I just went to Giant and scored 9 perfectly edible bananas for $1.10 !!!

I don't understand why they were reduced to $.39 lb but I'm grateful!! Bananas have definitely become a main staple food for me because of how filling and inexpensive they are :)

totally, I have a local produce stand who has a special section full of "ugly" fruits & vegi's. I always look there first.

Me too, me too! My farm store has a "blemished" section. I just got a lot of zucchini for next to nothing, I still can't figure out what is supposed to be wrong with them. I eat zucchini pasta every day, and if it turns out that they won't keep long enough, I just pop them into the dehydrator and make zucchini chips. I also bought a whole lot of bananas for 25cents/lb.

Can't beat those banana bags!! I often buy those, then immediately peel and freeze them when I get home. I also sometimes score reduced baby spinach at half of the normal cost.

Could you tell me how you freeze them? In a container?

What's a 'banana bag'?

I picked up bananas for .10/lb decent to eat within 2 days. Just how I like'em. :)

She is referring to, just a Bag full of Bananas, marked down in price in the produce section.

You Simply peel the Banana, put it in a Freezer Bag and put them in the Freezer.

You will find that the Freezer can be your best Friend when it comes to finding Supermarket Deals or So much Fruit in Season.....You can Freeze them and IN ...JOY them ALL YEAR LONG.........

A banana bag is a paper bag brimming with bananas you'll sometimes see on the same table with the bunches. Many times, what I've seen out here is that they pick up all of the single bananas people have for whatever reason discarded from the bunch they wanted to buy and sell the singles at an extreme discount.

Just about any grocery store does this - I most often buy them at Ingles and Kroger.

I simply place however many I intend to use at a time into a sealable sandwich baggie into the freezer. I'll sometimes have five or six of these in the freezer. Then I have frozen bananas to make smoothies and ice creams in realistic proportions for my vitamix.

I don't think we have banana bags here. I've been all around and don't see them.

Doesn't matter. I like how the bananas don't have a bag here anyways. When I freeze I'll just put them in a reusable container to save some money, and trees. ;)

Thanks Spicy and Frugal.

Now I'm hungry for bananas, lol. :p

EmmaT- I like that store.I rarely make it to Sequim- long drive from Seattle-but thanks for the remind- I think I am coming that way in September- I shall have to stock up!

If you get to the Lavender festival I highly reccommend checking out violiin player Geoffery Castle - he is playing both days I believe:)

I have yet to freeze bananas, maybe I should start doing that and make 'ice cream' with my surplus!

I'm pretty sure most grocery stores have something along these lines, you might have to ask though!

yah, my recent discovery of dollar bags at my local shop is saving me!

bought about 15 bananas for $2. peeled them and them in the freezer for smoothies.
bought 10 over-ripe kiwis, and put them in the freezer for future pies.
bought 6 ears of perfectly good corn! gave half of them to my house mates.

I love finding produce on sale!

It wasn't too cheap but the other day, I found organic avos for $1.50 a piece...well, cheaper....considering that ther regular avos are usually $2 a piece.

Even though the produce isn't organic-sometimes the Dollar Store here will carry a ton of fresh fruits and veggies. I, at one time, picked up some of my produce there. And nothing was wrong with it at all.
