has anyone noticed different qualities in the raw cacao they have been buying?

does price reflect quality?
i hesitate to buy cacao raw powder becuse... what else might be mixed in there?

i trust alissa's store but i was hoping to find good quality nibs or powder in bulk for a cheaper price.

any suggestions?
thanx

i am bumping up my own post.....nobody has any experience with various kinds of raw cacao?
i am sure some nibs taste different than others.

ok.... well... i am hoping someone has had them from different places and has some opinions on varieties.

if not...no problem. just wondered thats all.

I haven't ever bought nibs. I've bought cacao from two different places. The price was the same and I thought they were pretty much the same quality-wise. I bought it in 1 lb. size. I think the 5 lb. is a bit cheaper per pound but I chose the 1 lb. b/c I was afraid I wouldn't use the 5 lb before it went bad.

I do find there is a difference in taste. I like RawGuru and Sunfood cacao. Recently I tried a cheaper brand at Whole Foods and it didn't taste as good. I think the Criollo beans are supposedly the best.

so i have been wondering ......does cheaper means lower quality ? i have seen some cacao on sale for some good prices. i want to buy about 5 pounds but i would hate to get 5 pounds of some inferior nibs.... just to save some money. LOL.

i guess the only way to know is to order some and check them out first.
thanks for telling me about sunfoods and raw guru and i am sure alissa's are good as well. as expensive as this stuff is..... i am just trying to save some money.
