearl is the best brand. WF has there own brand of the pearl which I have used too. Stomach acid destroys the active cultures. The pearls are designed to survive the trip through the stomach so they are active in your intestines. This is where they are needed to increase healthy flora. (info from back of box)

Hope that helps. I must started to use the Whole Foods brand because they were cheaper.

i agree with the above post, i've read a bit about probiotics and the pearls seem to make the most sense. theres several different brands, i dont know if the brand matters though.

I like the 15 or 50 billion by Renew Life. I get them for a really good price
($15 for the 15 billion).

I have a bottle of Udo's Choice Adult's Probiotic. It has 8 adult-specific strains, guaranteed 6 to 12 billion viable cells per capsule. I chose it after reading the labels of the many probiotics available at a local hfs. I don't take it regularly, only when I feel like I need it. It's a Canadian product, distributed by Flora, Inc.

Make it! Google for rejuvelac. You can make one with cabbage and you can use grain such kamut, buckweat, etc...

For instance, the cabbage.

Use about 3 cup of water and 6 cup of cut in small piece of cabbage, blend everything. Let it sit at room temperature for about 3 days cover with a clothe.

With 1 cup grain, sprout them (soak overnight, rince the water, then let them sit in the sprouting jar upside down in a dish rack, rinse twice a day gentely until the root is as long as the grain or twice the size) Add about 3 cup of water and let it ferment for 3 days again.

You may extend fermentation longer if your climat isn't warm. The taste is like a limonade, it is sour.

You can add this drink in your smoothies, soup, or just drink like this.

e3live, do sell goo prohobitc, but nothing better then homemade rejuvelac.

Enjoy!

Not to be pessimistic but that I don't know if I could do the homemade one. It sounds like it would make you sick. I'm kind of paranoid about letting stuff ferment. I know that maybe I'm a little strange when it comes to stuff like that but I'm a chicken lol.

QUESTION: What about kombucha? Obviously, it would be expensive to use on a daily basis, unless you made your own brew.

How would the probiotic pearl be better/different?

*Educate me, please* :)

The probiotic pearl is easy to use, just take one a day.

By making rejuvelac you will get your probiotics from a raw source. If you use the banana search on this site for rejuvelac and kombucha, you will get a lot of information and opinions about both. I find a thread search narrows thing down nicely.
