I made almond milk without adding sweetner, drank about 8 ounces as it was so thick, creamy and rich. Well within 30 minutes I was sick: puking and have BM to release. Wow, what an experience at the Farmer's Market too. Maybe I should have done 4 ounces? Thanks for wisdom for future if I dare try again. Thanks.

Wonder if the mylk was bad? Yep, when experiencing new things, I tend to do a LITTLE at a time.

I don't think the almond milk made you sick. I think it was getting the ball rolling by releasing toxins in your body. It's acting as a miracle elixir for you. As evidenced by the instant BM and vomiting. :) Maybe start with a smaller amount next time. As Lucy mentions, perhaps the almonds were possibily rancid? So yes that would wipe out my theory, haha. But I have a sneaking feeling whatever was released from your body wasn't the almond milk. It was something even better and you'll probably feel great soon because it's no longer in your system.

Thanks for quick replies.
I never thought of it as a quick detoxing. Surely got things rolling faster than ever intended. Glad it worked so fast and got better within minutes too. Amazing how God and nature seem to know just what is right for a cleanse to happen. Glad my body was wise to listen too.
Thanks both you angels. The nuts tasted great as I have eaten several since and even before.
Off for acupuncture appointment--NAET treatments. Do Google or red-white.net or is it .com is where I go with info. there. This woman is amazing as she is booked 3 months in advance and so busy can't handle another new patient. I was tested, showed tons of allergies without an signs yet, but daughter has been super sick, as adult, and my mother died of tons of them with her remedy that killed her: drugs as her dr. was her God and she worshipped him for every drug he prescribed that sent her to the grave out of her choice.
Off for now.
Have a great, blessed, healthy day.

just a quick question: did you strain the mylk or just blend and drink?

This sounds like food poisoning to me.
Food Poisoning Symptoms
Symptoms of food poisoning depend on the type of contaminant and the amount eaten. The symptoms can develop rapidly, within 30 minutes, or slowly, worsening over days to weeks. Most of the common contaminants cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal cramping. Usually food poisoning is not serious, and the illness runs its course in 24-48 hours.
When it's coming out both ends like that, it's food poisoning. I had that happen to me after eating asparagus that had been in the frig to long.
I hope you feel better.

Cheryl -- it doesn't sound like the experiences I've had (two; ick!) with food poisoning. It was like an entire day and the next of vomiting and being on the toilet, unable to sleep and super dehydrated. It sounds like Carol was better pretty quickly.

Usually, with food poisening, you will have a natural aversion reaction to the food that made you sick - a strong aversion. Meaning if it was the almond milk that was bad and caused you food poisening, you'd feel nausea just thinking about it.
If you don't, it was probably something else.

Yikes! I have always considered almond milk to be very mild and easy to digest...eight ounces is not a large amount to drink at one time and that in itself doesn't seem like it would give you such a violent reaction since you have no nut allergy and have eaten them before and as you say since then.
Glad you are feeling better

It's hard to say what caused the illness.
Maybe the almonds were bad?
Maybe detox?
Maybe just too much of a good fat all at once as good fats can cause nausea if eaten in excess, and if you're not used to raw fats, that's alot of fat at once.
Maybe it's the fiber in the almonds?
Could be alot of reasons.

If you got sick immediately, the milk was probably contaminated or you made it too thick and rich for your digestion. Almond milk will last up to 3 days in the fridge and it's unlikely that it was spoiled. How long did you soak the nuts? They can spoil during the soaking process.

I didn't strain the milk before drinking it. However, I got better within an hour or less. No kidding. Glad I am still alive and here with you. Off to my past time or present time more often then I want to be: dentist as crown wobbly a second time in 2 days. OMG.
Off on the road now.
Thanks all for your kind support and wisdom. You all mean so much to me!
Going to rinse mouth first. Can't brush too much as I could have a tooth in my hand. Glad I don't have that tooth in my stomach while sleeping last night.

Just a little hint. I use the Blue Diamond almond mylk from my HFS. It's unsweetened, too. I might as well because the almonds are all pasturized anyway, so, really, unless one is using really truly RAW almonds, it makes more sense to just buy it and it's way cheaper, too, btw when it's on sale, especially. Believe me, I have priced the regular, pasturized almonds to make it from scratch it's about twice as much,(can you imagine how much it would be if you're using truly RAW almonds??) and so much more work. I can't stand being in the kitchen more then I have to, and this mylk is always fresh tasting and delish. I sweeten it with Stevia, btw.
If you want the truly raw almond mylk, Alissa sells the truly raw almonds on her site to make the mylk yourself. I wouldn't really trust your HFS for the truly RAW almonds, IMO>
Good luck
:)

Actually I made my own almond milk. I think the almonds were/are okay since I am still eating them as before without reactions. I believe it was just an overdose to my body with that quantity. Regardless, not game for more for a while.
