Hi Everybody,
I'm back from vacation! I had a really difficult time being out of my element, and am happy to get back to a raw food lifestyle! Today I had:
- wheatgrass
- 2 apples
- 2 chocolate truffles
- smoothie with orange, pineapple, papaya, mango, coconut oil, spinach and maca root powder
I bought some butternut squash and am going to try to make soup, probably tomorrow night. I also bought some ginger to put in my soup and smoothies - it's starting to get cold here, especially in the evenings, so I am trying to find things that are more warming.
Hope everyone had a great day! It's great to be back on track!

Another beautiful day here ...
Last night I made spaghetti, pesto sauce, and marinara sauce ... yummmmm! I make a very large bowl of the zucchini noodles so I will be enjoying this for the next few days.
I went to the Asian store to get my basil and I got a huge piece of ginger. Figured I use it in my smoothies ...
Today's food plan:
GS - soaked dried berry mixture (blueberries, cherries, strawberries, cranberries), soaked sunflower seeds, 3 c water, 2 bananas, nub of ginger (peeled), cinnamon, 2 T ground flax, spinach ... it's pretty good!
Cherry tomatoes
Spaghetti with marinara
RAWk on everyone! :D

I am getting ready to have a Banana-Split Chocolate Shake! Last night, I had the yummiest taco-like dinner (at 10pm mind you, but I was HUNGRY!). There was no "meat", just a boat-load of guac/salsa topped with mango salsa in romaine leaves! My son made it for me, so I had to eat it with a fork (did tell him the importance of using more lettuce leaves and less filling next time so I could actually pick it up though).;)
I think I'll probably have some more of those later today! They're just too good not to!:D

Hi there,
Had some parsley and apple juice before my walk. I am now sipping on a green smoothie and will have Alissa's spinach dip and Indian flax crackers for lunch. Maybe some raw ice cream too. I am really hungry today!
Have an easy day staying raw!

Feeling very moody about my food. I don't want a whole lot of it right now (okay, that's good...) , but I want it to be fabulous! and it's just kinda ho-hum (not good...). There's no reason that I can see--the food is fresh, organic as possible, raw, in season-- Weight has been up for several days, "regularity" is off, which makes me grumpy!
Last night D--had some beanless falafels and a salad of red butter lettuce (my first time to try this type--it's great, btw!), tomato, cucumber, scallion, lemon & oil
S--trail mix that contained cocoa nibs. My first experience with them. They're nice, but a little goes a long way!
Today I have a container of strawberries, blueberries, peaches, and grapes for breakfast; a second container of falafel, and a third container with 1/4 cup pecans (my current crave food). I'll get a box of salad greens and whatever veggies strike my fancy at the caf.
This is good food. Why am I looking for excitement/entertainment in what I'm eating? so not a good idea....

Good morning Beautiful!
Yesterday my still SAD Mom brought me a truckload of Sam's produce. It's a good thing I completely cleaned out my fridge from the hurricane or it would still be on the counter. In fact the melons, pineapple, tomatoes, apples, kiwis are. I also have excesive amounts of spinach, romaine, red/oj/yellow peppers, grapes, carrots, etc etc. She bought ridiculous amounts for me, and you know what she bought for herself? Crackers, ranch dip and doritos and diet coke. sigh. Well, I fed her well while she was here and I did beg her to take some of it home with her, but she wouldn't.
I have never had such a produce filled refrigerator. Guess I've got to get eating! Let the last days of summer/fall equinox feast begin!=)>
B-canteloupe ("please?" noupe!)
S- romaine salad w/ olive oil, tomato and garlic
L-bell pepper sandwich w/garlicky walnut butter, red onion, tomato, cucumber and lettuce
S-plum/s
D-celery sticks with warm jalapeno cheese dip (orange bell peppers, garlic, pecans, salt, jalapenos, water) maybe topped with walnut taco meat, or not.
Ok, thats sounds good=)
I'm glad your here with me! Thank you=)

This is good food. Why am I looking for excitement/entertainment in what I'm eating? so not a good idea....
How about splurging on ordering a box of prepared raw food? I've never done this, but I often fantasize about it as a luxurious reward for myself=) http://www.purerawcafe.com/Welcome%20to%20Pure%20To%20Go%20serving%20gourmet% 20living%20cuisine%20nationwide!.htm or http://www.rawvolution.com/
How about subscribing to Maraw's magazine? http://www.purelydelicious.net/ I bought 2 back issues yestrday to see if I want to subscribe. All of her food looks so wonderful, but of course--I'm only reading it for the articles=)>~
Maybe try going somewhere to reset. Going somewhere in nature to eat gives a whole different dimension to raw food eating. Or, you could plan a trip to a raw food restaurant or retreat.
Do something else delicious and exciting for your body like getting a massage or some silk pajamas or _______.

Emma-Liza, I totally understand! That's where I am right now. A bunch of really good food and I'm feeling sorry for myself. It's good to recognize it, though, because recognition is part of the process of healing. Not saying you're as stuck in a mental rut as I am, but in case you are, or others are, here's what I think is going on with me:
I have some mental blocks in my way. I used to be far too thin, a stick with big knees and no boobs and hips. I gained a lot of weight when I was depressed and I think because I look like a woman now (but a pregnant one!!!!) I'm partially afraid to lose the weight. I have mental conversations with myself in which I'd just like to slice that belly off with a big knife. It doesn't help that I had an emergency c-section that left me with a crooked vertical scar and my belly pouches out a lot more on my left side than my right. It looks totally ugly and weird but I think corrective surgery would bee too expensive and a cop-out. I lose a couple pounds during the week and pig out on the weekends like I don't want to be skinny. My husband and my father both died young, my mother, her sisters and grandmother have all had cancer, there's diabetes, kidney and heart disease all over my family. All the women have had hysterectomies but me. My relationship with health is like with my relationships with men - all the women including me had bad relationships and it took me a long time to decide deep down to my core that I deserved better. I think the same thing is in my head about my health. I've been sick my entire life. How do I convice myself I can be well? And slim without being a stick?
My father was - to put it gently - not a loving man, but he appreciated good food. So I learned early to cook for him. I've never been a huggy-kissy type so I show love and concern by cooking for others. I am an AMAZING cook. So I started raw with some crazy elaborate dishes and lost NO WEIGHT. So I'm having to learn to make and eat simpler things and to eat just fruits and veggies sometimes and to convince myself I am not depriving myself. The simpler I eat, the more weight I lose and the quicker I can stop hating my reflection.
There. Now I've laid some unhappy stuff out there.
This morning I ate a Lara bar. I brought some nori/sunflower seed crackers, tomato sauce, spinach sauce, mushrooms, celery, pears and a peach with me to work. I've already eaten the crackers. They were good.

Petal, it is healthy and okay to lay it all out...I do believe that part of healing is moving thru and past all sorts of us and our histories...otherwise, it is too easy to remain stagnant...emotionally, physically. I too loooove to cook and uncook....and love to make a great meal and feed folks. As I've gotten older, Raw for my health has been my focus....and my husband has gotten on board now that he's seen it is not so hard and how much better he feels.....and now we believe that one of our sons has allergies so we are going to continue to shift the whole family to better, cleaner eating....what a journey. But food has so many emotional ties, so we are trying to be very aware of that.......I hope you feel some relief from sharing and can re-focus...
I love the ideas of splurging if you can.....doesn't have to be food related either.......whatever helps you feel grounded and renewed.
I am eager for my Vitamix. I also know that I just don't get enough sea veggies....so I ordered some from Rising Tide Sea Vegetables. I don't think the sea crunchies are Raw, but I bought some sea lettuce and something else that is...
Enjoying melon today...lots more tomatos from the garden....shopping today so have a good stock of spinach again for GS.....Raw tacos later sound about right........

S. Live food granola (from Raw Spirit Fest)
L. Green smoothie (mango, sprouts cucumber and spinach)
S. Tomato

Today I ate A LOT of broccoli. Half the bag, around 8 ozs.. I sort of marinated it with a mixture of EVOO & ACV & garlic and a bit of sea salt.
Strawberries and grapes
Cucumbers with the broccoli. Was yummy.. Got to get me some more sunflower seeds.
I've eaten so many heads of broccoli lately my mouth is raw too.
:)
Glad to know that everyone is doing ok and enjoying their food too.

I'm so blessed to be on THIS particular campus, where raw salads HEAPED with raw toppings are available at EVERY bookstore and School Union corner, or so it seems! I never go without wonderful raw and therefore NEVER have to be tempted to eat SAD, sickly foods!!!
There's a place called.. I don't remember what... *laughs*... that has a salad bar literally BURSTING with raw toppings (and a few almost-raw things like flax seeds) that I visit 1-2x's a week when I am feeling hungry... IT'S AWESOME!!!
AND SO IS RAW FOOD!!!!
I am completely BLAMING raw foods for my recent RAPID recovery from a major bout of cold or flu!!! I was over it in 3-4 days!!! Everyone on campus is struggling literally 2 or more WEEKS now!! :D

petal and thick--thanks for your thoughtful responses. I know I'm feeling emotions that I usually have repressed with food. Daily frustrations and, oh, feelings of inadequacy. All the usual suspects.
Food has tended to be my distraction and comfort. And I feel so foolish for that.

Good morning everyone ... 11 more days to go ... :D
It nice to have a place like this to express our feelings/frustrations and people who have "been there, done that" so you know you're not going this path alone ... thanks Alissa!
A coworker was just in my office (ok cubicle ... lol) talking about tests his wife has had and the problems she is suffering ... diabetes, stomach/bowel issues, gluten intolerant, etc. etc. etc. I asked him, "how desperate is she?" and he said, "pretty" ... so, I just happened to have Alissa's book here with me and we had the following conversation:
Me: "I will loan you this book."
Him: "Well, what is it about?"
Me: "Raw Vegan"
Him: "Oh, we have a niece who is vegan and she won't do that."
End of conversation ... I'm thinking, "OK, then, continue down death row."
I'm still doing very well ... haven't been 100% because of some nuts/seeds that I ate that weren't raw yet I haven't even been tempted by anything non-vegan :)
Food planned for today:
GS - 2 c water, 2 bananas, 1 T ground flax, 1 T coconut oil, nut butter, cinnamon, frozen blueberries, spinach
Spaghetti with pesto
Mixed baby greens salad with cherry tomatoes and marinara sauce
Flax crackers
I also have a nice jar full of soaked, seasoned, dehydrated, almonds in case I need an additional snack ... yummmmmmy!
Have a blessed day!

Girlsmiley - Sometimes their definition of desperate isn't really desperate just yet. But good for you for offering the help and not pushing the issue!:D
I started out my day with two raw chocolate balls and some water! :D I'll be having a banana-split chocolate shake here shortly! :D I'm going to get my hair done today, and my stylist is always asking me about raw, so I'm going to take some chocolate balls in for her and the rest of the crew to try today! I just LOVE sharing raw food with others! It always makes my heart happy!:D

Hi all. I'm still here and eating raw even though I haven't posted much this month.
A while back I realized that all the scrumptious fruit I've been eating (big quantities) has been hyper-charging my appetite. And I started feeling ... uh ... yeasty. So I have been reading the Body Ecology Diet book and making some changes in the direction of that diet while still eating raw. I'm not ready to give up fruit for any prolonged period like the book prescribes, but I have cut back. The BED is big into cultured foods, which I like. The new thing for me is not using much or any salt in them. I make them at home.
Anyway ... last night I made dinner for BF and I. Then I realized that the vegetable "rice" I'd made (spanish rice recipe but using beets/zucchini/carrot/whatever instead of just cauliflower or sweet potato) was going to cause him a problem. The raw beets hurt his tongue. So I put his serving in a saucepan on low heat and cooked it for him. He was happy and I didn't have to make a separate dish.
So yesterday was a kitchen day and I made a big batch of kimchi with almost no salt according to the BED recipe. That's a little scary but I got courage from the first batch of CV that turned out well.
I'm feeling better the last few days and have my fingers crossed that this will continue.

Good morning people :)
Had a little pregnancy scare the other day... not that i wouldn't want to be pregnant, but last time i had toxemia AND preeclampsia , so i need to be as healthy as possible before getting pregnant again. This is where raw comes in!
I've been eating mostly watermelon and snap peas with some almonds when i feel like it, and am happy to report i have had alot of energy, and no nausea! I am very happy about that, now i just need the scale to go down
have a great friday all!
girlsmiley- i think the word vegan scares people.... funny heh? and yeah, i wouldn't consider that desperate!! what's a few veggies and fruit?

Hi=)
I'm still feeling detoxy today. I don't feel sick per se, just achey all over like I got hit by a truck and my body wants me to stay in bed. Going to take it easy and calmly do the things I have to do.
I still have so much produce, its ridiculous.
B- 2 apples
gingerbread tea with honey
L- 2 head romaine salad w/olive oil and salsa
S- black plums
S- pecan butter and celery
D-red bell pepper crust pizza w/ garlicky walnut cheese, tomatoes, red onion, marinara sauce (no mushrooms, basil or olives QQ)
Have you guys seen the video in the pigs/humans thread? Oh it has haunted me so much. I told my dh that I'm not going to be buying any meat or dairy anymore--and that I won't squawk about what he buys (unlikely) or eats or feeds the kids while going out to eat, but I am not going to participate anymore in any way. In fact, I've been brainstorming ways of being an activist.
After all, I am a human and can affect the outcomes much more than any other life form. I have the responsibility--the ability to respond.
Emma-Liza

imani--way to go! I love seeing your success!
saxmaam--that's the way to fix dinner--one dinner for two people. I follow that principle as much as possible and we have had some pretty "creative" meals. ;) I have never thought about just cooking what I am eating--will give that a try!
girlsmiley--isn't it "funny" how un-desperate someone can become when faced with making real changes? Food is so fundamental to our personalities. I really can understand the unwillingness to change. It's something I've been pondering a lot lately!
Yesterday afternoon, I did not have a snack on hand. I got so starving, I was this close to getting crackers from the vending machine. Instead, I wrapped up early and went home and had a raw seed cracker instead.
Last night I made bellamausi's Wilted Spinach and it was divinely delicious! I added sliced cremini mushrooms and feasted away. Ate 1/2 box of spinach, 1/2 large tomato, probably 1 1/2 cups of mushrooms. Warm, garlicky, food! This is going to be a repeat dish, I'm sure. It took about an hour to wilt in the new Good4U dehydrator, so was easy-easy. I also threw in another tray of grape tomatoes that were threatening to go bad, bathed in a little olive oil and sea salt. These were my "dessert."
Today I have a container of strawberries, blueberries, and little grapes for breakfast. Lunch will be the other half of the wilted spinach salad. Snack(s) available are banana and apple. We are supposed to go out to eat tonight to Ruby Tuesday. I think the salad bar will be okay (?)....haven't been to RT in a long, long time.

Saxmaam, I love fermented foods too. They have zing to them and make me feel good when maybe I'm eating something a little rough to digest like cabbage or broccoli (I'm like Deb there. It's embarrassing!) I make ginger brew occasionally, kimchee and fermented green beans a lot and I have a container of plum "wine" fermenting on the counter now. I pull the "wine" early before it gets too alcoholic. (Around the 5 day mark. the more sweetener you give it and the longer you leave it the more alcoholic it gets. Also I rarely use any additional sweetener besides the fruit, although sometimes I use raw honey.) I haven't tried making coconut kefir yet, but want to. I hear it is incredible.
Last night I went to bed and read with a Larabar after chores were done and I'd showered. I wasn't really reading, though, I thinking about all those plums and decided I should try them with carob and chocolate. So I got back up and made two batches of: 2 bananas, 1 peach, a gazillion plums, 2 tbsp of carob, 1 tbsp of cocoa (I ran out of cacao) and a half cup of water in the blender and made fruit leathers with that. I dry leathers for about 8 hours on 105 degrees and cut them up when they're still a little sticky into 1/4s and use them for crepes or wraps. I made another 1/2 blenderfull of the stuff and drank some this morning and brought the rest with me. I also brought: sunflower/nori crackers, celery, a peach and two pears. I still have plums sitting on my desk from two days ago that I was too tired of to eat. I might eat them today. Yesterday I didn't eat my pears or peach that I brought until about 7:00 when I was late tearing into them and was hungry. And they tasted soooooooooo good, even though I was totally bored with them the same morning.

thick--I haven't seen the video and it sounds like (maybe) I shouldn't (?) The final scenes in "Fast Food Nation" have haunted me since I watched that movie. The thing that pushed me over the edge on this issue was the "total package" of exploitation and pain. I have always hurt for the animals, but when I consider my own participation in all the other exploitation/pain (the workers, the consumers, the family farmers/ranchers, the marketing to children) all for to profit a corporation...I feel an almost indescribable combination of anger and shame. It's about time I dealt with it....
Thick

I had been continuing to feed my kids and dh "meat" and dairy--but no more. I know a lot of reasons why it is bad for you. But, although I had *known* about abuse in the farms, I had never actually seen it.
Dh said, well that doesn't happen in every place--just that one sicko--but I got to thinking? What kind of sick person takes a job murdering and abusing animals all day long? I'll tell you what kind--the kind who likes abusing them and does!!
It's a good idea to cut out here and not admit on a public forum how much I'd like to introduce those _______ to their own treatment.

Hi everyone..
Raw again today. Ate strawberries, blueberries, grapes
Cucumber & broccoli salads.. I make the dressing for it out of garlic, EVOO, ACV & it is SO good.
I've been trying to do homework & it's just driving me INSANE. My professors are so particular about the little details and I am taking 18 credit hours. I have NO time for that particular b.s.
I'm going out to get more broccoli tomorrow morning. It's making my mouth water just thinking about it with the dressing I put on it.
I see everyone is still staying raw. That is great y'all.

Hello all,
I know today is day twenty, but I do not want to wait untill October-I have been trying this for awhile and really want to do it this time!! I am sick right now with a cold and if I have been eating the way I am spoose to I bet I would not have this right now.
Anyways, so far I have had juice from my juicer, green drink, strawberries and now eating raw onion soup. I will eat more of course and one the things I will do is a green smoothie. I try to do one of those daily. Also the raw pizza looks amazing!!! I have Alissa's book-I will have to try that at some point.

A friend of mine called to wish me belated birthday. When Mr.Liza strolled thru the room, she said, Can I ask him a computer-related question? Mr.Liza is something of a geek (tho' a very nice and very cute geek!). So, they've been talking now for, oh, 20 minutes already....thought I'd check in with y'all while I wait. :D Happy birthday to me! Whee!
Okay. 'Nuff with that.
Last night D--we went to Jason's deli (thanks, thick!) as we knew we would have a wait at Ruby Tuesday (we'll go there soon, girlsmiley). It was good, tho' I slipped and had something I shouldn't. Grr. (BTW, we noticed signs at Jason's that they don't offer products with high fructose corn syrup or MSG or other additives. I like that....I'm always trying to identify places we can eat with family/friends and this will be one.)
Today B--raw breakfast crust (seed cracker); a groovy juice: pineapple, mango, peach, grapefruit. This cleaned out the fruits that have been here the longest. I've been on a pineapple juice kick lately. I must need something it has.
I made a batch of nut butter, too--tropical nuts! (Insert your favorite joke.) Equal amounts of cashews, brazils, and macadamias, pinch of sea salt. I think this will make a killer milk base for smoothies.

Those pizza pictures look absolutely amazing!!! I'm going to have to make one this week. Living in Chicago, SAD pizza is a biggy to give up. Doesn't look like I need to miss it.
So far today:
GS - spinach, orange, blueberries, and bananas
spinach/avo dip with crackers and carrots
banana/cashew ice cream with carob sauce
handful of flavored sprouted nuts
Going out so will probably have some type of salad tonight.

Hello=)
My son and I just finished The Hobbit (of course I have read the series many times already) and have just started reading The Fellowship of the Ring in which we learned that tomorrow is both Bilbo and Frodo's birthday. It also happens to be the autumnal equinox this year as well. We have a restaurant near us called The Hobbit Hole where all the food is lotr related and there's a lot of lotr art and furniture. I think we'll take a trip into town to go there, then go to a forest nature center to walk and then read aloud in the forest with some "Kram" bread and other yummy hobbity things as yet undecided. Any ideas?
Today=
-blueberry banana smoothie (as requested by 2 yo)
-Bellamausi's spinach& tomatoes that I didnt make yesterday
-huge asian salad w/ pecan "peanut" sauce, cucumber and red bell pepper
-pizza (i hope) w/ bell peppers, red onion, marinara, tomatoes, mushrooms and olives
-lemonade
Speaking of pizza, I got corralled into going with my family to cici's pizza last night--where they no longer have a *(&*%&& salad bar!!!! They pre-make them with a gore of cheese and dressing--I was so mad! The manager said that it was to keep the price of the buffet low & they had to cut food costs (i knew the salad bar was way more of a deal than that gmo crust puss/corpse crap). Anyway, now I never need face that temptation ever again. Jason's deli here we come=)
Enjoy your last day of golden summer=)!

Thick, my daughter's birthday is tomorrow as well! (Or tonight if you want to go by what time it was in the States when she was born;))
Okay ya'll! I just had to share this. Remember I said I wanted grapefruit? Well I did, and I had it. Then, I juiced 2 grapefruits, added 1 capsule full of chlorella powder, and a heaping Tbsp of green powder, 1 packet of Stevia and drank 1/2 of it (son had other 1/2).........

thick--I am not well versed in hobbit-ness, having read it back in high school (i.e., loooong time ago) and find it just astounding that there is a hobbit-themed restaurant. I watched the trilogy and then every single extra on every single cd. My favorite parts of the movies were the horses, viggo mortensen, and sean bean. Sorry, I know that's not even remotely hobbity.
shine--will you please let us know how you make the cake? I love strawberry anything!
Dinner last night was take-out from Swanky's Taco Shop. I got a big bowl of lettuce, guacamole, extra guacamole,;) tomatoes, onions, and corn. At home I added crumbled up jalapeno burgers (from the freezer, thank you modern home science).
S--an experimental cookie/candy thing with oats, almond butter, vanilla and honey. Good enough but not great. Still, I ate several of them (5 or 6 at 1 Tbs each). :(
Today B--rest of the juice from yesterday's juicing. First time I have carried any over to the next day. Huge difference in taste and probably won't do that again! Not with fruit, anyway!
Went to check on my horse and gave him an egregious amount of carrots. Then went to 3 different stores looking for shoes to wear to a wedding next weekend. No joy.
However, I did some early Christmas shopping along the way and found 2 very cute sweaters for myself as well. Not all a wash, after all!
D--salad bar from Whole Foods. I was soo hungry from skipping lunch, and it tasted extra specially good! Dressing was not raw, I'm not sure what was in it, even. Some kind of vinegar & oil with loads of specks (hopefully just herbs). Just used a little.
The thread is so short today, maybe it won't matter than I am droning on and on....

Well, I know it is Monday, not Sunday, yet I wanted to post on the "correct" day
I did not plan well for Saturday and I was out trying on clothes. I needed a purple top to wear while working at our annual Excellence in Ministry Conference that is coming up on September 25th/26th. I know that caused some frustration for me and when I went out to get some groceries I picked up some non-raw stuff and even something non-vegan. It was like I was crazed! I was not happy with myself yet I am back on track :)
Food on Sunday was:
zucchini spaghetti with pesto
lots of water ... trying to cleanse out the junk I ate on Saturday
girlsmiley
09-22-2008, 09:46 AM
OK, so I finished up some non-raw stuff I had purchased on Saturday  and I am ready to RAWk on :D
Yesterday I made RAWvolutions' Famous Onion Bread, Heather's Cheddar Dressing, and Alissa's Broccoli soup. The house smells so good with that Onion Bread "cooking" ... :p
Food for today:
GS - 2 c water, 2 bananas, 1T cacao nibs, 2T ground flax, nut butter, cinnamon, spinach
Broccoli soup
Broccoli with Cheddar Dressing for dip
Honeycrisp apple
I am going to be out of town on Thursday and Friday so I am getting a plan together for food. I purchased food for the week forgetting I was going to be gone so I want to pack it up and bring it with me. I know the hotel has a fridge yet the food will be sitting in the car for several hours. I purchased some bottles of water for the trip so I think I will put them in the freezer the night before and that should help everything stay cool :D

Happy Autumn!
I'm looking ahead to thanksgiving and thinking that unless I have lost some (more)weight all of my thanksgiving *oddities* will be hard to defend come thanksgiving with my families. I am not going to weigh at all, even at my moms house, until the winter solstice=)
As nature pares down and discards , preparing for renewal of spring, so shall I. Instead of imagining fall/winter as a cookie filled, pie making, soup & casserole scarfing time--I'm instead visualing it as
-a time to go out running without sweating from the heat and humidity
-a time to allow myself the luxury of limitless reading
-a time to splurge on hot tea with raw honey
-a time of transformation, allowing natures transformation to lead me through my own beautiful healing and changes
So, today's food--
-Gs-spinach &banana
-Bellamausi Spinach (yum yum!)
-Hobbit Hole-- tropical salad (mixed greens w/ fruit..strawberries, pineapple, grapes, raw almonds, melon etc)--not my old usual--but as far as restaurant salads go--fantastic!
& a large order of guacamole (so good here, just like home-wait why am I paying for it then?--oh yeah the hobbit posters..)
-trail mix, cinnamon apples and Alissa's pizza crust crackers for walk in woods
-pizza! the crust is actually fantastic!--i think the secret in making sprouted breads is not letting the sprouts go much beyond the teeny tail stage--i dislike that green concentrated taste..but this crust is so good
bye=)

girlsmiley--I think you're right to just get back into your raw routine. Eating your "regular" raw diet is cleansing enough and you don't need to do anything too special, IMO. I took a couple of planned breaks this month (2 meals only) and I tried not to do anything drastic the following day(s), mostly to try to avoid the all-or-nothing thinking I am prey to (well, I blew it and so I might as well keep going!). At one meal, I stayed vegan and there were physical repercussions like fatigue and break-outs, but no weight gain. At the other meal, there was a very small amount of dairy and--3 pounds came and stayed for 4 days. I don't plan to try any more "planned" cooked meals at this point. However, they are a learning experience! :o
Last night after my inadvertently skipped lunch and early supper, I got hungry again. Snacked on a handful of nuts, little bit later 1/4 of a seed cracker, and even later, mixed some raw granola with some homemade trail mix. I wanted some almond milk to pour over, but was too busy doing laundry to stop and make it. Just noshed on the mix between loads.
Today I have my typical workday fare--fresh fruit (apples & bananas) for breakfast/snack. Will hit the salad bar for lunch. I've been on a romaine kick for awhile now, so I'm hoping it's that!

Hello everyone! I just caught up on the weekend posts. I am both sad and relieved to see I'm not the only one who ate something I shouldn't have over the weekend. I made my daughter some sourdough bread and determined I was not going to eat a million nuts like I did the last time there was bread in the house so I decided I would be brave and stick it out until the smell had abated. Didn't work.
Now, I'm totally ok with the idea of my tasting with one spoonful a bite of whatever I'm making her for dinner and then adjusting seasonings if needed. But I can't do that with bread. I am a complete gluten junkie, including the hangover afterwards and craving more. I would have been better off with a million nuts.
Once the smell is gone I resist very well, don't want even a nibble of it. I may compromise and buy her the bread instead of make it myself. Then she still has it but I don't have to smell it.
Other than that I was very good. I made some incredible food for myself that filled all kinds of emotional longings I was having and also ate simple salads.
I made Alissa's carrot cake with hazelnuts instead of walnuts, but I left it in the processor longer so it would taste like pumpkin pie. And I put some coconut oil in the frosting. Oh, sooooooooo good. I also made some plum/chocolate crepes (dehydrated leathers) with cinnamon pear filling with a little apple cider vinegar to keep them from going brown and squishy. Then I made a coconut/carob sauce to pour over the top. Ladies, I made ten of these lovely shiny delicacies Sunday and only five were left this am. One is in my lunch box now and I hear it calling my name!
For breakfast: carrot cake and one crepe
brought with me to work:
a raw bar
two small pears
a piece of carrot cake
a small salad
some pineapple chunks

I think that is why I got so off track the first time I was following this lifestyle ... the "all or nothing" mentality.
Sunday monrning I did experience bloating and some aches and pains that had been gone earlier this month. Which is also why I wanted to drink extra water ... at least my weight stayed the same. I'm going to up my exercise so I can see more results next week :D

Hello, I've been really busy lately. Been kind of over loaded with the college classes I'm taking, trying to make deadlines. I've been eating a TON of broccoli lately with a raw dressing I made myself of garlic, EVOO and ACV. Very yummy indeed.
Today didn't eat much but broccoli. I have to get the sunflower seeds I normally get at the hfs near me in a little bit because they didn't have them when I went before during this week. Hope everyone else is doing fine. I'm kind of stressing out about a lot of things.
Stressing over my food as well. I spend a lot of my time although it's good to spend time getting, preparing and eating food I still spend more time doing that than I should. I need to start planning ahead and shop for more so I can be doing more school work that I need to do and other things that need to be taken care of.

Good morning everyone! Sorry I have been absent for the past several days - I had so much company here at the house it was crazy! Sleep took priority over checking in here - sorry :o. Anyway over the last couple days I have been experimenting with what I call a "simple" green smoothie. Basically it's one piece of fruit/a large handful of greens and some water. I was shocked at how good it actually is! I suppose being pressed for time has it's advantages. My green smoothies have always had at least 4 ingredients. I will be going to the store today as my fridg is bare so I will post about food later on today.

thick--wilted spinach IS wickedly good! I wonder if any other green would work as well...maybe arugula. Must try it!
I've just come from a fund-raiser breakfast (a pre-set meal) where I didn't expect to be able to eat anything, but, behold, they had a plate of fresh fruit along with the plate of bread/meat/salt/sugar. It was plenty for my early morning appetite, which is slim. ("Slim," ha!) I just switched the plates out so the fruit was in front of me and I was good to go!
Last night D--made cauliflower rice (finally) with raw black olives, sundried tomatoes, pine nuts, olive oil & greek seasoning, warmed in the dehydrator while I cleaned the kitchen.
It was pretty good, but I think it's one of those dishes I'll eat a couple times and then not make again. I do, however, want to try "ricing" some other veggies. The cauliflower is stinking up my fridge, now that it's cut. I made some rich cheddar sauce last night and will have that with the other half of the cauli-rice tonight.
I snacked on seed cracker pieces from the bottom of the box while I uncooked and after dinner I got into some not-raw nuts. :(
Today B--fruit plate: melon, grapes, pineapple, strawberries

Hello! Last night I left work and got hay. I was hungry so I stopped by the health food store and got a Raw Revolutions bar (chocolate coconut, pretty good) and some sunflower seeds on the way. Then about 8pm I ate two of my plum/pear crepes, two little tomatoes and a celery stalk. My dogs got into the pears and carried some up to my room in their mouths and left pear mush all over the rug. :(
This morning I ate the last carrot cake/pumpkin pie slice and a half a pear.
I brought celery sticks, carrot sticks, tomatoes, a red bell pepper and the last two crepes with me to work. Yesterday I heard the crepes calling my name and they weren't in my lunch box and I was sad!
My mom's coming to visit this weekend and I'm wondering what scrumptious desert I can make her that won't blow the bank. I might make more crepes. Also I need some other savory raw dish and I've been wanting to make cauliflower rice or potatoes but it seems like no one is ever really thrilled with them. I'm off to peruse the recipes section, so see what i can make out of the contents of my cupboards.
thanks for the encouragement (intentional or not :D)

They didn't like my "burgers" or my spaghetti. I think they were both too far from the SAD diet burgers and spaghetti. Too bad, because I could eat the burgers every day!
I've been wanting to make the pizza anyway, so I'll use this as my excuse. Mexican pizza, Thick? Mmmmm.

Hi All! Been a great Raw day.....huge GS: spinach, frozen banana, handful of almonds, cinnamon, coco butter...yummmy....
later: fruit: watermelon and apples....almond butter on a banana.......huge salad with honey mustard dressing, carrot, cuke, hemp seeds, tomatoes...............another apple.....some dried papaya {unsweetened of course}.....big bowl baby carrots.....smoothie: concord grapes, yellow melon, a banana....mmmmmmmm
Everyone's food sounds so good today! Hi Heather! glad to see you are back!:)............hang in there LilBirdie! I have had those days too, and find the important thing for me is to also keep looking at recipes, read posts etc., and get back to it!....Petal....hmmmm, I think I would opt for a cheesecake; easy, rich, filling.....and a huge salad before hand...maybe make several different dressings and make the salad full of veggies, some fresh dill or basil, maybe some dehydrated tomatoes?...how about some crackers....sun dried tomato or onion bread? Alissa's watermelon soup is divine....hmmmmmmmmm
I would stick to things you have made before...my first pizza did not turn out well....
Now I just remembered that I have tomatoes and Heathers Cheese dressing in the dehydrator! I had turned the machine off and forgot {how could I?} about them! I meant to have them in a salad...tomorrow for sure...btw, that dresssing of Heather's...dehydrated...tastes just like cheddar to me, really it does!!! I couldn't stop eating it! Yes! Thick! you'll have to tell us more about the Mexican Pizza!
My Vitamix arrives tomorrow! I am sooo excited...like anticipating a visit from a dear friend or relative! I tracked it...it is in Ohio right now!...Oh I hope it works out and I don't regret getting on EBAY instead of a brand new one....we'll see! 'night 'night and sweet dreams! Deb

Hello.
Really having a hard time with schoolwork & finances are driving me crazy. I've got to defer my older loan for school so that I won't have to make payments til I'm finished. I'm so overwhelmed with the load I have at school. Taking 18 credit hours with a math and science wasn't a good idea.
I've been eating raw. Just a lot of broccoli lately.
Yesterday was tomatoes, broc, cucumber, grapes, strawberries. no greens. I need to get some more greens. I really should be making smoothies.

Hi=)
Well, I was going to post what I ate later in the day--but I find that making a plan helps me to figure out what I could make, even if I choose something else. Maybe I'll do both--I certainly spend enough time on the boards...
B-cilantro/avacado/lime /garlic gs
L-"wilted" mustard greens w/tomato, liquid smoke drops, garlic and olive oil
S-pumpkin pie milkshake
D-garshbrowns, as recommended by zaphirah

Sweetheart, HANG IN THERE!!! And know that you are NOT alone. I'm at 17 credits, first semester in a competitive music program. I'm swamped, freaked out, and struggling...
BUT - you focus on the GOAL when the going gets toughest, and focus on the wonderful things you're going to get from it all.... it's just like eating RAW!!! The detox can be a WHOPPER, but the benefits??? ETERNAL. :D

Yes, Thick, do post in the am! I'd be lonely if you and Deb were both not here! :p
Yesterday afternoon there was a huge cloud of black smoke northwest of the town I work in and over a few hours the smoke spread and covered the whole Roseburg area. It hasn't rained in months and there's a 3000 acre wildfire east of town they've been battling for weeks, so naturally I started worrying about my town. Daughter wouldn't answer the phone and I couldn't find anything on the net and didn't hear anything on the radio so I RUSHED home after work instead of going to the grocery. Someone was doing a controlled burn on a 500 acre horse farm. Dang 'em! I then remembered how last year in September there were planned burns everywhere and I don't understand why there isn't a notice in the paper or a public service announcement so people like me won't freak. So after I went home and saw yes, my daughter and all my animals are ok, then I went to the local grocery. It's a dive, really a backwoods country store. But I did find some zucchini, bananas, mushrooms and red peppers that looked ok. I went home and started some lasagne. I just make up the lasagne as I go along whenever I make it and I usually love it. This was: zucchini, fresh tomatoes, spinach, tomato sauce, mushrooms, olives, onions, garlic, dulse and a small amount of cheese sauce I decided to make at the last minute consisting of: a cup of brazil nuts I only soaked for 10 minutes due to lack of time, olive oil, turmeric, paprika, dulse, nutritional yeast, lecithin (so it would dry with a more cheesy texture, but not raw) and naturally fermented sauerkraut. I've used sauerkraut before in my cheeses and it totally improves the flavor IMO. I stuck the whole shebang in the dehydrator all night after I nibbled on a lot of it as is. The last time I used avocado instead of cheese and it tasted good the first day, but even though the avo was sandwiched between tomato layers, it turned brown pretty quickly and it was hard to be excited about eating the leftovers.
I also had a pot of duck parts and bones in the oven at 165 degrees all night to make stock for my mom who has a bad knee problem. I have GOT to find a living foods source of hydralauronic acid. It's no problem financially right now because I have plenty of duck, but what about later, if I whittle down the farm to few or no animals? And what about my own knees, which are pretty terrible? And I spend half of my day crawling around in and under cars. The glucosamine/choindroitin(sp?)/MSN supplements do nothing for me and besides, supplements are expensive and they are made from animal products.
Today I ate lasagne for breakfast! And brought more to work, along with celery sticks, a salad, an apple, a handful of raw peanuts and pumpkin seeds and a Keeerunch bar that turns out isn't all raw (has rice puffs in it!) even though the company that makes it makes Organic Raw Food Bars. I bought a whole box of them so I will finish them and not order again. I plan to go to the gym after work.

Vaclare, I wish I had taken more credits at a time when I was your age. I took 12 credits and worked full time because I wanted to live alone and couldn't afford the bills otherwise. And I took summers off. My parents had offered me the chance to live with them but I didn't accept. Then I got pregnant... and then got pregnant again... and ended up in tech school ten years later instead of finishing college because I'd missed so much time they were gonna make me take several classes over again. So I never got my bachelors. It is so tough, but so worth it. Hang in there.

Hi everyone ... I enjoy reading what everyone is making/eating and looking up recipes ... those "garshbrowns" look delicious ... I will have to try them when I get back in town.
Food for the day:
GS - bananas, blueberries, nut butter, cinnamon, ground flax, baby spring greens
Alissa's Broccoli soup
Onion bread
Almonds
Honeycrisp apple
I am going out of town tomorrow to attend my church's Excellence in Ministry conference ... I am planning to bring Pure Bars with me and some celery and almond butter, and apples. The hotel has fruit (like bananas, apples, oranges) included in their conteniental breakfast. Not sure if I will have time to use their business center to post so I will be back on the boards Sunday or Monday ... Y'all keep RAWkin! :D

I was considering Deb's idea of posting in the evening because I struggle with the same time period 4-8:00 ... HOWEVER, as I have been thinking more about this I think what I am going to do (If you all can tolerate me) is post at or around each meal time. I am on the boards anyway. So ...
For breakfast today I had - 4 Black Mission Figs and a large glass of Almond Milk
For Lunch - Pear/Spinach Smoothie
Renee - how are your kiddos doing today? We are gradually weaning junk out of our house. I don't need to look at it and they don't need to eat it!
I am considering starting the Master Cleanse on Monday.

Renee--what a great menu. Please tell me about the not chicken not noodle soup. I have the book and have looked at that recipe before, but can't picture how it would taste, IYKWIM!
vaclare--I can so relate to the overwhelming. I really depended on fellow classmates/study-buddies for support. Do you have any, or could you? I know it's harder at an urban school where everyone has busy off-campus lives, but there might be someone who's just hoping to find the same support you are.
thick--please post about those mustard greens and hashbrowns! Can't wait!
girlsmiley--have a great time and enjoy being "on the road." I love to travel, since I don't get to for work. It's a treat.
Well, I just sat at in cubicle while a co-worker ate SAD cooked and fried items that contained not one vegetable at my desk (lunch meeting). I can't believe he just ate those things less than one foot away from me! The leftovers are in a box under my desk. Hang on a sec, I'm going to toss the box in the breakroom trash can....
Whew. I gotta shake like a wet dog (figuratively speaking) to get rid of those images. And smells.
I had my permanent crown put on this morning and my mouth is very sore. Dentist said no almonds! Not to worry, I can't take the idea of eating anything hard or cold.
Last night D--Gave up on the cauliflower rice. It made a wonderful cooked soup for Mr.Liza. Instead, I had cheese sauce and seed crackers; a green salad of butter lettuce with lemon/oil; and later, a fruit smoothie of cherries, strawberries, peaches, and little almond butter.
Today B--warm zinger tea, post-crown
L--salad of soft things: baby spinach leaves, tomato, mushroom, very small amount of olives/beets/garbanzos (not raw but soft). I chopped everything up into little pieces and chewed on one side. More warm zinger tea after.
I wasn't expecting it to hurt, but the damage to the tooth was extensive and below the gum line. I asked the dentist if I would lose it, and he said never. Hope that's true!

Hyaluronic acid. (I spelled it wrong)
So far I have come up with: it is found in all animal tissues, especially eyeballs, chicken combs, umbilical cords, fibroblast cells and vegetarian sources are genetically engineered bacteria.
Mmmm... mmmm. I don't eat genetically engineered stuff, so it is obvious I've gotta get me some eyeballs!

Wellll... I have a thought ... let's see what everyone else thinks. If it is found in these animal tissues, they must make what they need. If our bodies are given the correct fuel I believe it will make the amount WE need.
Here's a story ... Several years ago I crossed paths with a gentleman in his mid 60's and he was on serious pain meds and the docs had told him it was just a matter of time before he had to have BOTH knees replaced. I introduced him to HIGH raw with the inclusion of raw juices (specifically carrot and a green juice powder). He started taking these regularly and within about 2 months was off ALL pain medication. Several months later he moved back to his home state and back to his SAD diet and last I heard from them he was in rehab after having both knees replaced .
Also, my hubby has BAD knees from football injuries and notices a MARKED improvement when we are juicing regularly.
Just some food for thought.
Blessings,
Heather

for breakfast, i had a luna bar
for lunch i had a salad with lettuce, cucumbers, tomatoes, onions - the usual
then i made some guacamole and put some of that on top because i really like avocado stuff. i feel like before i went raw, i might have liked something fattening or sugary and now that im raw im looking for something else to fill that void. i think avocado or guac is fine in small amounts, but i never seem to be able to control my eating...which is why im going raw in the first place. i guess i just need to be nice to myself and realise that i need to adjust.. or something like that. :)
for dinner im not sure what im going to have. maybe a salad or a smoothie.. and im also going to go for a walk. (in case anyone is interested, i just found this neat site called "The Walk of Life Program": http://walking.about.com/cs/walkoflife/a/bldayweek1.htm)
thanks for everyones support! :)
P.S. All the food everyone ate today sounds amazing!! I really need to learn some raw cooking! :) Does anyone know of some good basic recipes to start off with?

Hmmmmmm....well, my Vitamix arrived!...But...it is a commercial BarBoss, not the 5200 as was listed:confused:...I'm not sure if I am upset...it does make a great smoothie.....but seems kinda clunky...the base just plops in the bottom and doesn't turn in tight like my cheap blender {do all VM do this?} ...the top is chunky too...just seems kind of cumbersome, but I can certainly get used to it! I called VM and they said it is made for making margaritas etc, all day and the blades probably wouldn't do nut butters {that's okay, my Champion does that}.....but would be fine for smoothies....I just want it to be able to make all sorts of smoothies...and I thought I read somewhere that bar blenders don't grind and puree like other blenders....VM rep. also said of course there was no warranty {it is only 1 year and the blender is 2 years old}...and of course I don't the cookbook {do I need that?}....But it is a more expensive blender and commercial and all....hmmmmm....I dunno....still pondering it...any thoughts????
This morning I had soaked buckwheat with banana milk and cinnamon..mmmmm, was good and nice change of pace....later....banana, apples, nut butter........a lara bar.....big salad for dinner....of course a smoothie made with the VM...now I know why they call it smoothies!!!! it is sooo smooth....:)
Hmmmm....maybe I should try to re-sell it on EBAY and get my money back and then buy a VM from the corp........hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Deb - I would contact the seller that you bought it from, if they aren't willing to make good, contact Ebay ... if I'm not mistaken they have some recourse for things like this (people selling things that AREN'T what they said it was). It might be helpful if we all share what types of things we use our vitamix for other than smoothies so you can see if it would truly impact you.
I use my VitaMix for:
Velvety Smooth Cheese Cake
Cheese Sauces (made with nuts)
Eggless Eggsalad
Nut Milk
Puree Whole Fruit
Nut Butter (but you can make this in your Champion)
I am off to make another glass of Almond Milk.

deberaw--the vitamix I have (3600+) just "plops" onto the base, too. I believe they're all like that. So, are you saying the one you got is a more expensive machine than what you paid for? I use mine for soup and smoothies. That's about all I've ever used it for, although it grinds grain and does some other things. It takes care of anything I put in it, including ice, and it is still going strong 14-15 years later.
MiahTay

Deb - Mine just plops on the base too. Mine doesn't grind grains... I used to have a container with dry blades but the bearing went and I haven't replaced it.

Thick
09-24-2008, 08:43 PM
You definately need a tamper to make most thick things. I recently received my used ebayed vitamix, too. It wasn't the all powerful, grind lightbulbs to dust, put anything in and get pudding out machine I was expecting--but it sure does an excellent job of smoothing any liquids. Im sure in time I'll learn more about using it.
On another note--whoa are my mustard greens good. You need to stir them a lot and add some water for pot liquor near the end. I let mine go while I was out today and came back to kale chip-like topping(have to officially try that with mustard greens now) I just stirred it around, added the water, smushed the tomatoes a bit and let it go another 30 minutes or so. I did add some tobasco at the end (which, actually might be raw, hmm) Now I need to try some cornbread recipe..
I didn't make the garshbrowns yet, but I'm planning to make them tonight in the wee kidless hours to be ready for breakfast tomorrow. I've decided to let them get very crunchy--I hope they are not "crunchy" like sweet potato chips are. I think adding a lot of oil might be key in making them crispy instead of chewy and hard--let's hope anyway.

Thank You Heather and Emma-Liza! Okay...so I guess they all just 'plop' onto the base! Minor detail.....I do want it to make smooth cheeses and cakes and such with nuts...so that will be the next test...if it doesn't pass that, then I likely will try to re-sell on EBAY...I had good communication with the seller and contacted him about it {haven't heard back yet}, my feeling is that it was an honest mistake...maybe he mixed up numbers somehow....he showed the photo of the BarBoss, but it was described as a 5200 commercial VM....I couldn't find such a thing elsewhere and that is why I was second guessing myself...I asked if he had manuals and he sent them...I think he really could have gotten more for it since it typically costs more than the 5200. It costs more, but...I thought I read somewhere that bar blenders don't grind nuts etc....I'm now wondering if since it doesn't do nut butters if it will even do cheeses for cakes and savory dishes...hmmm....I'm thinking not as I think aloud here...the VM rep said something about the blades not being as sharp....I'll have to try it....but maybe I'll see what the seller says....I appreciate the input!
Heather: your cheese dressing is sooooo good dehydrated...really tastes like cheddar to me...I can't stop eating it! {well, it's almost gone now:p}........
I have not posted in about a week (although I have been sneakily reading all of your posts) because between working full time and doing 15 units of school I really just don't want to type or talk or think anymore when I get home.(I so feel you, Ms Vaclare). Also, I am in exams right now so no time. I am actually using this forum to procrastinate studying as we speak!
I have been staying raw and have no intention of going back to cooked food anytime soon. I have so much energy and my skin looks lovely (although it has gone through a little breakout when I am detoxing a little more but it clears up right away).
Anyways, hang in there with school Vaclare (if you do, I will:)

Thick, we honestly did miss you while you were "gone" with the hurricane. Yep, we are your friends and we are challenged...
Miahtay, I am hoping your post about repairing knees and making hyaluronic acid in our own bodies is correct. I know my knees don't hurt as much since I've been raw and I can't assume it's because I've lost weight since I've lost very little. But my mother won't go raw so I'm trying to figure out how I can help her in ways she will accept. I bought her some Serragold (serratiopeptidase, an enzyme that repairs damaged tissues) and she hasn't touched it. But I know she eats broth. So I was wondering if I could come up with some amazing fruit dessert that was somehow loaded with HA. Probably wishful thinking there...
Another thing I've noticed: I don't get dizzy anymore when I check in cars at work. Part of my job is to receive the vehicles off the car carrier trucks, and this means reaching over from the drivers seat to the glove box to open it looking for keys and owners manuals, popping the hood open, dropping to one knee to look at the lower left side, then standing up and standing on the door jam to look at the roof, then dropping down on one knee to look under the bumper, then standing up and backing up to look at the front, then lifting the hood and peering under it for missing parts, then dropping to one knee to look under the right side of the car, then standing up and stepping back to look at the sides, then dropping to one knee to look at the back of the car... etc, all in the time of about one minute. I used to get soooo dizzy doing this after only two cars. Now I can check in thirteen one right after another with no problem. And my knees and hips rarely hurt, too! And I don't feel the least bit embarrassed to do all this in front of customers with their cars anymore since I'm not creaking and popping like a very old person.
Last night I made a quick trip to the gym since I got out of work late. But I did go! And I'm proud of myself for that. Then I was driving home and suddenly saw a veggie stand I'd been meaning to stop at for weeks so I did a u-turn and went back, even though I was at the grocery yesterday. Must have been meant to be. I spent $27 while talking to the guy about the weird growing conditions this year, chickens, what I had too much of on my own place and the plants that wouldn't grow, etc, etc. The guy said, "Since you spent a lot, I'll give you some things free for your chickens!" (He obviously doesn't know what spending a lot on produce means...) So he gave me a lot of wilty lettuce, corn and squished looking tomatoes and cantaloups. I took em home and processed about half the tomatoes for myself (:D) because once I cut the bruised spots off they were ok and the birds had a treat for breakfast this morning. He also gave me some free corn. Again, after I shucked it and broke some bad spots off the tops, I got some for my freezer. I picked some of my own corn and tomatoes and processed them at the same time. I ate my "dinner" while processing all this. I felt joyous and blessed!
One thing I've noticed, too about being raw is that as soon as my headaches and blurry eyes went away, people have been really nice to me. I must have been frowning a lot and didn't even know it.
This morning I ate some of my yummy lasagne again for breakfast. I packed for work:
some cacao nibs (don't ask me why! but there they are in my box! maybe because I've hardly slept all week and I think they'll give me a rush?)
more lasagne
celery sticks
an apple
a banana
and about 3 tbsp of left over sauce for crepes

Yesterday seemed liked it lasted forever. And not in a good way! ;)
thick--I tried wilting some chard like the spinach. The green part wilted nicely, but even though I removed the center spine, it was still too vein-y for my taste! I have really been appreciating your comments on my blog! Thanks!
I brought pecans and raisins (love this combination!) to work to sub for my usual almond snack. The pecans are a softer nut, but unfortunately they are acidic rather than alkaline, so I need to balance them with something else. Need to figure that out.
Last night D--wilted spinach salad with tomatoes, cremini mushrooms, and scallions. Everything was tossed in garlic oil and dehydrated for an hour. Also had a few spoonfuls of thick cheddar sauce while I was waiting.
S--small handful each of pecan halves and raisins
Today B--apple, few more pecan halves and raisins (4-5 each)
L--usual salad bar

Deb, that is great! Sounds like you got a great deal there after all!
Miahtay, I'm glad to hear you like my posts! I write like I talk... super fast for a Southern girl. Blablablablablaw at a million miles a minute! And maybe you'll get less out of breath as time goes on! I was watching three guys at the gym yesterday do this amazing left-foot-right-foot jumping on and off a shin-high bench at lightning speed, first jumping in front of them, then straddling it and jumping. Then they walked around the gym bringing one foot up behind them and grabbing it with one hand while they bent over to touch the floor with the other hand. All of this in unison, with no one getting wobbly or slacking off. I was awed, thinking I could never do that. Then I remembered my aerobic exercise checking cars in and thought, maybe I can someday!

Hello,
I feel like I haven't talked to y'all in forever. It's been storming here lately, the coastal storm that came through Va Beach/NC. So, it has been so dark lately and rainy yuck. Makes me feel VERY tired.
I have been raw lately.
I see you are enjoying your VM DEBERAW :) I like mine as well. It does get the food smooth.

Ok, I'm heading into dinner prep time and needed my "fix" of RFT. So, since lunch I have had:
1 Plum
16 oz of almond/cacao/ginger milk (but just a touch)
I'm about ready to hit the kitchen and start chopping. I've got those flax crackers in the dehydrator and it is making the whole house smell so good.

Not too much appetite these days due to detox symptoms. Lost two pounds over the last couple of days though!
B - Fruit Smoothie (ran out of greens)
L Bell Pepper stuffed with Almost Tuna and an avocado
D- Veggie juice or smoothie depending on when I get home.

Then my dd and I made almond butter stuffed chocolate covered dates for dessert. These were a bit messy and not nearly as pretty as I would like them to be but they taste really good.

I've had a busy day thus far, today was grocery shopping day and I bought all the stuff I need for the Master Cleanse I will be starting on Monday. My mom and I are doing this together - so cool! It was a bit odd shopping for food excluding the food we would normally eat.

Miahtay, almond butter stuffed chocolate covered dates sound like a fabulous improvement on Snickers or other caramelly bars!
Last night I made Alissa's buckwheat pizza crust - sort of. I tripled the recipe, replaced 1/6 of the buckwheat with sunflower seeds and 2/3 the carrot with zucchini and put in more olive oil and spices.
My dogs ran off with more pears and ate them on my bed and my carpet.
I ate the last of the lasagne and now I'm sad because I had so many chores last night I didn't make anything for today. So I got some plum/banana puree and some pear/cinnamon puree out of the freezer and I'm waiting for them to thaw while I wish I had pizza or lasagne! :(
Also brought some celery and that is LONG GONE.

Got up early to work a 5K fundraiser for a pet rescue. I helped work the "guess the dna of this mutt" contest and the adoptable dogs tent. I almost brought a dog home with me!
They had a huge food table set up and were grilling as well, but I was savvy and brought fruit, raw crunch bar, and the last of my pea and corn salads. Ate all but the corn and will be having that soon! I tried not to look at anyone's plate and I stayed far, far away from the table. I'm kind of bummed that that food still tempts me. I despise it in principle, but I don't despise the taste of it. Isn't it odd?
Dinner tonight is another party--a wedding reception. The bride and many of her friends are vegetarian/vegan, so I'm hoping for a better eating experience than the reunion last night! :(
I am wondering about dates. Am I supposed to soak them for some reason before I eat them? Love if some of you can let me know any info you have about that...
Anyways, food today~
After my 7 mile training run (yay, LA Marathon!): Lara bar and apple
B: Lasagne from the night before
L: Vegan nori roll "sushi"
Snack: Dates and young coconut meat
D: Sprouts with seed cheese and tomato sauce

I am really enjoying GS and smoothies in the VM....but will make almond milk choco ice-cream {Choco almond milk frozen then put thru the Champion}.....pizza crusts, nut cheese.......salad and guac....and I'm not sure what else....Make a great Raw day!

Hi=)
Deberaw, I love those little bananas. I also bought some at a mexican produce market recently--because they were ripe. When I've seen them before in a grocery store they have been either green or black. They are amazingly good! I thought they'd taste starchy like plantains--but they are so much like custard. So much like banana pudding!
Miahtay, what are you eating today to prepare for the mc? Id love to live vicariously through you while you do the cleanse. Maybe you could write a MC blog day-by- day account of what you do and what happens.
I was up very early this morning with pain and couldn't go back to sleep. Ok that's it for the whining=)>
Yesterday-
mango, banana, spinach smoothie
spinach, mushroom, tomato, garlic "bake"
cacao/maca/ almond butter shake
cornbread dressing (corn, celery, onion, sage, evoo-"warmed")
cacao dipped strawberries
Today-
B-raspberry lemonade slush
L-indian spinach dip w/ turnip rice (unless its awful)
S-fresh garbanzo bean hummus with celery (fresh still in a pod--never seen them before Ill take a picture)
D-jalapeno burgers, today called chicken fried walnuts
mustard greens
fried okra (as posted by Emma-Liza--from bunny berry's you tube recipe)
Well, Im going to go make all of this stuff before anyone else wakes up. I'm so grateful to have a place "where everybody knows your name, and they're always glad you came"=)>

Well ... I think I'm just going to try to be sensible and not OVER indulge because I'm going to be starting a fast (you know that thing in your brain that tells you eat while you can...). So far I've had a banana with some almonds and dates with almond milk. Probably a GS for lunch and I might do another smoothie for dinner TBD. I am very calm and mellow, totally ready to start this. And I will be posting DAILY in the MC thread I started over on the FASTING board... it looks like there will be 4 of us (so far) starting tomorrow plus my mom who is doing it here with me. You know you COULD always join us for 10 days or so ;). I have no idea how to start a blog ... technically challenged. deberaw, love the international markets, love my mouse like you do but use a laptop more so I can sit in the den w/Mr.Liza and the tv, love the choco almond ice cream idea. I just got my champion and I'm loving all the ways I can use it!
thick--I just posted a question for you on the rice thread! :) Are the bananas labled apple bananas? I think I've seen them and just looked right past, thinking they were a hybrid like those grape-flavored apples. I think I'm a big duh-head sometimes! Your cornbread dressing is inspired! Would you consider using your blog space to record all your recipes in one place? You can make a recipe category and then I, okay, we, could go over and look at all your "receipts." When you have bunch, you can do a cookbook. Like the way I'm just planning your life? :D Seriously, you do have some super recipe ideas!
Renee--raw traveling is dedication! good for you! I hope you are somewhere cool and beautiful and can get outside.
Today so far, all I've had is some soaked raw peanuts. These have a very crisp, juicy texture, like a raw bean. I put a few more to soak to add to salad of some sort. Also, I can see that most of them have sprouts, so I feel a bit reassured that they are still raw. I can hope, anyway.
Have a good sunday, everyone. I'll be back this evening....
Update:
Went to the ranch to visit my horse. One of the owners told me they hadn't seen him all day, so I got in the mule and went to find him. Took my dog and a pocket full of Mrs Pastures cookies. Found him munching in the shade of an osage orange tree along the fenceline (he loves to eat those things), with 3 of the non-stalled geldings. What a beautiful sight he is!
Spent the rest of the afternoon sorting out all my clothes, packing the large sizes away :) and filling 4 bags with clothing for charity. There was some stuff from the '80s, y'all!
Rest of my food for the day--
B--apple juice
L--corn and sundried tomato salad
S--pecan stuffed date
chunk of seed cracker
apple
D--wilted spinach, tomato, cremini, and scallion
Thanks Deberaw! I was worried that I have been a lot less raw than I thought since I have been enjoying the medjool dates in a big way this month (maybe too much, I may need a date intervention!)
Today:
B-GS with kale, romaine, banana, apple, ginger (what an amazing change the ginger makes!), frozen cherries and strawberries.
S-raw hulva, coconut
L-salad
D-zucchini noodles with tomato sauce and seed cheese
Congratulations ReneeH on being prepared on your layover. It feels so good, doesn't it?
Hope you all do well today!

Retired, but too busy to post :o. I'm happy to see everybody's still raw. Me too! A couple more days and I will have been 100% raw for 2 whole months. (Pats herself on the back:D). Today I am doing a watermelon juice fast, because I have "gained" about 5 pounds in the last few days. All water, I'm sure, because I've been PIGGING OUT on the pickles I made a couple of weeks ago. There is a ton of sodium in those babies. Tomato miso soup as well., Just couldn't get enough of that salty stuff. Learned my lesson (I hope). Will have to do things in moderation.

Starving this morning! My weight is up (a little) and I'm sooo hungry! Not a happy combo!
So far today, I've had some grapes and some pecans.
Planning on a salad bar lunch. Have some almonds soaking and 3 more pieces of fruit to choose from for a snack or smoothie.
I'm having a hard time not eating after dinner. I keep thinking about eating and I have to force myself to do something else. :(
Update:
snacked on banana and more pecans, soaked almonds
dinner was a zucchini lasagna with marinara, rich cheddar sauce, and 4 sundried olives
too much nuttiness today, but the starchy cravings were intense! and I needed something so satisfactorily savory that I wouldn't be tempted to eat pasta (there's a whole bunch left from Mr.Liza's supper last night). so far, so good!

Hi everyone!!!
I'm back home in TEXAS!!! It feels SOOO good to be home!!! :) It feels SOOO good that I STAYED RAW WHILE I WAS ON MY TRIP IN OREGON!!! :)
The flight crews were amazed  that I eat this way and kept asking me questions about my lifestyle. Honestly, I told them, ANYONE can do this! So many people ARE doing this!!! I let a co-worker taste Alissa's Stuffed Portabella Mushrooms and my RAW Burgers and she absolutely LOVED them!!! But, then again, why wouldn't she? It's made from fresh, organic ingredients made for her body!!! And, when I was at my hotel, I did not spend ONE DIME, not ONE PENNYon food!!! Do you know how much money I saved? I was so glad there was a frig in my room, but if there wasn't I would have been just fine! I would have gotten through it!
I think I'm most proud of the fact that I feel MENTALLY RAW. I'm not even THINKING about cooked food anymore. They had cooked food on the airplane, and yes it smelled good. But, honestly I didn't WANT it. I really didn't. What I had on my plate that I brought, because I was PREPARED, was SOOOOOO much more appetizing than what they had!!!
So, the moral of the story: I'M STAYING RAW....I'M HAPPIER :D
HAVE A RAWSOME DAY!!!!

Emma-Liza, if I am hungry in the evening, I make myself a bowl of plain green salad, using an entire head of butter lettuce or similar, and dress it with my own vinaigrette. It's easy to make and takes me a long time to eat. By the time I'm done, I've taken in maybe 150 calories and probably expended that much just chewing and being alive. The salad is extremely nutrient dense, so very good for me. Eating it kills at least a half hour, and it doesn't stuff me to the point of keeping me awake.
Yesterday, I spent most of the day drinking just watermelon juice, but then I had a fantastic cauliflower-rice/cucumber/pickles/bell pepper/onion salad concoction with garlicky/gingery dressing, all due to spending too much time reading "rice" threads, lol. Boy was it good!
Today so far I've had some hi-protein bread I invented a few weeks ago (and have to eat it, but it's definitely not going to remain in my recipe book!) with a spread I made (tons of veggies with soaked sunflower seeds, coconut oil and spices). Max wants his walk now, and I'll decide on the rest of today's food as I get hungry.
Have a great day everybody!

Congrats Zaph! ...Emma-Liza....I get that way sometimes too...baby carrots with the Bomb cheese helps me, keep munchin them.....or sometimes I'll have a bowl of ground flax with cinnamon, banana or apple, and water or almond milk all mixed in...or a nice green salad too....
I go my hair cut today...and I don't like it!!!!! What a yucky feeling! Now all I can do is let it grow out! Don't like that feeling...was cut too short is all....came out way shorter that I had planned...sigh....BUT, my jeans that I haven't tried on in a while fit me better...and I lost some weight this month...picked up running again...that always helps too!

Little late checking in this morning. Found out I am moving to the other (busier) store tomorrow. So I probably won't do the October challenge because I won't be online as much. I hardly ever get online at home.
I had a bad weekend and accidentally damaged a bunch of my belongings. I was trying to do my daughters and my chores since she didn't do hers and I was in a hurry and my allergies were acting up worse than they have in months so my eyes were all runny and I kept sneezing and I hadn't slept... you know the rest. Yep, so among other things I'm trying to find a replacement tailgate for my truck, a replacement heater element for my scalder, a replacement wiring harness, oh, and maybe a new left foot because it has glass imbedded deep in it... Grrrrr.....
I tripled Alissa's pizza before Mom came over (good thing, or I would've ruined that, too) but I hijacked the cheese recipe because I've been craving smoked gouda. I used sauerkraut instead of the lemon and added in a bunch of spices, including 3 drops of natural hickory smoke seasoning, nutritional yeast, garlic, paprika and dry mustard. The cheese tasted pretty good, but it's always sort of fake tasting like soy cheese. I'll keep working on it.
Mom ate two pieces of the pizza and said it was ok. I liked it well enough to eat it several times over the weekend and to bring more with me to work today. I'm hoping it's pretty low calorie since I made three and a half pizzas! :)
Last night I made some more of her carrot cake, although I hijacked that recipe, too. I added in more carrots, 2 bananas and some pineapple, upped the dates a little and left out the raisins. I also put in a finger-long chunk of ginger. I ate some of that for breakfast and brought some with me to work.
I've already eaten it and also my pizza. I have two bananas for later.

For the upcoming October challenge I am going to eat 90% nut free and focus on just fruit, veggies, fresh juice and green smoothies. I have been enjoying the heck out of raw food but have been eating a lot of dates (10 a day) and, up until a week ago, a fair amount of nuts and avocados (1-2 a day). I am the only person I know who has gained (10 lbs) of weight while eating raw AND training for a marathon by running 5 days a week!
I am starting to get a little frustrated because while I am certainly eating more than I need to survive I am not overeating to the point where this should be happening (cannot fit into my clothes anymore), so I know that I must be doing something wrong.
Sorry to drag on about weight as I know this is not a weight loss forum and I am in love with the health benefits of raw but I am a little concerned for obvious reasons (how much more am I going to gain?) Has anyone else had this experience? I have been 100% raw all month and for 2 months before that I was about 75% raw. I am not in this for weight loss but I am soooo NOT into it for weight gain either so if anyone has any helpful feedback, support, or experiences to share with me I would be forever grateful.
Food today:
B~GS, young coconut
Snack~Lara Bar
L~ Big salad with tons of veggies, raw halva
D~Not sure yet, maybe zucchini pasta with marinara
Thanks for listening to my panic today...

EmmaT and deberaw, thanks for the advice. I will keep it in mind--I don't think I'm really hungry, just reaching back into the past for that evening snack habit. A lettuce salad sounds really good--with a lemony dressing. Don't know why the sweet craving rarely attacks me, I just want starchy salty fatty stuff!

g'mornin'!
Today is my usual: fruit for breakfast (probably banana), salad bar for lunch, more fruit (probably apple) + soaked almonds for snack. Dinner is looking like the other half of my lasagna from last night, plus a butter lettuce/lemon/oil salad (my fave side dish).
I've started soaking almonds to keep at work and it's made a huge difference both in how satisfying they are and how many I eat. IOW, more satisfying, eating fewer!

Last night I went out to the garden to collect greens and discovered to my horror that (along with all the other things I did stooooopid over the weekend, I left the garden gate open. The deer munched everything down to about half an inch above the soil. Tonight I will go back and see if I can salvage any carrots, at least. Dang it!
This am I made a green smoothie with lettuce, spinach (purchased) and blackberries (foraged and frozen). It was ok, though I put a little too much lettuce in and the blackberry seeds are kind of disconcerting.
I brought more pizza and carrot/pinapple cake pudding to work along with a banana, some more smoothie and a lime.
This afternoon I am going back to my old desk in a public location so after this am I probably won't post much anymore. I've enjoyed these two challenges and all the comeraderie within!

Late posting today, yesterday was super stressful, my boss had to lay off two people:(. I had hired them both and we have really gotten to know each other so I was really sad. Amazingly, I stayed 100% raw! The stress and sadness really brought some temptations, but I got through them.
Today.
B - Green smoothie
L. Pad Thai and salad
S Peach (I bought 1/2 case of peaches, so I'm eating a lot of them)
D Probably leftover pad thai. (I grew mung bean sprouts and have a TON of them:rolleyes:.

I ate 100% raw today. Had salad spinach broccoli with EVOO & ACV for lunch. Blueberries for breakfast. Dinner will be another salad or some carrot soup or something in the VM.

Hi, vaclare, haven't seen you for a few days...hope school is getting less stressful!
Petal--puh-leeze don't stop posting! check in when you can! I'm going to miss you a lot! I was thinking that the deer have their own foraging club...:)
Deb--your smoothie sounds yummy, like all your food. I'll see you next month, too.
anna--I had a stressful day too and wanted to eat snackie cakes and cheezy poofs. It was really touch and go....big bowl of leftover SAD pasta in the fridge, but I've gotten this far....your day was worse than mine and you did really well! Maybe you can help your friends with their resumes, recommendations, etc.
Stuck to my food plan for the day, except I swapped grapes for the breakfast apple.

EmmaLiza: Hey, Yeah school is alright but still stressful somewhat. I'm getting tutors to help with the load. Some of my classes are fun though. At least my math teacher lets us return the test for half credit (correct the wrong answers).
:)
I'm just tired a lot lately although been raw and eating a lot. I get tired when I stuff myself full of raw foods too so I 'm just eating pretty much round the clock when I'm hungry or feeling like I need to eat.
I'm feeling less anxious and depressed though. I think it's from eating raw. I love it. It's great being raw. I think it'll help me a lot.
Hope everyone else is signing up for the October raw challenge and stays raw. :)
I am totally down for October! (I wanted to say Rawktober (cheesy joke), but I held it back, sort of;)) I am studying for big test tomorrow so off I go...
