View Full Version : Do any of you ever binge on raw foods?

I had this moment the other day...I did nothing but eat and eat and eat raw nuts. It felt like a binge! But then, I wonder if it truly were a binge or perhaps, maybe, my body just needed the fats. And so I ate until I was more than satisfied. And I haven't done that since then.
Is it truly possible to binge or overindulge on raw foods?

Not if you are truly listening to your body and what it needs. I believe that we still need balance no matter how healthy each food item is in and of itself. Are you new to raw foods? That could explain your binge - your body isn't used to having optimal nutritient density available, and wanted to grab it all in like a starving person suddenly sat to a feast! ;)

Every day! Seriously! Of late it's been cinnamon green smoothies, kale and cilantro. Can't get enough of these. This past winter it was citrus fruits.

I used to, at first. Gradually eating all raw food took away the urge to binge. It's a good feeling, having such a pleasant relationship with food :) .
But there's no harm in eating a lot of one raw food, except for maybe a mildly sore stomach.

Yep! Especially if it's something I've been crazy. Or cherries. Can't seem to help myself with cherries!:p

i still binge on nuts and i don't keep too many in the house for this reason
i figure if i was able to release soymilk, soy products, bread, bread, bread!, brown rice, lentil soup, grains, roasted garlic, milk chocolate treats, sushi, pasta, vegan pastries and cookies, paul newman double chocolate cookies, rice crackers, conventional energy bars, salty stuff, vegetarian pizza, veggie burgers & fries, thai food, indian food, chinese food and a number of other foods I used to eat regularly and often I will eventually transcend the nut bingeing :)
my point is focus on what you've accomplished, how far you've come
make gradual changes and give yourself a big hug
let go & enjoy your food

Fruit. But that's why I eat fruit; so it digests quickly and with ease. I don't feel like I "binge" with fruit, even if I eat a ton of it. I just imagine I'm an ape plucking fruit from the tree and feasting.
I used to binge on nuts; caused me mucho pain. Now I can't enjoy them at all.
My binge-reflex with raw (even fruit) is fading. My body needs less food to function optimally. I've been 100% for 8 months.

I dont really go crazy with the food-shoveling-into-mouth behavior so much anymore, but sometimes I can still get carried away with RAW CASHEWS. My stomach can only handle a small amount of nuts at a time so it's easy to go overboard.
Otherwise, I have a hard time stopping myself with cherries and grapes. I just keep popping em into my mouth and before I know it - WOOPS I ate 2 lbs of fruit in one sitting. Ha! Luckily, it passes through my system so quickly that it's never a big deal :p

I have a very large salad bowl, and I used to go to town on salad at around 1 or 2 in the morning. When I first became raw, sometimes I would eat 3 huge bowls of salad in one sitting! Before I was raw, that was the time of day when I would binge on SAD food so that's why I consider it binging. But needless to say, raw binging does a lot less damage than SAD binging. Maybe some of the emotions associated with it are the same, at least when you're first starting on raw. But after you've been raw for a while, your body knows what it needs so I wouldn't consider it binging.

Yep...and also, although the emotions in the binge might be similar, it is totally different with fruit and veg because they are often so few in calories that you would need to consume a great amount of them to get the energy you need. So it "feels" like you're binging; but you're actually not.
I have done the SAME THING with salads, could NOT get enough; especially in the beginning. Just a sign my body was really really needing the nutrients!

I find it's hard to over do raw foods....you just feel finished and it doesn't appeal to you. It's like your done.

great question!
i used to binge like a maniac when I was SAD. i now know it's because i wasn't getting nutrients my body was urgent for. i felt completely lost and out of control and a slave to food and the money i was "forced" to spend on it. i would make myself so full i'd sit in one spot and not be able to move lest i be willing to throw everything up (which i never am...)
now i feel like one of those people i always admired but didn't understand: completely in control of my food!!! so, from this place, i answer your question sincerely like this: sometimes I "overeat" raw foods, because I'm enjoying them so much or stop paying attention to body signals while I'm eating them or get carried away socially but never do i binge as i used to. now it's more like "oop, i ate too much....careful next time"
blessings,

The only time I binge is when I make a pie or a cake of some sort. I can't just have 1 piece lol

Fresh sweet watermelon. If I get a hold of a really sweet melon I'll eat until its gone or until I'm so full I can't take another bite. :D
