I'm trying to decide what size dehydrator to buy. It'll be only for my uses, hubby says he wouldn't use it.

I want most of my food to be fruit, veggies and greens, but would like to have some things like flax crackers or breads, and maybe some fruit jerky once in a while. Is the nine-tray overkill for someone who only wants to suppliment with dehydrated snack foods? Would the five-tray be enough?

That's a good question.
I just bought a dehydrator that will be primarily for my own use, and I went for the 9 tray. :D
I didn't even think to ask here if that would be overkill. :o

From what you're describing, I think it would be way bigger than what you would need. The 5-tray (or even the much smaller 4-tray) should do fine.

No! 9-tray no question. If you want to make kale chips, you need to pull trays out to make room because of size. Same with certain cookies like Fudgie Wudgies... Unless you want your dehydrator running 24/7 as you come up with new things to make, get the 9-tray and schedule what you want to make at the same time. Now is the best time to get one as so much fruit is plentiful and you can easily dehydrate 9 trays of fruit AND kale chips. Remember the kale chips!

Wow. You must've read my mind. I didn't mention kale chips, but had them at an uncooking demo a couple of weeks ago and I SO want to make them. They're amazing. That was what convinced me to investigate getting a dehydrator.

So, thank you for convincing me!! :-)
