Has anyone gone through pregnancy completely raw? Or at least mostly raw? If so, did you journal the pregnancy? (I do know of Jinjee's journal.)
Thanks for any info!

Autumn,
I am sooo glad you asked this question, I was just going to search for this exact topic. I am just getting ready to start trying for a baby, and have began my research on everything I can think of. Can't wait to see what everyone has to say!

I discovered raw while I was pregnant & went from overeating the SAD to 100% raw that day! I stayed that way for a month & never felt better in my entire life! I had no more morning sickness & for the first time in forever I had incredible energy! Unfortunately I had to go back to SAD for the rest of the pregnancy but right after she was born I went veg & then vegan a few months later & started trying to be all raw again off & on till now! :D

Ariella has a high raw pregnancy going on right now. You might want to try doing a search, I think she's almost ready to give birth about now.

RVM,
I have a couple questions, please:
Why do you say you had to go back to SAD a month into your pregnancy?

Were you completely SAD (meat, milk) or vegetarian or vegan when you started raw?

Did you go through detox during that first month?

Sharon,
Thanks! I assume you mean she's on this board? I will look for her.

Shazzie was raw for several years before getting pregnant. I believe she stayed almost all raw during her pregnancy. She mentioned something a few months after her baby was born about going back to 100%, I dont know what she added in or why. You can try emailing her for info. In her journal she also talks about another friend who had a baby raw, Karen Knowler, she's written a book about raw foods, but it's not about pregnancy.
Don't know if it will help, but it may be a source.
Best of Luck!!

I discovered raw when I was about 5 months pregnant & the day I discovered it I went 100% & stayed that way for a month. Without getting into alot of personal stuff, I wasn't able to continue it due to lack of finances & not having a place to live for a minute after leaving her father & getting on welfare etc. It was a little rough there for a minute, glad those days are over! I was completely SAD & eating disgusting ammounts of SAD foods. I gained alot of excess weight also. I was working alot right up until I went into labor at work & people would always bring me lots of food! I went vegetarian right after things settled down after she was born. That lasted maybe 3 months at the most before I became totally vegan (except honey). I was reading alot about health & raw & totally planned to do it as soon as possible. Since I was one of those all or nothing type people, I would go raw & stay that way as long as I could & then go back to cooked vegan over & over. It was hard because I would eat the same few things & get borred or I wouldn't be able to afford it one week & go back cooked. Now I would rather starve than eat cooked anymore!
I actually did not go through any sort of detox when I was pregnant & went raw! I just felt teriffic!

Autumn,

The owner of a local raw online support group had a raw pregnancy and her son is now about 6 months old. She's been raw for 5 years now. You can contact her directly at sussmank@aol.com.

Thank you all very much for all the info and suggestions of who to contact and what to read!

RVM,
Thanks for sharing your story. I'm sorry I didn't mean to pry about personal details, I thought it was because of a dietary reason, etc. Anyway, thanks again, I appreciate it. :)

i didnt know much about raw when i was pregnant with my second child, she is 18 months now. but i did have soooo many people question just being a vegetarian and pregnant. everyone has so many preconceived ideas as to what is needed when pregnant. i think a raw diet would be optimum when pregnant, i am sure you would be craving a TON of food...maybe eat a lot more nuts and avocados, but it would be much better than all the dairy and fast food mexican food i consumed! other than just fighting off the extra cravings, which might sidetrack you to the cooked comfort foods, i think being pregnant and raw would be the best way to keep energy up. i know that my second child really took a toll on my body and i blamed being an OLDER mom on it, but really now that i think about it i am sure my diet played a HUGE part in my fatigue, excess weight gain, and overall lack of enthusiasm!!! plus i have struggled to get the 20 pounds off i am still carrying around, i am sure a raw diet would make it easier to lose weight after a baby.

i guess i didnt really answer the question, just made me think about the idea of being raw and pregnant! i wish i had known then what i know now!!

I understand what you mean U.S.R. - even though ,of course ,Ive never been pregnant- but I hear SO many women say "Oh ,Im eating for two" - what they forget is that the "second person" is very ,very tiny :p

Autumn if this helps, all three of my pregnancies were on the SAD. The last one was the hardest, I gained tons of unecessary weight, I stopped paying attention after I hit 220, was in a lot of pain, etc. I couldn't drink dairy and I was waking up every night at 3 am eating bowls of "natural" cereal with soy milk. Talk about an empty filler. I was like a bottomless pit. Even the delivery nurse at first thought I was having twins. My already high cholesterol shot up in the 500's (no kidding). I could not even make the bed without running out of breath, let alone hardly breath normally. To some this is considered 'normal' but I just can't believe that.

I'm convinced that at the very least a pregnancy should be void of any kind of processed, refined foods, at the most all raw. I don't care what the "experts" say, I believe things like dairy and cooked grain products are quite possibly the worst.

Being as raw as possible will not only be healthiest for the mother, but for the child inside.

it seems with all we know now about raw, and why we choose to eat this way, being pregnant would be the absolute WORST time to eat junk food. all those food addictions become so strong while you are pregnant and if we are eating more and more, trying to feel satisfied, i think the processed junk food we usually gravitate to would just keep that cycle going. this makes sense to me, i was constantly eating while pregnant and just passed it off as "normal" eating BECAUSE i was pregnant. i was always feeling starved and i ate so much junk, hours later i would be starving again. obviously i hadnt given my body anything nutritious! if i had been eating lots of fruits and veggies and nuts, i would have been giving MY body the nutrients it needed and THEN i could nourish my baby inside. what a viscious cycle! since i read this thread and really thought about it, now that i see a dozen pregnant ladies a day, i think i am even more motivated to really inform them of this type of lifestyle.

very interesting.

I just ran into her and her son a few weeks ago at a raw restaurant, by the way. He is extraordinarily healthy and alert -- getting close to a year old now, I think -- and is pure evidence of how healthy for mom and baby to embrace a complete living foods lifestyle.

I forgot how to make this into a quote. But ultrasonicraw, ditto! And this next pregnancy(no I'm not trying yet) but in a couple of months when my husband and I try again, I want to bann all junky processed food from my diet. It's banned already but I don't want to allow it back in. It just starts the vicious cycle up again. My poor babies were fed JUNK when they were forming inside of me! I really feel so bad when I think of how I drank dr. pepper and ate taco bell. I would get off the dr. peppers and a few weeks later get right back on. I agree, with ya'll. I would rather starve then eat that way again. Especially while pregnant. Thanks everyone for all the resources.
