Ok, this is going to sound crazy to anyone who hasn't encountered this problem, but four months ago I had to go on birth control pills. Since then, I have not been able to stay even one day raw!!!!! Not completely. It was making me nuts. The cravings for those stupid bread products would get to me soooooooo much I thought I'd go nuts if I didn't have some.

So, I went off them...I instantly stayed raw for the whole week...no problem. Unfortunately...the reason I was on them in the first place reared it's ugly head and I went back on the pill.

Today...was my first day...with a lot of resolve...a lot of peace in the day...lots of raw to chose from...I made it! :D LOL I stayed raw all day for the first time. It was not like before...nothing tasted yummy. I wanted bread all day. I didn't let myself take even one bite.

I'm going to bed hungry...because honestly nothing sounds yummy...I want something baked. But I did it. Woohoo!

I know tomorrow will some how be easier because of today...and the next will be easier still.

Has anyone else had this problem?

Wow! Congratulations! That's a great feat! Those hormonal cravings can be very challenging!

CONGRATULATIONS SHELSHEL!

I know hormones can mess with your apetite/cravings/food stuff a lot. Keep fighting!!!!

One reason why people (especially women due to the hormonal flucuations) crave carbohydrates like bread and pasta, is because ingesting these foods will make it easier for the amino acid tryptophan to enter your brain. This will in turn elevate serotonin, a neurotransmitter that makes you feel happy, satisfied, and decreases appetite.

You can experiment with eating foods high in tryptophan (pumkin seeds, cashews, some leafy greens, hemp seeds or protein powder) in combination with some sweet fruit. The sugar in the fruit will make it easier for the tryptophan in the seeds/nuts/greens to enter your brain and you might get a similar effect as if eating bread.

(If your birth control pill contains progesterone - that's the culprit for your difficulties, it decreases serotonin in your brain)

Oh wow Souldanzer, I have increaesd my intake of every one of these foods before my current cycle. Greens, pumpkin seeds, hemp seeds, cashews which I couldn't get enough of cashews. Every time I went to the store I had to get a little bag. Now I know why. Very interesting info about tryptophan - thanks for sharing. Intuitive eating strikes again! :)

Congratulations ShelShel, you must feel great.

Yep, bodies are so smart :) Cashews are a special deal - they have the carbs built in (you can probably tell they taste slightly sweeter than most nuts).
The carbs go to your muscles and free up the path for tryptophan right into your brain ;)
Sadly, it's also why some people like to binge on cashews, they make one feel really good...

Fascinating connection and way to go on your whole day raw! I know that can take a lot of focus sometimes, lol...

Thanks to everyone for the congratulations. :D
That is such very important info! Thank you, thank you. I am still raw...day two! But it isn't easy and every time I open the fridge I have to close it quickly. The light wheat bread on the bottom shelf is calling to me. :p
I'm on my way to the health food store for some cashews! Thank you for that vital info. It will be such a blessing, I'm sure.

Hi all,

Just wondering if you have any thoughts on getting your tubes tied? I am seriously considering it so I can go off depo. I don't want any children.

Thanks,
Molliegirl

Hey molliegirl -- I stopped taking depo when I went raw. It just didn't make sense for me anymore to put something foreign in my body.

I've been married a few years and want kids at some point, so if I get pregnant now (ha! although... my husband and I are an ocean apart for four more months so that's a general statment)... it's not a problem. I'd be happy now, but that's a new development. :)

Here are some threads where you may find some valuable info:

Feel free to tell me to butt out and that I'm being too nosy... but why would you HAVE to go on the pill? You *may be preventing your body from solving whatever problem you are having.

Or is the problem a possible munchkin? If that's the case, I just posted some threads with other ideas. :)

Again... feel free to tell me I'm being too nosy!! :o

No, not nosey at all...I started the thread. :p

First, I have my tubes tied. I have since the birth of my second daughter almost 10 years ago now. ;) If you know for certain you aren't having anymore...ever...never...ever...then I highly recommend it. Much easier!!!!
However, if there is even the slightest hope, thought or twinkle in your eye, heart or mind to have more...wait! It's not easy to reverse.

On the other note...having said that...I had been getting my period for three weeks at a time. I've been high raw to 100% raw for over 2 and a half years now. I'm very conscious of what I put in my body, I don't even like to have tylenol when I'm in pain, but this was a must. They did all kinds of tests and all they discovered was that I had an over-abundance of uterine tissue forming...and that (after biopsy) tissue came back normal as well. He said he's never seen anyone so healthy :D, but!!!! So, the only way to establish a normal tissue lining and discharge was to regulate it with the pill. They checked to see if I was hitting peri-menopause early and nope...all that's normal as well.

And as I said before, I don't even need to take birth control...my tubes are tied.

I tried the health food store first, but after many months...to say nothing of feeling extremely weak after much blood loss...I opted for the pill. When the tests, iridologist, OBGYN can't find what's up and you are eating the best way you know how...what do you do? I just knew I had to stop extreme periods.

Hope that's not too much info for everyone...sorry about that.
