I've been eating plenty of scoops of coconut oil lately in attempt to gain weight. Now I find out that people do this to lose weight! Does anyone know if the meat of a mature coconut has the same effect?

the fat in coconut meat will be the same as in coconut oil. its the medium chain triglycerides that lead you to lose weight bc the body immediately uses them as energy instead of storing them in the body like other fats. if i eat lots of coconut every day i lose weight! if you are trying to gain i would say eat lots of fruit AND lots of the fats found in nuts/seeds and olive oil because those are digested slowly and wont be burned up immediately as fuel.

Hi, I have been on a living food diet for close to three years now, and started gaining too much weight and discovered that I was eating too many fruits, nuts and seeds!

Also, in Victoria Boutenko's, book Green for Life, she talks about people on a living food life style losing a lot of weight due to having a low hydrochloric acid in the stomach for digestion. One of the ways that helps with this is by doing a lot of greens with fruits, and also, in David Wolfe's book, Eating for Beauty, he suggests drinking a shot of lemon juice before or during the consumption of salads.

Hope this helps.

I would love to find the secret raw food that causes weight gain. I'm way too thin since going raw three months ago.

So far, I've learned that increasing calorie intake doesn't help at all - if you're in the initial detox state. I've tried increasing calorie intake to the point I felt stuffed all the time (including fatty raw foods). Had practically zero effect.

I've spent hours researching this. It appears that in the beginning the body wants to detox all the fat cells, before allowing weight gain back to a more normal level. There's not much you can do about it, but wait till it's over - or go back to a partial non raw diet.

I notice myself gaining weight when ever I go through a period of eating a lot of fresh coconut meat. I have to limit myself now and stick to coconut water when I'm craving it.

Thanks for the replies everyone.

A few months ago I was eating alot of nuts and seeds everyday, but i then realized I wasn't really digesting them very well. I switched to eating alot of frruit but I find that if I eat a meal of a lot of fruit, the next time I am hungry I feel very light headed and like eating more fruit again is more urgent and that I might pass out. I still am eating a lot of fruit but trying to find a few non sugar calorie sources.

Brownies--was the fresh coconut meat you ate from a young coconut or brown one/?

Mmmfood - you are consuming a lot of sugar with all that fruit. Have you considered adding stevia to your diet by blending it into some tea? That will help regulate your blood sugar.

cinnamon will also control blood sugar nicely. try making a fruit smoothie with cinnamon, so good. i like apples, bananas and cinnamon mixed together with some flaxseed.
