Hi everyone,
I searched and have read so many posts on nama shoya but still have not found the answer I am searching for and wondered if anyone could help?
In Rainbow Green Live Food Cuisine, it is recommended not to use nama shoyu because he says it is best to avoid soy due to genetic engineering, estrogen levels and I think if you have candida issues......he says to use celtic sea salt instead.
My question is this....how would you convert a recipe calling for nama shoyu to use celtic sea salt? I have never used the nama shoyu and would have no idea how salty it is or even what it taste like.....
If the recipe calls for 1 TB namu shoya would you use that much celtic sea salt or half.....any ideas? Thanks!!! ~ Christi

Since Gabriel wrote that have you considered emailing and asking him? It's what I would do.

Ooops I changed it half way through (lol)
1Tbl of nama usually equals 1/4 Tbl (or 1/2 tsp) of s.s. ;)

*mumbles at the lil fairy's math* O.k. 3 tsps. = 1 Tbl. so, that would be 1/6th of a Tbl. ;)

1/2 to 1 tsp of Celtic Sea Salt is the equivalent of salt in 1 Tablespoon of Nama Shoyu, depending on the brand of shoyu.
Also, if you use French atlantic salt of regular sea salt, you will also have to work with it, as all brands are different
Although you won't have the same flavor of the heavy soy sauce.

Don't be sorry - VV. Sweet lips golden rule: taste as you go, and start small, you can always add, but not take away. And as for R.P. - that is another substitue that I do use with a new recipe.

Thank you for not only the correct conversion for this, but also the friendly and amusing banter, I really needed that today as it has been a day of bad news on a few different fronts! Revvell, no I had not thought to ask him. It is new to me how you guys do that and hard for me to realize that raw people are helpful, pleasant, considerate, etc! Thanks again everyone! I will make a note of these measurements in my books! Oh, I received Alissa's book today but will have to wait until tomorrow to start reading.....I did skin over a few recipes but my mind is just not up for it tonight....

Given that this stuff isn't a significant part of one's diet, just go with Bragg's Liquid Aminos that costs less and is rather more easily found.
