Raw Oat Groats

Best place to buy. I am under the impression that the steel cut oats at whole foods are raw but I can't get a straight answer. Does anyone know?

Hi Les,

No, unfortunately the steel cut oats from the stores, co-ops, etc. are not TRULY raw. The story is, oats go rancid very quickly and have a very short shelf life so the ones in stores are lightly steamed.

But online you can find truly raw oats (usually rolled, but I believe you can get the raw oat groats as well). Alissa has some truly raw oats that are hand-rolled on her site.

I buy them from Alissa's site and just keep them in the fridge. I have some that I bought earlier this year (don't use often) and..........(just walked to the fridge) they seem just fine...
