Ugggh! I rarely use my dehydrator. I went to use it today and found mouse poop in it. I am so grossed out that I am 'bout ready to throw it out and get a new one.

Can anyone think of anything that's food safe, yet will kill any harmful bacterial/viral critters that may be lurking in my Excalibur?

I'd use chlorine bleach mixed with water. It's a poison, yes, but it will evaporate into the air in the end. And of course I'd rinse well after soaking.

Where I used to live I had quite a few mouse invasions. At first I was tempted to toss things, but I'd have had to throw out my CAR, among many other things!

White vinegar wipedown, followed by Hydrogen Peroxide wipedown.

Vinegar and Hydrogen Peroxide as Disinfectants (http://www.michaelandjudystouffer.com/judy/articles/vinegar.htm)

Sorry that happened to you. If you decide you just can't handle it, and are going to toss it anyway, wipe it down and send it to me. :p

I don't know. I settled on bleach because people were worried about hantavirus at the time.

I had hungry mice that even ate holes in my teflex so now I can't find where I hit those sheets so nothing drips through. I hate killing critters but not mice for sure. I has so many in this country setting, tried all natural stuff and still no help until I went with Decon and now have it all over here in lids from the HFS salad bar. I also have those silent things that go into the wall and they are all over. Regardless not seeing a mouse in at least a year finally. It was getting old cleaning up poop on counters and all over the place.

Thanks for cleaning ideas.

unfortunately the only thing that will kill the bacteria and viruses found in rat feces in chlorine bleach. Mix 10 to 20% bleach solution with water. wipe down the entire inside and trays. When you are wiping it down, let the mixture sit on the plastic for about 1 - 2 minutes, that's all that is needed. Then come back over the area with a clean wet wash cloth to get all of the bleach off and then air dry. You should be good to go after that. I learned about this in microbiology class, fascinating stuff.
