On another thread in this section, I might have mentioned recent skin woes from using commercial products that were too aggressive for me. Anyway, I found my way out of this jam by radically simplifying my routine, and utilizing a healing home-made facial mask daily - here it is:

2 tsp. of finely-ground oat flakes(I keep a jar of this handy so I'm ready to go)
1 tsp. water
1 tsp. local honey
1/2 tsp. pure aloe vera gel
Mix the water with the oats, then add the honey, and lastly the aloe gel. (Ideal if you have an aloe plant handy, but 99-100% gel from the health food store that doesn't have a whole bunch of other stuff added to it is good too) Apply to clean dry face, leave on for 20 minutes or so, and rinse off. Both the oats and the honey are anti-inflammatory and relieve itching as well, and both the honey and the aloe work on mild chemical burns too, which is basically what I had. Follow with something simple and soothing like shea butter or coconut oil. I have my own shea butter-extra-virgin coconut oil combo that I use, that has some lavender essential oil in it. Within a week of this kind of treatment, my skin was significantly improved, and within a few more days, it was completely healed up, as my reaction to the other stuff was pretty bad. I've learned my lesson - raw changes more than one's food! Someone else here commented the same and that even one's skin doesn't want processed c*** on it any more than our bodies want SAD foods!
Right now, I'm very happy to come back to very basic, simple skincare which I was into for a good while until I wandered. I'm also thinking of the boatloads of money I won't be spending on questionable toxic personal care products either - LOL!

This sounds great! I've been letting just honey sit on my face for 20 minutes, then removing it with brown sugar to exfoliate. This sounds like it might be good to try in place of my usual recipe. It sounds like the oat flakes would cover the exfoliation bit. Hmmm...

Thank you for sharing! I too stay away from skin creams and washes that have anything unnatural. They don't mix well with me. I think it's GOOD!

:)

Just be sure to have your sugar ground up fine, otherwise you will tear up your face with the full-sized particles! As far as the oats, they are a VERY gentle exfoliator, but if you want more oomph in the mask for exfoliation purposes you can switch it up to this:

2 tsp. finely-ground oats
1 tsp. organic raw apple cider vinegar(natural alpha hydrox acid)
1 tsp. local honey

Add the vinegar to the oats, then the honey. Apply to clean dry face, and leave on for 10-15 minutes, then rinse off. This will smooth the skin, and also boost circulation - you'll be glowing after this, especially with applying some shea butter or coconut oil! If you don't want as strong a mask, you can dilute the vinegar part to 1/2 tsp. water and 1/2 tsp vinegar. This is not a daily mask for sure, once or twice a week is plenty, and you can do the other one any old time, including after having gotten some sun to soothe it if you've gotten a little too much. Happy raw organicl masking!

Thank you so much!!! I actually use somewhat small brown sugar, but I have to get it wet so it shrinks before I use it, or it hurts!!! So that makes sense.

I can't wait to try your recipe. I just have to get aloe and the oat flakes. If I don't get there today, it could take me a week or two because my husband is coming to visit for 10 days (arrives in less than 24 hours!!) and he won't want to spend his time in Hungary roaming around the varied health food stores. ;)

I'll report back. I'm sure it will be lovely!
