Hello My name is Kay and I just joined your group!

I am sorry to ask this question but I was wondering if someone can give me some basic guidelines so that I can go grocery shopping today and get started asap. I tried to get her book at both Barnes & Nobles and Borders, none of the stores here in Colorado had her book.

I had to order it online, I am so impatient since I am pregnant (11 weeks) and gaining weight and want a healthier way to eat.

Can someone give me a sample week or suggestions on what I should buy today at the store to hold me over until I get my book in the mail??

Thank You!!

Hi and welcome Kay!

Also, congrats on your baby!

Well, I'd suggest simply going and purchasing some of your favorite raw fruits, veggies, nuts and seeds. Get some raisins and/or dates and you can use a food processor (if you have one) to whip up some nut-n-fruit snack (roll into balls and get some shredded coconut to roll it in) or just make a trail mix with your favorite nuts, seeds and dried fruit. That's what I did when I first started and didn't have any recipe books. You can also get frozen strawberries and/or blueberries along with other fruit and make smoothies in your blender if you have one.

Also, check out our recipe section here on the forum...TONS of recipes, pictures, etc. to get you going are there!

We have salad dressing recipes so you can make a nice salad with homemade raw dressing. To find a lot of this stuff, you may have to do a search...go directly into the Recipe section and do a search within there (it should say, "Search this forum") and then type in like, "salad dressing recipe" or "ranch dressing" or "chocolate pudding recipe" or "brownie recipe" for example to find specific items.

You're going to LOVE Alissa's book... but I just sent you an email with a web site where you can very easily find lots of raw recipes. The caveat is that obviously you won't find all the tips and ideas in Alissa's book, of course. :)

Welcome and congrats on your pregnancy. What a great gift to give yourself... a healthy body and healthy baby at the same time.

All the best on your journey!

I have one suggestion... add some chia seeds (http://www.rawveganbooks.com/product_info.php?ref=199&products_id=1001333&affiliate_banner_id=1) to your diet. They are high in calcium and protein as well as omegas... all good things for your growing babe!

Veganforlife is sooo right. Your going to love Alissa's book and hopefully you got the DVD also. The DVD really helps you get a jump start and lets you know how quick and easy it is to whip up a quick meal/dessert/snack.

Salads, fruits, and smoothies are easy in the beginning. Peel and freeze bananas or seasonal fruits for smoothies. I like to combine juicy fruits with frozen fruits for texture as I prefer not to use any ice. Baby spinch and kale are great for green smoothies as they have a mild flavor. There are many threads here for salad dressings and nut/seed pates. You will need a food processor for pates. To make salads filling add lots of veggies and avocado or pates to them. Best of luck and enjoy the journey!!!
