Hi everyone, this is my first post!
The longest I've fasted before has been ten days. I'm planning on starting a two-week-long fast on Monday, and I was wondering what kind of weight loss is normal for a water fast of this duration. I'm not fasting for weight loss; I just want to know what I should expect.
Thanks!

Sometimes when I begin a fast... the first week I release very little weight and then it starts coming off anywhere from .2 of a pound a day to 2 pounds a day. Other times the weight release begins sooner.
There is no 'norm'... it all depends on how much you have to release, how much feces you have to let go of (cause honestly the first 6 pounds is feces and that will come back when you begin eating again) and what you are drinking, if you are exercising etc.
Since you will be water fasting you will probably release more rather than less. So perhaps 10-20 pounds over the two weeks???

Without knowing what the starting weight is and your general health, it's hard to give feedback on what to expect weight loss.
Personally, I loose the most weight at the beginning of the water fast - sometimes 3-4 pounds in a day beginning on day 2 which then steadies out at 1-2 pounds per day.
I put on weight due to emotional issues so I'm now getting that back off. My last water fast was 9 days and ended last Saturday (a week ago) and I dropped 20.9 pounds.
I have NOT gained a single pound since then.
I have been juicing fruits/vegs, having salads with olive oil & lime dressing, and every couple days a Larabar. Essentially, I am refeeding and will then fast again.
I have found this works best for me and learned the technique from a British gentleman on the CureZone board. Rather than fasting 30-40 days, he has done 10 days fast / 10 days refeeding and has dropped 90 pounds with no weight regain.
Each body will be different and you just need to find the right fast procedure for you and your goals whether that be health or spiritual reasons.

oh isn't it though. 6 pounds... that is a LOT of feces sitting in our bodies at any given time. can't imagine (sarcastic overtones) why i feel so much lighter while fasting LOL

For the last post, or whoever wants to comment.
speaking about feces in our body. This is my 2nd wk. coming up on this RAW chall.
I've noticed that I have not been going to the bathrm. regularly. A good bowel movement. I can't imagine why, with all the water and fruits & fiber?? I'am puzzled, is it because I'am not eating solid food??
Don't want to sound gross, but wondering if I shld. take some extra supp. fiber.
thks for replying in advanced.

Chippy - I've never had a green smoothie or a GS challenge so I have absolutely no feedback on that.
On juice and water fasts though (especially water), it's not unusual for the body to focus on detoxing by many means other than the bowels. Your lungs actually detox a lot as does the skin. On a fast, it could be a few days before your body does a BM but good heavens what comes out is something you will be so grateful is out of you!
It'll be interesting to see what the GS fans have to say.

I am not a 'fasting expert' though I have fasted many MANY times from over 40+ days to mini fasts as short as perhaps one meal.
I have water fasted and used the MC to fast. In my very humble opinion... it is extremely important to make sure that the toxins that your body is releasing ... is actually RELEASED from the body...
personally for me - if I am not having bm's then I begin to swell up and get headaches along with other symptoms. so -- if I find that I am beginning to show signs of edema or I can feel the toxins backing up into my system, I will take a colonic, cascara sagrada, or enema -- something to help me along.
over time you learn to read your body -- it does speak very clearly as to what it needs, and ... you begin to truly understand how your body functions on a very intimate level. WE are all so very different - and our responses and bodily reactions to fasts will also vary... so --
be patient with yourself...
trust your intution...
and drink LOTS AND LOTS of water!!!
good luck to you!!
