For those of you along the Gulf Coast that post often to this site, please stay in touch via the board. Should Gustav be as powerful as expected, let us know what can be done to help you recover quickly.
God bless.

Gustav, yr not welcomed 'ere. Git da' step!
Go Away Gustav!!
I am located in Biloxi MS and keeping my fingers crossed. We have not yet evacuated but we did shut down the casino I work at tonight. The town I live in was devastated by Katrina and the scars are still fresh for many of people here. The casino I work for was shut down for a whole year after Katrina due to the damage and has only been open now for 2 years. This week was the 3rd anniversary for Katrina and the pictures are still fresh in my mind. I hope I never have to see anything like it again and I wish the same for everyone else. Gustav is looking BAD and the issue again is going to be storm surge. Water is no joke people. If anyone here is in its path and close to the water in any way, please get out. I have seen what the water can do. My 5 yr old was 2 when Katrina hit and yesterday she told me we have to take all her stuffed animals with us this time so they dont drown and get dirty. She still remembers. Be safe everyone!!!
On a positve note I have lots of raw foods ready. Lots of dried nuts, fruits, frozen fruits, frozen meals, lemons, pineapple, oranges, apples, bananas, tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, onions, herbs, flax crackers. There wont be MRE's(ick) here.
My prayers go out to all!!

Apologies if anyone's name here is really Gustav. :D I hope it dies down. But ya'll Louisianians are always welcome in Houston, no matter what the media mainstream media says. We love you.

Thank you for the post. I live in Houston, Texas but my mom lives in Orange, Texas and my dad lives in Beaumont, Texas which are both on the border of Louisiana. My dad evacuated but my mom stayed behind. Hopefully everything will be okay.

Dallas already has the convention center set up and is expecting at least 4k evacuees there and the media has been announcing since yesterday where to donate products/time as they are keeping things more streamlined than the volunteer free for all that happened with Katrina. The military planes have already delivered several hundred special needs patients for the area hospitals.
I hope it does not pick up a lot of steam as it moves through the Gulf. I was in Gulfport MS this time last year and the horrific devastation that still exists all along there and into N'awlins is heartbreaking.

Just a few more hours and we'll know if the N'awlins levees hold. I pray that they do. It was good to see the photos of the city as of late Sunday afternoon showing it to be a ghost town.
I've seen so many buses bringing people in and the past 5 hours I've been listening and watching out my living room window as the medical helicopters land at the hospital a block away. It's like something out of a war movie because they are coming in 2 at a time every 10 minutes, dropping off patients and taking right back off. When the media said we were getting "several hundred" medical patients, they must not have been exaggerating by much.

All is quiet. Eerily quiet. Like we're psychologically readying ourselves to help our neighbors to the east. But you know, there weren't that many poor folk (minorities) left in New Orleans, and thanks be, 'cos I wouldn't want anyone going through all that again.
I want them to build a Jazz district in Houston. We're already getting the nickname of Little New Orleans. Better yet, New-New Orleans.
Other than that, nothing much. Just chillin'.
Im in Biloxi MS and still have power. There is some storm surge and flooding here but the winds are not too bad. Nothing like Katrina, thank God!! Hope all are safe!!!
