Ok, I've got a problem. I have two children that look at me like I am CRAZY if I try to give them a sandwich on something more like a CRACKER. I have only tried: the onion bread, Any Phyo's Black Sesame Bread, Flax Crackers and The "Ritz" Crackers recipes. I need something that feels like bread - PLEASE HELP! At least something that is not hard like a cracker and will hold up to a bite without totally falling apart. Come on moms, what do you do?

Thanks,
Heather

PS - And collard leaves don't count - lol!

If you are looking for a really soft bread like a cooked bread, you are going to have a hard search ahead of you. There really isn't a method currently for making the super soft bread raw. You might have to just keep trying different bread recipes until you find one your kids like.

I don't have kids but still struggle with bread addiction sometimes - and yes, I like the poufy soft bread so I am experiementing with trying to get that raw. I am sure it can be done - it is just a matter of finding the right ingredient combo.

I would try making Alissa's bagels though. You can dehydrate them so theyare still a bit soft in the middle but still will stay together on the outside. Shape them into squares and the thickness to more of like a "real bread" instead of a bagel. This way they are more bread like.

Here is another recipe you might want to try too. I haven't tried it yet but I am going too:

if they are not currently 100% raw it seems like something like manna bread would be a better substitute than SAD bread at least and the rye variety by one of the main companies i see everywhere only has two ingredients although it is more cake-y than bread-y. if they are 100% raw, you could try to experiment with sprouted grain bread manna bread style and dehydrating it instead of baking; again it would come out more cake-y than bread-y but maybe you could dehydrate slices to get it a little more firm. i've also seen good reviews of bread recipes that use avocado. good luck, and congratulations on your raw family. :)

Have you tried the mediterranean almond bread by russell james. Just dont dehydrate it too long so that it stays softer. You can always change seasonings up for a different flavor but the texture of his bread is good. Its not like sad bread but its good. I dont know of any raw recipe quite like a sad bread. I know some folks eat the ezeikiel sprouted bread but its not truly raw.

His curried cabbage pillows look delish too.

How about wraps? Greens, like collard or romaine, they can build their own sandwich.

Ok, I'm laughing now ... I knew someone would come up with this suggestion that's why I put the PS in my original post. They eat a nice big salad just fine and will drink their Green Smoothies with the best of 'em, but when it comes to sandwhiches (or tacos for that matter) greens get the "you've got to be kidding me, mom" look. Thanks.

Also, thanks for all your suggestions so far everyone. One thing ... I've been uncertain about sprouting wheat berries (is this like wheat before it's ground into flour?). I'm sure it would open up more options if I could figure this out.

Blessings, Heather
