We only get dried ones where I live, sad isn't it? And there are only 3 varieties...Medjool, Deglet, and something else.
I'm interested in buying dates online, possibly from the Date People, and would love to know what other varieties are like before purchasing.
I like medjools and DO NOT like Deglets. :) Thanks!!!

In place of dates - raisins? Figs?

Get a sample box from the date people. Then you can decide which you like the best.

I can't spend $20+ not knowing what they taste like...

I almost always use raisins in place. Or if it's a pie crust recipe I just use agave. My favorite pie crust is simple...almonds, coconut, and agave mixed in FP. It's that easy and it's a huge hit.

Medjool dates = what I eat when I'm dying for sweets! Love them!

They ALL taste similar. Sweet and good. How do you know until you try them...?

You can use the softer, lighter colored figs. They are both cheaper and lower on calories. The reason I think raw food recipes don't feature them as much, I think, is because they're harder to blend smooth, even after soaking. (The black ones won't blend at all and are too strongly flavored for most recipes.) Golden raisins are sweet and blend well when soaked, too.

How will you know what they taste like until you taste them? That's why they offer the sample pack.

Okay, but the Deglets are a really disgusting texture and I don't want to order a gift amount and have them be a similar texture! Blech.

Have you had them from Date People? Might be different but you'll never know if you don't check 'em out. Different batches from different places taste different. I get my medjools from 3 different places and they are all different.

I have a question: are all dates raw or does it have to saw 'raw' on the package? I just got a tub of dried dates at Costco and I'm thinking that they probably aren't raw...

I just heard from the bulk dept at my HFS that they are steaming dried dates now. WTF???

LMAO. I think about this every time I eat dates. I open them with my fingers, do a worm search, and only then do I feel okay about eating the date...haha.

Yeah...dates can have worms inside. Apparently so can raisins...
