We're coming up on September!
If you're ready to commit to a full month of raw eatin' during September, make your declaration known right here!
Then once September arrives, a brand new 30-Day Challenge will commence!
Please be sure to read the rules for the challenge if you are new to the forum and/or the 30-day raw challenge. Just a quick reminder, the purpose and main goal is to eat ALL RAW for 30 days. Sometimes you may slip, sometimes you may consciously decide to incorporate a little bit of cooked food...all your personal choice BUT...we do NOT discuss cooked food, even slip ups here in the challenge threads. That is best for your journal/blog if you have one.

I am, I am!!! I have been waiting for this. Please note, I generally only post on week days because I don't have internet access at home (yet). I hope this won't be a problem.
I am doing a weekend mini-fast to get ready to get 100% raw. Funny, my body really wants to fast today, just not hungry at all. :D

My birthday's in September, so completing the challenge will be my birthday present to myself. :)

Me, too. I also don't post on weekends. But I enjoyed the August challenge and feel better physically and emotionally coming out than I did going in. I think another month will heal me some more (and I hope to lose some more weight; I only lost 4 lbs in August despite being 100% virtually every day... I nibbled other people's food twice.) Bring it on!

Yep, I'm in :D. I've been about 75-90% raw most days for the past several weeks but I'm ready to commit to 30 days now. I'll be keeping a journal (not through the forum or blog - I find I do better with a notebook journal) and trying to post to the challenge threads daily for support and encouragement. I've been adjusting my menus for the past few days, figuring out raw substitutions for some of the non-raw foods I've been eating. I'm hoping that because I've been pretty high raw for a few weeks that detox will be minimal.
I'm looking forward to it!

Jenifae,
My birthday is in September too! Love the idea of giving myself a gift of raw.
If you want a raw chocolate cake (and a super delicious one too), James Russell, UK's top raw food chef and a super cool guy, just launched his new website and had a free download report with recipes, CHOCK CAKE included. I had a privilege of tasting it in person (during my training with Karen Knowler) and it is DIVINE! Easy to make too.
Good luck with the challenge and happy birthday!

I just saw them today at my local supermarket (not organic, unfortunately). I'm Jewish so I know they are in season around the Rosh Hashanah (Jewish New Year) which is around the end of Sept (lost my Jewish calendar suddenly...)

Hi Everyone,
I've been thinking about this 30 day challenge on and off for a while, so I'm excited that it's finally here. The longest length of time that I have gone raw so far is one week, and I really felt great at the end of the week. I'm ready to do this for 30 days. I have a watermelon ready for tomorrow! Also, it's my birthday month too, so I guess this is starting off a 'new year' for me. :) Good luck to everyone.

Welcome to the September 100% raw food challenge!
If you are not familiar with how these work, you basically just document your (RAW) intake each day (a new thread will be created by me each day), how you're feeling, etc and give and get support.
Per the rules (sticky posting) you are not to post your cooked food slip-ups here in the challenge threads - those are better suited to your journal and if you're really having a time of it and need some help with cooked food issues, please post about in the main Raw and Living Food Discussion forum area...but please, not here...thanks!
So, have fun and have a wonderful day!

This is going to be my first time going a month 100% raw! I'm really excited. The longest I've gone 100% raw was like a week so this is going to be an interesting experiment... I'll be posting here a lot during this time and I'll also be blogging on my website a lot about it :)
I bought a lot of raw pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds and flaxseeds recently so I think I'm covered when it comes to getting sufficient amount of protein/fat and I feel more comfortable going raw now.

I feel like I have failed so many times that I'm a bit scared to try again. But I need to make this commitment. I need to keep going, keep moving forward. This month our church is also fasting for 40 days. The timing is good. I'm in. I am fasting all cooked foods! (Oh and all animal products :D). I know i can do this if I stay present and mindful and not fall back into my old habits.
I am hoping to learn all your tricks for hungry newbies! I need a plan as to not get so starved by 3 o'clock that I find myself in the drive thru!

Good morning,
I'm just getting ready to head to the gym this morning. My plan today is to look through my books and make a few dishes for the next few days. I will probably be making sweet potato chips again - not sure if they will be cheesy or spicy (or maybe I'll make both).
So far today I had a banana, and will most likely have a green smoothie when I get back from the gym.
Hope everyone has a great raw day!

Hi All,
I am really excited to start September's challenge. I have had bouts with a raw diet, and done well, though didn't stick with it for more than a few weeks. This time it's for real. I have already started the morning with fresh fruit and dates and already feel better and lighter.

I can't believe it's September already! This morning I had some nuts and dried fruit.
Later I will have a salad with bib lettuce, tomato, cucumber, red onion and Snowdrop's ranch dressing.
Dinner will (most likely be) mushroom jerky, marinated zukes, and a glass of sesame mylk.
I'm going to male 1/2 gallon of GS and sip on it through out the day too.
(oh yeah-and my dh, who is not a proponent of RAW, *has* agreed to read all labels and challenged himself to NO HFCS for the month! YIPPEE!)

Zaphirah...yea for your dh! HFCS is some seriously nasty poison. Good luck to him!
So far today...large salad with butter lettuce, romaine, chard, beets, radishes, peppers, sprouts and avocado. Yum.
I've really fallen off the smoothie wagon and would like to increase them to every other day. I've found I'm really not a fan of smoothies in general, but I do like the energy GS give me. I've also let myself admit I detest bananas. There, I said it...bad raw foodist that I am :o
I plan to make Alissa's spinach dip today and some other raw goodies. Dh wants to be all raw during the day with cooked food only in the evenings so I want to have some pates, crackers and such for him to take with his salads and fruit.
My goals for the month:
~more smoothies
~experiment with different dehydrator goodies
~yoga 2x per week
~start training for next triathlon w/ swimming 1x per week and 2 long bike rides
~post to this thread daily (I always fade away, but I know the support and accountability will help me make it through the whole month)
Oh, and make a scrumtious raw feast for my 39th birthday on the 10th :p

Mornin'!
Had a big green smoothie - 32 oz
Juiced Apple/ Water
Spirulina
Lots of Collards
1 1/2 Banana
Plan on a salad with black olives for lunch and not sure about dinner yet, still planning - maybe some zucchetti, that's always my fallback for when I'm undecided.
Thinking of making a dessert, I have nuts of all kinds, I'm gonna get to soaking now for a crust of some kind :)
Okay, I'm back:
Got it - I'm feeling like my sweet tooth is about to kick in, so I'm gonna make a blueberry pie (my fave and so simple to make)
Then I'll make some flax chips cause I have a ton of flax seeds on hand.
Finally, I'm gonna marinate some mushrooms, I just love having them on hand.
So that's my day.

Hi all,
It's 11:15 in the morning and I've eaten so far
* 2 peaches
* 2 ears of corn
* bowl of soaked wild rice + soaked sesame seeds with EVOO and fermented green tomatos
* half a canteloupe
I think I'm still kind of hungry! More by 2:30:
* other half the canteloupe
* part of a green smoothie based on peaches and chlorella
* garden salad (from MY garden!!!) kale, tomatos, carrots, borage, celery, oregano
* guacamole cream (salad dressing).
Now I could fight dragons with my garlic breath. But I am not hungry.

Day one of a RAW September, and day one of my juice fast. The first 8 days will be colon detox. So far I had warm water with lemon, my colon stuff in some fresh orange juice, and a huge glass of watermelon juice. Boy that's some delicious stuff! Going out to walk Max, and on the way back I have to buy me some more watermelon. Later today I will make carrot/apple/greens juice etc. I love juice, so it certainly is not a sacrifice to drink my food. This morning I weighed 169 pounds. We'll see how much of that I'll give up in September. :p

Getting a late start on posting, but have had a great raw day!
B--juiced some strawberries, blackberries, peaches, and apples
This was so thick from the peaches and sweet from the berries that I went to WF and bought more! I usually only take the time to juice on the weekend, plus, in case it's too "sugary" for everyday, so I won't be missing out on the fiber. Boy, it makes me feel good, tho! :)
L#1--Shopping with my sister, I wasn't sure if we'd be eating lunch out, so I had a couple big spoonfuls of cashew "chicken" salad, some grape tomatoes, and a flax cracker before I left.
L#2--We decided to eat at WF, so had a medium-sized salad bar salad with red & white cabbage, spinach, various veggies
S--probably a smoothie, cuz I'm not so hungry. I'll feed Mr.Liza some of the "chicken" salad in a wrap with other raw goodies. He's been noshing on not-so-healthy stuff all day.
Big news, for me, anyway. Our WF has finally gotten some prepared raw products. I now must stop complaining about them, I guess....;)

I will be doing the Blessed Herbs one soon...waiting for it to arrive...I know it is a lot of money and I can make psyillium/bentonite shakes etc., but for the first time I wanted all the directions etc., after that I'll try to make my own........Good Juicing Vibes to you this week! Good afternoon!
I am very excited to start this challange. I prepared myself by starting with a 2 1/2 day juice fast over the weekend plus a colonic, I feel so clean now!
B. This morning I had some honey dew melon for breakfast.
L. I made a green smothie (watermelon, honey dew and spinach) which lasted me until late this afternoon.
D. I had some chili which I made yesterday, (the eggplant and mushroom one from the recipes threads a couple of weeks ago). Yum!
I will probably make a fruit sorbet later if I want a snack or snack on the melon.
I have so much energy I can't believe it!!!:D

Afternoon: romaine and red pepper salad with guacomole dressing
Mid-Afternoon: other half a quart of the green smoothie

Haven't been too hungry today, maybe because I slept in late and slept past my hunger pangs.
I've eaten some clementine oranges, a couple bananas, an apple and I've drank a lot of water so far. So not much food, but I'm sure I'll be hungry later on.
Anyone else love clementines as much as me?

Hi eveyone!
This is my first time doing a 30 day challenge and posting on rawfoodtalk. I look forward to giving and gaining support in the coming days. I have major food issues and my health is starting to tank at the ripe old age of 34. Sometimes I wonder how much I have to hurt before embracing raw food. I usually wonder this right after not eating raw. I have all the head knowledge and God knows how many books. I just need to start walking this path one step at a time.
Today I ate banana/peach smoothie and broccoli salad.
Thanks for reading!

-corn salad-asparagus, corn, red bell pepper, olive oil, lemon
-carrot cake
-pineapple
-kale chips
-salad w/ guacamole & salsa

Did you read my thread about my husband??? I am still in awed shock. He seriously had the most terrible SAD diet ever. All meat, dairy, wheat and sugar with the occasional broccoli or lettuce and tomato on a taco--not kidding. And, he called me tonight to tell me he wants to go raw!! Oh, how the Universe is such a magical place=) In fact, wait am I lying? *pinch pinch* Good thing raw has strengthened my body or I might be dead of a heart attack right now!=)

Im still in, this (September) will be my 3rd month 100% RAW!! (if completed!), I have been entering the challenges at the beginning of every month with the hopes to do a lot of posting and it NEVER works out that way. I have seen a trend where I do well keeping up with posting in the beginning of the month then slack towards the end! Something always happens!, Vacation in July, Death in the family and school starting in August! ...
Im hoping to do a better job here this time! Going shopping today!, havent eatin anything yet, but I do see a banana being eatin within the next hour!
Im going to this great veggie market with my grandmother today, the last time I went there I walk out with 5 HUGE shopping bags FULL of great stuff for only $35!
IT will be fun! and a lot better compared to the $150 I spent on produce on thursday at our local health food store! EEEKKK... I like to keep track of what im spending on produce, so I put it up on the convayer belt first to see what the # is then I let my boyfriends SAD food come by! ...
This weeks total...
$150 produce
$38.95 SAD! :D LOL
So today, probably:
Banana
Some sort of salad, My grandmother knows that there is a salad full of great stuff that I love at the cheesecake factory, so she usually suggests going there!
For dinner ill probably make a nice tomato salad!
OH - this month is also going to be new for me because everyone in my household knows im RAW. Let me explain! My boyfriend and I live with my parents, my brother and my sister. My boyfriend and I keep to ourselves when were at home, our living space is far away from everyone else and we also have a different refrigerator. My mom has looked in it and has seen all of the veggies, but she never says anything because I always liked an abundance of them!
Anyway, I did not tell anyone at home because I didn't think that they would understand, and I did not want that extra stress on me in the beginning. I knew if they nagged me or made fun of me in any way it would make it too hard!. WELL, 2 days ago my sister asked me how I stay as skinny as I am. She has lost about 30lbs SAD, and is looking to lose more. So I began to tell her that I was RAW, did not know how to go into it in full detail so I basically brang Alissa's book to her room and said "READ" and SHE IS! and shes going to try, gradually!, shes 18, just started college and doesnt work. Apparently, my mom somehow knows now, which is fine, and my mom agreed to help her get as many of the foods she can for the week! HOW COOL!!!!!!!!!! nobody thinks im weird!!!
Im moving into a new house next month, my boyfriend and I just bought it and its being fixed up a little! My mom is making jokes that she will have to bring her own food over when she comes! Which I think is great!
Sorry, I wrote a book!!!
HAVE A GREAT DAY EVERYONE!!!!!!!

Thick - I just read your post about your hubby giving RAW a try! How totally exciting!
Maggiebaby - we had the conversation about "head knowledge" yesterday! It is so true. It just stays knowledge until we start walking the walk - like so many things in our life ... mmm, now that I think about it, like everything in our lives.
srsarri - Congrats on the family knowing you are RAW! It must be so liberating. Also, congrats on the new house.
Shine72 - I visited your blog yesterday and I just wanted you to know it was a blessing to me and I LOVED your blog about "NORMAL", it gave me renewed perspective.
OK, today ... I didn't want to get out of bed after the long weekend, it's back to school for us and I need to get on it or we will never get anything done today. I'm not feeling great today, very sore and I don't know why.
Food for today looks like:
GS (#2)
Almond milk
Wilted spinach salad
Almond milk
Banana
Large Salad
RP's Brownies (if I can get them made)

I just wanted to say good morning to everyone and let you know that I am hoping the best for you all. I am enjoying a green smoothie as I write. Mornin' All,
I made my blueberry pie yesterday and it was a great breakfast!
So all ready I've had a small bowl of nuts and berries (I crush walnuts, almonds in my hands and add blueberries and strawberries) and have that with agave and almond milk - it's my version of cereal.
Had 2 apples
Had a small slice of blueberry pie.
Will definitely have more pie later and a green smoothie. I'm going to the farmers market this afternoon so I'm sure I'll have to add to my post later on what I'm having for dinner.
Hope you all have a great day!

Well, day 1 down. :) I've been drinking green smoothies for about a month (love them to death, and can definitely feel the dif when I don't have one), but today tried adding strawberries. Not sure how I feel about the seeds!
My roommate isn't big on the raw, but she's dieting, so eating healthy is a little easier. My mom is all for it, says she wishes she had the dedication. Maybe by eating raw, showing her how easy and tasty it can be, she'll give it a try?
Hope everyone is enjoying their week back at work!
I am super glad to be back online! I went to visit my sister over the long weekend in her new house and her internet is not set up yet so this is my first time on here since Thursday.
I did pretty well considering I was traveling and taking care of two toddlers for the entire length of my stay. I managed to stay 95% raw the whole time (I even got my little niece and nephew hooked on green smoothies, and they do NOT like veggies!) and am back totally raw for September.
Thank you for everyone who responded to my questions about food amounts and hot tea; it cleared up a lot of unknowns for me.

Day 33 for me...
I didn't post all weekend, but caught up on all the posts this am. Glad to see so many of you back this month. I feel like we're getting to be buddies!
I'm doing a colon cleanse this month, too. Para something - I will have to go home and read the label because I forgot. I think I've tried it before with little success but I was still eating a lot of bread then (which was the hardest thing for me to give up and which I think I'm allergic to.) So I'm hoping this time, raw, will work better.
Ate too much this weekend, although raw. Picked blackberries and made a scrumptius pie. Also made spring rolls, some with rice paper for my daughter and some with cabbage for me. Hers rolled up beautifully. Mine looked bad. Next time I will try lettuce leaves.
The filling: raw peanut sauce w/ agave, coconut vinegar, cayenne, ginger, garlic - spread across the wrap
sprouts - this time I used pea, but I usually use mung bean
carrot and red bell pepper strips
kelp noodles
Mmmmmm.... brought some of those and the blackberry pie with me to work today. Also brought a salad and some pumpkin seeds and some carrot sticks.
This am I woke up with completely clear eyes and head - unheard of for me. I used to have cloudy mucusy eyes for 45 minutes, and all I could do was sneeze and cough and suck down coffee. At 50% raw I got the misery down to about 20 minutes. During the August challenge it shrank to about 5 minutes. And this morning, I felt great! I drank lemon water, exercised a little, then ate breakfast. I plan to go to the gym after work.
I weighed myself and I either gained back most of the 4 pounds I lost or it's just because it's the week before my period.

Had a busy morning and skipped breakfast. Got out of my meeting at 12:38 pm with nothing but water in the belly. Zoomed to the caf and got a big ol' salad from the salad bar. For some reason, I put LOADS of broccoli on it. Really craving it today! Also used spinach, iceberg heart (yellow, sweet--the only part of iceberg I'll eat), red onion, tomato, mushroom slices, red pepper, raisins, sunflower seeds.
Brought a banana for later, maybe with almond butter! If I were a snack, that's what I'd be! :p
I'm going to a new dermatologist today about my rosacea. It's so improved in the moment, it just seems like a precaution now, and not the problem it was when I made the appointment! Another score for raw!
I'm officially down 30 lbs since June. I noticed today in my meeting that I can easily cross my legs, either way, which has not been doable for me unless I twisted sideways in my chair a bit. Today, I was just sitting up straight with my legs crossed like regular girl! Those little rewards....:)

Started my day off with #2 banana's with peanut butter.
Went to the farmers market today. Picked up just a few misc. items that I needed to get by.
Made a fresh salad with cucumber, purple onion, dill, apple cider vinegar, agave, olive oil, salt & pepper.
Also, fresh salsa. I have enough for a couple of days.
Trying new recipe. Onion flax and sunflower seed bread. It's taking forever to dry. I think it's time to invest in the excalibur. Bought inexpensive dehydrator when first starting out. Wanted to make sure I would really use it before investing.

Yesterday I started the day with a green smoothie - yum! Then I kind of alternated between fruit & green salad with tons of local organic farm veggies in it. Then in the evening I was all about nuts!
I felt pretty tired & draggy most of the day - from caffeine withdrawal and a bit of detox I think. But, by the end of the day I was definately feeling the lightness of eating RAW all day - in my digestion and in my spirit. I think I was also kind of missing the familiar heavier feeling after a cooked meal - hence all the nuts. But I know as time goes on I'll get more & more used to that delightful lightness & love it even more.
Today I started with another GS - yum again! I just now realized that I'm really hungry - so going to the kitchen for some fruit & almond butter for lunch. I'm planning another big fresh green salad for supper.
Bri.
PS I'm learning to make a bigger GS in the morning because my son (17 months old) is drinking more & more of it each day - he LOOOOOVES his GS!

Day two proved that if you fail to plan, you plan to fail. The successful part of my day was a banana/peach smoothie.
Any tips for overcoming the "inner 3 year old" that wants what she wants? Telling myself "no" is about as effective as telling a 3 year old "no". How do you keep the determination before you when you are passing by all your SAD favorites on the road?
Thanks for your help.

Good evening everybody,
Things are going well for me today. I started off with a smoothie with orange, pineapple, papaya, mango and coconut flakes. I sipped on that all morning and then had some watermelon for lunch. I also had 1/2 of a Raw Crunch bar, and tonight I'm feeling like having an apple with almond butter. I am really bad with the vegetables lately - every time I go to eat something it just doesn't taste right to me. I picked up some carrots tonight so will give them a try tomorrow (maybe I'll make some onion dip to go with them).
It's been getting a bit cool here at night and in the early morning so I have been craving something a bit heavier. Tomorrow I am going to make oatmeal with some raw organic oats, blueberries and walnuts. I can't wait! :)
Maggiebaby - I was just looking through my 12 Steps to Raw Foods book by Victoria Boutenko yesterday and she talks about some of the challenges that you are facing. The part that stuck out to me is that she said that it's helpful to take a "grateful" approach. Her example was with pizza - most people would say to themselves how good it smells and then ask themselves why they can't have it when other people can. Instead you can say (I have to quote her because she says this so well), "Wow, pizza. I had a lot of it in my life! More than one could dream of. Now is the time to take care of my health. Yeah, health is my priority now. All these people eating pizzas will be delighted to discover a healthy diet in their time. I am grateful that I am on a healthy diet already." This is on page 178 for anyone who wants to read the rest -- I normally don't like to quote but this one has been so meaningful to me that I really wanted to share it. It it so interesting how you can just shift your mindset so you are in control of a situation, and then you feel so much better! Good luck to you on your journey!
The other thing that has really helped me is to have raw chocolate on hand. If I'm going into a situation where I know it will be difficult for me (movies, dining out), I usually eat a chocolate truffle on my way in. I always feel satisfied after and find it much easier to be around people that aren't raw.

Today, I had a lot on my mind.... My food load was limited, as I tend to eat less when stressed.
However, I had a wonderful strawberry spinach salad and some ginger-based sweet potatoes. I haven't had any water for today, but I am about to make up for that now....

Been doing pretty good. Have a good selection of food for this challenge as I actually got a trip to Whole Foods in this weekend. (I live in the boonies so it's a treat for me!)
I tried some mock mashed potatoes last night made with jicama and mac nuts. It was OK. A little rich and maybe a tad dry. I might try them in a wrap today. It has a lot of flavor so I think it would make a good pate/spread.
Anyway, had some yummy frozen grapes today and have a guac salad for lunch in the fridge... Feeling good today!
Have a good day everyone! :)

Hi!
So far so good and in only a few days I have already noticed a change. For the entire day yesterday I did not have a negative thought about myself. Obviously I have read of the mental changes you can go through changing to a raw diet, but I really did not anticipate such a change so quickly. I hope I feel this great in a month.
Oh, and I have to say fresh pitted dates are like candy to me. Awesome.
Hope everyone has a great day!

GW 135
after nursing is done. Lord only knows when that is, my baby is 9 months, my longest nurses out of five kids was 4 years and the shortest was 9months. Olu my new baby has already surpassed my shortest nurses at 9months and some time. Olu looks like a long term nurser
completion of nursing weight goal is 135. I am the person who drops 20 pounds after I quit nursing. I hold on to weight while I nurse. I am not holding on now. I am releasing. I think being over 40, I soon to be 42 next month, and I had my throid remove. So when I get to 140 pounds I will be good while my breast still rule my body, and after he quits. I would be satisfied at 135. If the 20 pound still drops of as usual, then I will dill with that then. My husband met me at 121. I was 121 until 30. If I see it again great if I do not 135 is great.
I struggles this last few months with emotions and fears. I am doing so well now. I had some stress yesterday. I did not eat and my family helped me not to eat it out. Yeah me

S--tiny handful raw granola
Today B--small fruit bowl: pineapple, raspberries, blackberries, strawberries, blueberries
L--enormous salad bar salad: spinach, iceberg heart, red onion, tomato, broccoli, more broccoli:), carrots, raisins, sunflower seeds
I got it, but haven't tucked into it yet. Wonder if I will finish it!

It's a rainy day here, thanx to Gustav, so dinner could be soup and a wrap. Will post that tomorrow, tho.

Hi All,
I was rushed getting ready for work this morning and packed "simple" food since that was fast: watermelon, mango, tiny honeydew melon from my OWN garden (!!!!!), 3 ears of corn, and a salad. It barely fit into my cooler/backpack but it wasn't enough ... so when I went to help BF pick peaches I was HUNGRY. Had about 4 peaches. Later came home and ate quinoa sprouts with EVOO, a few olives, vinegar, and sea salt. I love the fresh stuff but it doesn't last long before I'm hungry again.
I've been very tempted by SAD food. And I think I've gained a little weight back. :(
Oh well ... onward and upward, yes?

S: 1/2 Active Berry Rawbar
I'm sipping on Tea now. It's 8:30 and I last ate at 7:30 and am really going to WORK at not eating anything else tonight. I'm done stuffing my face constantly. No wonder I'm tired. I'm grateful I havent' packed on a bunch of weight, yet. We'll see what next week brings after this week.
BTW, the Best Coffee Ever actually gives me energy and keeps me full. I actually had to make myself eat lunch. I didn't want to do that but, didn't want to be rude. Tough call. Maybe, I can be stronger in the future.

I did get to eat yesterday, just not very much! It still hurt after not very long of chewing. Ugh. So I would eat a little bit, but not near enough to satisfy me. So I had a shake, and a little bit of bananas with chocolate sauce and walnuts.
For those of you that don't know me, I usually eat WAY more than that! So this is NOT fun for me. But, I'm doing okay. Only problem is that it's easier for cravings to set in when I'm hungry. But if I can't chew raw without it hurting, I'm not even thinking about trying to chew anything else!
I'm going to start the day out with a shake, and see how it goes from there.
Hope ya'll have a GREAT raw day! Chew some extra fruits and veggies for me! ;)

Good morning all! I've got to go to the store again to get more produce, I'm hoping for some good deals. I think I'm going to attempt to make coconut ice cream for tonight ... I'm thinking a whole mature coconut made into coconut milk, add vanilla bean and dates, strain then put it in the ice cream maker ... how bad could it be? Anyway, I'm gonna try it. 09-04-2008, 10:56 AM
Been very busy between work and farm chores lately, caught myself feeling sorry for myself (!) after I fed animals, checked on a hurt goat and while I was cleaning 8 dozen eggs and at least as many plums and pears this morning before I ate my own breakfast... sorry for myself because I didn't have time to go to the gym!!! This is NOT like me at all. I'd be sorry for myself that I wasn't EATING! :D
Last night I spent a lot of time in the barn with the goat. Her name is Lilith Fair and she's a sweet girl. She had a growth on one foot and her nose is runny. She's losing weight because her two very large 5 month old sons insist on nursing and they actually head butt her in the ribs if she won't let them. They chase her, too. So I felt her ribs to make sure she doesn't have any broken ones, cleaned her nose, gave her kelp, probiotics and minerals, feed and watered her in confinement, fixed her feet and kissed her head. The barn's a little dusty and moldy and that bothers my allergies (although I feel good about how I treated her, so my heart's at peace) and I had to take an extra allergy pill so I could sleep. This morning I woke up with goopy eyes again, but they were ok in about 10 minutes.
I am definitely getting healthier. Still look pregnant, but I feel pretty good.
So this morning I ate about 6 small plums. I have four more with me at work. I also brought the last three spring rolls, some carrot sticks, half a red bell pepper and two mushroom burgers with me to work. Currently sipping on some ginger aid tea because my tummy's a little off - probably due to the allergies.

I forgot to mention that I have been taking a daily shot of wheatgrass. I am interested to see how this will make a difference.
I have noticed that I have been craving fruit more than vegetables. I am trying to stay away from nuts...no real reason.
Yesterday, I had the best nectarines, ever!! However, I paid $3 for 3 of them....(now that I think about it, maybe they weren't THAT good).
Today will consist of a wheatgrass shot, bananas, plums, and a mango smoothie. At least that is all that I am craving now...
Have a nice day!!

There's conflict in the air at the office today and I'm craving starchy SAD food like nobody's business. I eat at problems in a near-mindless manner. I suppose it's a good thing I don't have easy access to anything bad for me! :o
I'm about to head into a staff meeting, where I imagine some sparks will fly.
Last night D--Corn soup (el yummo, I must say!)
S#1--2 tsp nut butter eaten out of the spoon
S#2--1/8 c almond milk and raw granola (think I prefer it dry!)
Today B--fruit bowl of white peach, mixed berries (oh I mourn the upcoming unavailability of Jones Orchard peaches; they have been stupendous this summer!)
L--my usual salad bar salad: greens, veggies, a few raisins
S--if I want it, still have bananas in the fridge and almond butter in the drawer

My husband is coming home form out of town today, and has been a non smoker for one week. We have a deal, he will start eating raw if I will give up my 3 cigarettes a day. Yes, I am ashamed to say that I have been smoking. But not anymore..and I'm scared of quitting.
He read me some information online about how smoking effects blood sugar. Somehow (I'll have to reread it) smoking causes your body to release sugar and so not only is a person addicted to the nicotine, but the blood sugar release. So when a person stops smoking, they experience low blood sugar and the resulting grouchiness, hunger and unease that goes along with it. They recommended drinking fruit juice all day the first few days to counter this. So, looks like I'll be making a lot of juice for awhile. I'm scared!
But, I'm telling you guys to announce my intentions and be accountable.
My motivation is detox. Why detox with raw food and still poison myself nightly? It's going to be very hard for me, but it will be an interesting journey of self realization as well. Any tips?
Okay so today's food=
B- handful of walnuts otw out the door
L-not tuna salad that I didn't like very much (ive liked it before /shrug)
S-melon
D- walnut burgers (yes, again=)
S- chocolate dipped strawberries (they are calling me before then but I'm feeling too greedy with them to eat them in front of the kids and have to share--a valid concern since they ate 2# of strawberries last night=)
On a positive note, eating raw will be easy compared to being a nonsmoker.

Petaltothemetal: Take good care of that poor mama goat, sounds like she is needing you right now, how good of you to care for her!
Thick: You can kick the habit! Only 3 a day, thats not too bad to overcome! God bless your husband for going raw if you quit!!
Today has been good, went too long without eating lunch though, and was starved by the time we got home.
B-Banana and coconut water
L-Large salad w/ tomato, cuke, avocado, onion
S-not sure yet!
I have released 7 lbs so far since Monday, alot is water weight Im sure, but my tight pants arent quite as tight as they were! Yay!!

Kind of hard taking a picture of yourself ... :p yet the other picture of myself is 40 lbs heavier so I wanted a new picture ...
I made two recipes last night, a Summer Corn Salad and a Walnut Pate. I'm planning to make a Kale and Avocado salad for dinner tonight.
Today's intake:
1 banana
handful of raw Jungle Peanuts (from Sunfood)
1 large tomato
1 c walnut pate
2 c summer corn salad
blueberry pie filling
1 large nectarine
I don't specifically "measure" my food, I just know how much the container holds that I put it in ...
Also, I just graze throughout the day so I don't have a specific "breakfast, lunch, dinner" plan.
Another woman here at work became a Vegan last year and reversed a lot of her health problems. I've been sharing my raw recipes with her :D

Thick, I am so happy for you that you and your husband can support each other through this! You are lucky! Give him a big smoocheroo.
I've been forgetting to mention I've had a few pieces of kimchee every night with my dinner. It's homemade and raw. And also I've been sipping on some home fermented plum/blackberry juice that I stopped as soon as it started bubbling before it became wine. Another thread reminded me of this. And yesterday I ate a huge handful of pumpkin seeds. I don't think the calorie or truthful posting police will be after me, but... :p

Hey All,
Was too busy to post yesterday and then I forgot and didn't remember until I was nice and comfy in bed... doesn't that always happen, you remember the one thing you needed to do that was niggling in the back of your mind right when you finally settle down into the most comfy position in bed... anyhoo, yesterday was a calm raw day, had my typical green smoothie, this time 40 oz. And had my raw fruit cereal medley with nuts (strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, crushed almonds, walnuts, agave, almond milk), two apples, and then ate the rest of raspberries and strawberries.
Today,
I had a glass of almond milk.
Cran water (juiced cranberries, water, raw cane syrup) - this was yum, gonna make some more after I drink my water allotment for the day.
Zucchetti (my fave - had dinner early)
for dessert (very early this morn I put together another pie, more like a berry tort and it's still dehydrating) The crust is the typical date and almonds, but I added a little coconut butter in it. And the filling is assorted berries I had on hand, some blueberries, raspberries and mostly strawberries and a banana. I want it to dehydrate until the crust is crumbly and the fruit is still moist but concentrated, yummy!
I might have an apple or two, I have so many and granny smiths are my faves.
Over and out!
You know, since I didn't have my green smoothie I'm craving greens... I was thinking I may have a salad or a green smoothie later If I (probably will) get hungry.

Hi Everybody,
The last few days have been a stressful, emotionally draining time at work and haven't had a chance to post. I am really looking forward to my vacation next week!
Petal: I always love reading your posts about your animals. It makes my heart happy how you care for them, and was an uplifting end to a long day for me. :)
Thick: It's so great that you have decided to quit smoking. I don't have any tips but wish you the best!
Today I received the book that I ordered so I could read it on vacation next week. I got "Conscious Eating" by Gabriel Cousens. I watched the Raw for 30 Days movie a few weeks ago with my hubby and thought that this book might be interesting.
Food today seemed light:
- Wheatgrass
- Apple
- handful of golden berries
- 3 chocolate truffles
- 5 walnuts
- 1/2 Raw Crunch bar
Now that I look at it, seems a little fat heavy today. I feel OK though and am sure my body will figure out the right balance soon. :)
Hope everyone has a great night!

Today I ate 100% raw again. I bought some cumin to put in my food since I'm craving some mexican flavor. I had a early class this morning so I ate before I left ( sunflower seeds, a bowl full around a cup of seeds ) and ate raw spaghetti when I got back home. Both of those foods are addicting!!
I went to sleep after my class & got up for another class. I just got back from my class after 9pm so I ate another salad.
So busy lately with 18 credit hours. Hope everyone else is doing good.
I've been doing better although I smelled the pizza on the counter when I got home, made my salad & ate it. I still kind of want that pizza uggh..

3 bananas - bananas are a comfort food for me and I had a trying day today and I almost reached out for cooked food but wondered what that would solve. Anyhoo, comforted myself with bananas.
Made the Enchilada from Alissa's book.
Some raw chocolate candy.
Loads of watermelon juice.
No noticeable changes so far. Just lots of bathroom trips.

You all are doing so well. I"m so proud of all of you :).
Well, I have been 100% raw for awhile but, for whatever reason.........maybe, my binging has something to do with it. I was with hubby and I ate some of his Fries...........why? I felt sick almost immediately. Thank goodness...........just letting me know it's gross. I felt like throwing up but, didn't especially since, I'm a recovering Bulimic. That' wouldnt' have been good.
So my Food Today:
First thing this morning 32 oz of lemon water and 2 Tbls of ACV
B: Bowl of Honeydew melon
S: 4 oz of My BCE (Best Coffee Ever)
L: 6 oz of My BCE & 1/2 cup of pistachios, cashews, & macadamian nuts
S: French Fries w/DH What the heck did I do? I immediately felt sick and thought I was going to through up.......isn't that crazy? I guess that's good though, too. I'm gettin' too clean. But, I had to follow it up with a Soy Hot Chocolate...............geeeeeeeeez! i need HELP! HELP!
S: 2 small apples and a small handful of pumpkin seeds

Hello.
Last night I went to the grocery, bought a couple non-raw things for my daughter (cheese, tortillas) and a bunch of fruit and veggies for me. I figure she can have wraps and enchiladas with my veggies in them. Our garden is loaded with tomatoes and she loves them, so she is eating them raw. She's been turning up her nose at the pears and plums we have a million of, though, which makes me crazy. If I bought them, she might eat them!
I made her a couple non-raw dishes and me a big raw lasagne so we'd have regular food for a couple of days. My b'day is this weekend and I already warned Mom I'd be making a pie (key lime w/ mango, limes and avocado) so she wouldn't bring a dessert with her. We're going to process fruit much of the weekend. I was planning to send her back with raw sauces, but she insists she wants hers cooked. :( Her doctor thinks raw food is dangerous for someone like her (not healthy). He wants her to live in a germ free environment so everything is double pasteurized and cooked. She does eat salads, though, if they don't contain sprouts and carrots have been peeled.
I thought I'd pick pears this am before work but it was still dark and chilly (I leave for work at 7am) so I stayed inside.
My mama goat was up and eating today! :)
I ate pears for breakfast and brought a pear/cinnamon smoothie with me. I also brought my raw lasagne for lunch and it's only 8:15 and I ate it already. Gotta stop doing that.

I'm feeling good today, detox symptoms mostly gone. No headache!!! I had some body aches this a.m., but took a hot bath.
I'm pleased I made it through a difficult day yesterday. I felt rewarded when I went home and had some stuffed mushrooms for dinner (w/the avocado I forgot to bring for lunch).
I'm water fasting for the morning. Will probably have some veggie juice in the afternoon and evening. Will see how it goes.

Good morning=)
I'm going to have a smoothieish day today.
-banana and spinach
-Vaclare
-salsa verde (cilantro, avacado, lime, garlic, salt)
-papaya w/ lime juice
-taco rolls w/ green leaf, avacado, walnut taco meat, tomatoes
I've been rebounding. I never seem to get actually hot sweaty and worked out, though. I need to add something more aerobic. Or maybe just do it a lot longer..? I need to start running again-i like it. It's hard to coordinate running with my kids. I used to take my girls in a double stroller--then they stopped wanting to go (read = screamed their heads off) and for awhile I would let the older one run and the younger one scream. Then it just became too embarassing. I thought I'd go when dh was home and could watch them --and did a few times--but fell out of the habit. I ihad to wait until they were asleep--which after a full day of everything else, more often than not I was to tired or SADed to want to go running. I welcome any advice about this, please. (btw yes we have a Ymca membership and the youngest one screams after 5 minutes--and her screams have literally made me lose a lot of my hearing the last 2-3 years--it's that high pitched) Here's my choices as I see them, please add=)
1. make everyone go with me. Going slow is a good thing and why shouldn't they get exercise and the good habit?
CON= i'd have to corral them like a sheepdog
2. go to the playground. they can play and I can run around them or just play tag and chase and race.
CON- find time for the playground daily
3. run in my backyard
CON- puppy poo, not intellectually stimulating
4. go whenever I have a babysitter--dh or my mom--
CON- too sporatic
5. jump rope at home
BTW, I am a nonsmoker=)

petal--You're doing a great job of feeding your daughter and yourself. Your mom has made her own decision, and I hope it's not too presumptuous for me to say I think it's okay to let it go. You've done what you could; she knows you really care; you can still model the good health you are achieving.
thick--Could you get a treadmill / elliptical / stair stepper for the house? Plus, a pair of really good earplugs! ;)
Last night D--two kinds of slaw: Creamy Coleslaw / Jeremy Safron, and Thai Slaw (http://www.rawfoodtalk.com/blogs/blog-17533/entry-12541/) / Tanya Petrovna (posted the recipe for that one)
Seed cracker
Today B--Fruit bowl: white peach, mixed berries
L--salad bar salad
S--I keep eating almonds instead of my bananas, so I need to get a banana in today!
D--more slaw, seed cracker

srsarri - Have a GREAT trip!
petal - I'm glad mama goat is feeling better. Also, just continue being a good example - it's YOUR part you can do. You can't change your mom's heart.
annavon - I'm glad you're feeling better. Congrats on making it through your difficult day yesterday, that's what it's all about - ONE day at a time!
Thick - First, SUPER CONGRATS on being a NON-smoker! Woohooo! Second, I don't know how old your kiddos are but when mine were about 5, we started walking together. My philosophy is that I need to teach them healthy habits that will carry them through life - walking is perfect. It took us about a month or so to get in a groove. If your kiddos are too little to go for any significant walk, I agree with Emma-Liza, find yourself a used treadmill or bike, etc.
So far today I'm running on about 6 hours of sleep but feeling pretty good, I did my normal grocery shopping today and wasn't even tempted to buy junk! Also, as we were walking through the store they had a taste test of cookies and my kids asked if they could have one, I told them yes but they have sugar in them - NEITHER ONE ATE ONE! I am so proud of them.
Food for today:
GS (#5) Banana/pineapple/grape/mache
Banana
Corn off the cob with a little EVOO and sea salt and fresh ground pepper
Watermelon
Large Salad
Coconut Ice Cream (I didn't get it done yesterday, but I will today!)

Ah, but now I WANT my lunch... and all I have is a pear smoothie, which tastes good but isn't filling... gotta quit eating my lunch so early! I eat too much, something I'm hoping to learn to quit during this challenge.
Thick, I like the playground idea. You can even stiffle your embarrassment and get on the equipment, too! Those round things on poles that kids hold on to while one person pushes with one leg are good exercise. You just have to switch legs. People - including your kids - will think you're an incredible mother.
I have a treadmill. It's handy when you know you won't be interrupted, like early or late in the day when the kids are sleeping. The hard part for me now is that I'll get on it and 15 minutes later I'll remember something I have to do so I never get much of a workout. So I joined a gym because once I'm there, I stay for an hour. But when I was home more I used it a lot more. It's big and heavy and scratches up the floor but it has been good enough to me that it was one of the very few things I brought with me when I moved across country. The "free ad" paper always has fancy treadmills for about a third of their original price, too.
Emma-Liza and Miahtay, thanks for the pat on the back! I dish out advice for other people all the time about their sick family members eating junk, that all they can do is hint, smile and wait but sometimes I get mighty discouraged, myself.
Miahtay, your girls walked right past the cookies? Awesome!

Wow! I have so much energy today! It's only day 5 and I feel RAWesome!
I can also tell that my thyroid has healed itself a bit more. I am absolutely amazed at how living RAW is alowing my body to heal my thyroid! I used to be on 350mcg of synthetic thyroid hormone. Now I'm on 200mcg and I know it's too much (will call my Doc Monday to reduce my prescription).
Thick - I say there's nothing wrong with bribery! Make an agreement with your little ones - what do they need to receive in return for being willing to ride in the stroller for 30 minutes (or however long you want) with quiet voices only?

Hi Everybody,
I'm still here - I had a little bit of a slip (which I convinced myself was an experiment) and realized that my body doesn't react well when I have cooked food now. I get a major headache from it after being 100% raw last month. So that's a good thing! Won't be doing that anytime soon!
Starfire: I am heading to Florida next Tuesday. I am meeting my aunt and uncle there (who live in your neck of the woods on the Big Island) as my uncle is getting laser spine surgery. So I will be helping out for the first three days, and then I'm meeting my hubby in Orlando so we can spend a long weekend at the theme parks! :) My aunt and uncle don't know what they are in for because I am planning to bring my Vitamix with me, so we'll see if they are brave enough to try a smoothie! :)
Hope you all have a great night!

Hello all.
I ate sunflower seeds this morning again about a bowl full. They are so addicting and yummy. Well, this morning after I ate them I felt so sleepy so I did lay down for a little bit and my stomach started hurting so bad. I think I need to avoid eating so many of them. They're SO good it's kind of hard not to eat them all.
Well, I ate some tomatoes/cucumbers with ACV when I felt better and some strawberries.
Hope everyone had a better day than I did. It's rainy here because of the storm that's coming this weekend. Hoping it's not going to do much damage this way. I'll be in the house most of the weekend doing school work.
I weigh 145lbs now. I'm still losing weight & I am hoping I am eating enough. I'm going to make some more smoothies, haven't done that in a while. I should have though. With some pineapple/spinach would be great & couple of strawberries.
I bought some cumin yesterday for mexican style foods which I miss on the raw diet. Last night my family ate pizza and tonight it's chili so I'm SO wanting some of it.
I hope I will pass my 1st math class this Wed. I won't worry too much if I don't because my teacher seems to be very good about letting people pass.

But, 5 days 99.9% raw. I sit here and debate if I really want to join, as I have before and tend to forget to check in and then pretty soon I need to check out cause I'm not even really trying to be 100%.
But, I have decided this time is different! Last weeks yeast infection has convinced me to get RAW again!!!! PMS is trying it's best to convince me to be 100% raw again. I've done this before and was so amazed how wonderful I felt (after all the emotional detox).
I'm a stay at home (older) mom with 4 little people whom I homeschool. My husband just enrolled me in a Master Gardener course to get me out of the house a bit. I have grandkids the same age of the kids I now get the privledge of raising (through adoption). I get up with the first rays of sunrise, quickly get dressed and sungaze while doing as many stretches as I can think of with out being too obnoxious (I face the street and get to be viewed by all the neighbors heading to the workworld at that time of the morning). Then I hit the pavement and go for a 30-40 minute walk on a very secluded country road while praying for the grace to get through another day.
Today's food:
B: 2 banannas
L: GS -- nectarine, bananna, parsley, mesquite
Snack: nut/date/carob brownie
S: cauliflower, carrot, 1/2 avacado
Snack: nut/date/carob brownie
So, can I join you??? ;)

Hi=)
I am so grateful to have you guys.=)
Wow, I have been on such a roller coaster today. Quitting smoking is very hard. The way I did it was to tell my husband about all the secret smoking plans I had been making(inventing things we needed from store, need to take kids to grandmas) and told him honestly about where I was hiding cigarettes (or knew where there were some). This really convinced me that I was indeed serious.
I cried a lot today and acted like a big spoiled brat. I pouted in bed with the covers over my head and whined about how everything I like is off limits to me now and all I am supposed to do now is work, work ,work.
Mostly, either I'm going to start smoking again and just never quit (imagine the cancer patient who just keeps on smoking here) or stay quit and never have to deal with today again . I choose quit forever because today was really hard for me--and its over. Tomorrow may be harder--but I refuse to start over. I am like a junkie--if it was heroine or crack or speed I wouldn't allow myself to stay addicted--and believe me theres nothing like fiending for a cigarette to remind you how much cigarettes are a drug.
Anyway, thank you guys for all the special attention about it. I am looking forward now to the real and deep detox that is just ahead for me.
(btw dh is totally not eating raw, sigh, but he is eating some, so thats an improvement--still the nicotine voice ojn my shoulder says, "he's reneging, you can too--its not fair he can eat ___ and you are expected to uphold your end of the deal" but i'm not doing it for him anymore--if I was I would sneak behind his back=)>

Hi All!
Okay so I am having a great week and already my jeans fit differently. I am almost afraid to get on the scale obviously because I am ususally disappointed in the numbers. I think I will wait, besides it is about how I feel and if my fat isn't hanging over the side of my pants, well that is a good sign. I almost chucked my scale accross my driveway a few weeks ago but figured that was just silly. (My neighbors would start to wonder if I had finally lost it...)
Thick, you are doing really well. If you are having trouble, just remember all the things in your life that you have succeeded in doing, especially those that even you doubted were possible. You have already succeeded in your attempt to better your mind, body, and spirit. Believe in yourself, kid.
Have a great day!!

Hey Thick, way to go! I hope you have a better day today.
I'm still in, though I haven't been the very best girl. I'm SOoooo hungry SOooo often ... even though I fill up on good raw stuff and feel full for a while. And it's hard to stay motivated when I haven't lost a gram. Actually I think I've gained a pound or two. I started reading BED (body ecology diet) and I wonder if all the fruit is causing these cravings.
I made a chile recipe last night -- big batch -- and now I'm wondering if it was a mistake to include garlic and onions. I have a growing suspicion that I get headaches/fatigue when I eat either. It's a shame, too, since I like them and they are supposed to be good for us.
Anyways, Thick, if you can go through the day without a cigarette, then surely I can stay raw. By comparison, it's a walk in the park. I'm rooting for you ... and I'll eat raw in solidarity.

(((((THICK)))))) you rawk sistah! You sound just like me, when I had to face my food addiction head on a few years ago. It was TORTURE, but well worth the painful journey. You can do it my friend. Just keep going-just for today-and don't worry about tomorrow. Tell yourself that you won't smoke TODAY or this HOUR and every hour make a commitment to go ONE MORE HOUR, so something like that, if it work for you. :)
Still going strong. No cravings. The whole family had a 100% dinner last night and for the most part, everyone loved it. 2 dissenters on the nacho cheese, but they pushed thru. LOL!
