im in the process of transitioning back into raw and im toying with different levels of fat. i know some fat is necessary but im realizing that too much is just making me feel heavy and sluggish. im thinking of going on a plan that is mostly greens and other veggies, lower sugar fruits, lots lemon ginger water, some fresh coconut, flaxseed, a little olive oil, etc. i feel so awesome eating this way. anyone else eat lower fat and feel better? im not advocating it as the best way, but high fat raw makes me nauseous.
I do not use overt fats; they make me feel sluggish and sleepy and just generally low, so I avoid them. I feel great without them, too. Once in a blue moon I will have a salad with a bit of olive oil.
When I get cravings for things like nuts or avocados I eat them. I dont eat them all of the time but I do when I feel like my body wants them. If I try to eat these things when Im not craving them I will feel bloated afterwards. Today I had 1 1/2 avocados and I feel great, but I wanted avocados. Tomorrow if I want them I will eat them again and not worry about it. Sometimes I go a month and wont crave/eat them. I just go with the flow and it works for me. Best of luck to ya!

I agree. Alissa's talks about this in her book too. Listen to your body. It's knows!

Maybe you don't need to eat it.
2x weekly after a nice warm bath - and without drying off - I apply extra virgin coconut oil to my body. A little goes a long way when your skin is moist - if I use a total of 3 tbsps I'd be surprised. Granted I need to put a beach towel on my bed to lounge as the oil absorbs but it's fantastic.
Plus, since the skin is the largest organ, it's absorbing all the good things of the coconut oil thereby getting fat without me needing to make a point of eating it.

I do what Alissa says in her book - eat as much as you want of whatever you want as long as it's RAW. Your body will guide you through the rest.
So listen to your body and eat the amount that feels best.

I'm going through a bit of quandary, as some folks say that anything above 10% fat in the diet is not good for optimum health and fitness, and others say that the right kind of fats keep hormones going, and actually help the body burn its own fat. I'd say it depends on one's own physiology - I know mine does NOT like to be weighed down with too-rich foods. Even when eating cooked foods, I tended to either eliminate overt fats whenever possible, or just use a little bit, like counting out my nuts for instance, or not using more than 1 tsp. of oil or 2 tsps. nut butter on anything, or eating half of a small avocado at a time at a meal. I'm still coming from a fitness background, that tends to frown on too many fats in the diet, no matter what the source. But some days I want them anyway, but tend to restrict somewhat even then. I've avoided making raw desserts save for one variant fat-less dehydrator cookies once in awhile.
About coconut oil on the skin - that is THE best! No lotion comes even close IMO! Since my co-op has the extra-virgin in bulk, it is pretty cheap, and my hair loves this as well as a pre-shampoo treatment. This is the ONLY thing I use on my body, and I include in my shea butter mix that I've been using lately on my face.

fats keep me raw right now. I love them, they love me=)
I am sure over the years that may change, but I trust my body- not my brain, which sometimes craves cheese but my body. If i feel fine after I eat one of my tasty desserts, then its all good- and I didn't eat that cheese:D
I say go with what feels right and keeps you on the path of raw. better to eat 10 avocados then one bag of potato chips....

Is that right = 10 avocados is better than eating a bag of potato chips ?
Im strugling eating raw anf have been for about 2 months so im thinking about eating high fat for a while hoping to keep myself raw.
Something like 2 avocados and half a coconut a day with green juices and other juices.

I eat lots of fat and I love it and it makes me feel great! I get really grouchy without my fats.
But it's all about finding what works for you. We are all so unique and our bodies thrive on different foods.

It's the QUALITY of fat that is important. Make sure you are eating only fat that comes from things like avocados, coconut & other raw nuts. Essential oils are just that, essential. Check out Udo oil which is a blend of omega 3,6 & 9 oils. It's good to make salad dressing & add to smoothies. I add it to my homemade nut butters as well. You can tell if you've had enough. You won't want to eat anything more for awhile!

I don't count things like fat. I don't count anything. That is the bonus of 100% raw. If it's raw...and I crave or want it...I eat it. I have nuts everyday. Sometimes I have all three in one day: avos, nuts and coconut oil or olive oil.
It's not worth it to me if I'm hungry all day long. I need fats!

I eat as much fat as I want. I seem to want/need more or less at different times. I find that lots of olive oil makes me sleepy, but avocados or almonds do not. I think it's all a matter of listening to our bodies and adjusting. I needed lots of fats to stay raw at first. It sounds like you are more worried about eating too little than too much. If you aren't much of a fat eater, then one of those oil supplements like Udo's , as mentioned above, might work well for you. I think it's wonderful that you have found a way of eating that makes you feel good, so go with it!
No overt fats for me. :)
I get sluggish and nauseated if I do. I like things very light!

i think im going to just listen to my body. some days i want lots of fats, other days i only want little. as long as i feel great, why worry?
Listening to your body = k3y
