I haven't had a period in like 4 months or so. Is that werid? Everything else about me is doing great on raw...this period issue worries me though. i know im not pregnant..It's definitely raw foods...why is this happening?

Definitely talk to your Dr but the same thing happened to me when I was young. My Dr said it was nothing to worry about I was going through changes and that happens. But like I said talk to your Dr.

I've heard two things about this.
1) eating raw=thin=possibly too thin=no period
2) animals in the wild do not bleed. they ovulate but don't bleed. this is our unnatural way and it happens from eating cooked foods. pets also bleed b/c they're eating cooked processed crap.
I've never found out if 2 is accurate...just what I've heard. But it makes sense. Who really wants to deal with blood?

I'm right there with you! Although i'm a bit older than you (36) I was super regular and then when I lost about 12 pounds (even though I was only around 117 before) my period went away. it's been four months for me. I'm trying to go with the theory that my body is just regulating itself and when it's ready to start again... it will. I'm avoiding going to my ob/gyn because I'm sure she'll just put me on hormones and I'm not interested -- went off the pill almost a year ago and not overly interested in going back on it.
If this continues, I may go to the acupuncturist for help.

there are many people out there who will tell you that this is a healthy sign but Do Not Beleive it until you check it out for yourself! a great way to see if this is ok is to ensure that you are still ovulating. there are some ovulation tracking tools out there like the ovutrac and others that indicate definitely whether ovulation has occured or not.
take care, loss of menses is a serious sign from your body that something is out of alignment. it's not something to panic over but it sure is something to make you sit up and take note.

i had mine gone for also about 4-5 months.. so weird! it wasn't because of raw though- at that point i came to the conclusion it was rapid weight loss and lots of stress...

Mine just came back.. well actually i was taking steps to calmind down, i was drinking some herbal teas my mom sent me (i'm not sure which ones, you can probably google herbs that induce menstruation)...

Just curious, when you started raw food, did you also start to exercise? If so, this is why. If this is due to only raw food, then i would be intrigue to know why. I haven't have this condition.

Hope you figure this out!

My Dr. told me (while tentatively diagnosing me with PCOS) that not having your period can lead to future higher cancer risks, the lining of the uterus (endometrium) still builds up, but isn't shed month after month, & can cause problems~

She wanted to put me on the pill & make it come at least every 3 months, but raw has been doing that for me~

I hope you get some answers soon...

...there can be other things going on, too, that can stop your cycle...

...remember that just because you go for tests/diagnosis doesn't mean you have to follow their advice/take their prescriptions...it's still good, important to know what's going on...

Very low body fat will cause you to stop having a period...it happened to me when I was a competitive runner. It also happens to alot of anorexic women (not saying *you* are, just they too, tend to have very low body fat) and once the woman's body fat goes up above a certian percent, the period returns. High stress levels will cause missed periods, as would a healing crisis(or detox), along with a whole host of other things.

I am of the don't worry mentality...but I would not let it go on too long. Seeing your GYN does not mean you have to go on hormones. Have him/her check you out and if he/she sees all is well and then suggests hormones to make all right with your uterus you can a) decline or b)take the Rx, nod politely and throw it away when you get home. Rx's don't HAVE to be filled ;) As long as there is nothing wrong beyond no period, there are plenty of natural ways to get things going again.

Any time there is a dramatic change and the body has other things to adjust to, it will protect itself before allowing it to get pregnant. This happens for other reasons besides just losing weight. It happens to people who gain weight rapidly, too... and people under stress. If your food change was really dramatic, from sad to raw, that may have been enough. I'm 43 and have had five or six times in my life without periods for a couple of months. They always came back and I never knew if I should be happy or sad!

This is so interesting. I hope you get this situation resolved and get some medical advice.

I haven't had mine in about 4 months, either. I went to my doctor, and she said to give it 3 more months, and if I don't start, she's going to put me back on the pill.

I read that a healthy young female who has been raw for a fairly substantial time (I don't know how long) will not bleed during her period but have a clear flow, not very much.

Maybe that's it.

i've been reading about parsley tea that supposedly helps start it... I may give it a try... Haven't had mine since April and really don't want to go back on hormones!
You might want to read up on the tea.
