I'm finding that I like the olive oils that have a lot of flavor. Some people might say it burns their tongue.

I enjoyed some Colavita EVOO and when I ran out of that I tried Bariani and found that it didn't have as strong a flavor. Tried another brand (Zoe?) and it was the same. Don't get me wrong, they were good, but I imagine there's some thing really wonderful out there if I can find it.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

I think the Colavita has three options -- and two of them are less mild. You may want to look for those if you know you like it.

I'm in Hungary so don't know if you would be able to find this -- but there is a German company that makes an organic, cold-pressed olive oil I really like that does have a nice bite to it -- Here is what it says on the bottle:

biopress HUILERIE; Huile Biologique Olive Vierge Extra Extraite a froid.

I have made a couple German friends recently and had a conversation just yesterday about the standards in Germany for organic -- and they are reportedly very high compared to most of the rest of the world, so I am quite pleased with this purchase for a variety of reasons. :)

This post reminds me of Peter Mayle's comments in one of his Year in Provence books. He discussed how olive oils were as different and flavorful as wines changing in colors from light to dark and from tastes from mild to spicy.

I don't know where you are located but hree in Dallas we have our choice between Whole Foods and Central Market and both have lots of shelf space devoted to varying olive oils. Both stores also, on occasion, have olive oil tastings. I do recall the best way to taste olive oil is by making an indentation with your thumb into a fresh piece of bread or drizzling it onto a bit of steamed potato.

Let us know what you find out!

I like the Bariani but I do believe they have separate harvests - one where they have a "green" olive oil which is more of a green color and it is very strong.

If you can try to get the October Harvest kind, that stuff is very strong and it is very green!

Thanks for the replies. I couldn't find the first suggestion (thanks though!) ... and I'm trying to see if Bariani has any of their October harvest left.

I didn't find any OO tastings where I live, but I did sign up for WF's newsletter with local events. Maybe I'll get lucky one day.
