I LOVE having cereal in the morning. I can do "high" raw for a few days, but I always miss my cereal. Granted, I eat a "good" cereal, but I was wondering if you had a replacement recipe---that is delicious---that could replace this addiction?

Thank you in advance,

Some people love sprouted and dehydrated buckwheat as a cereal with a nut or seed milk. Some also use raw oats to make granola. I am just getting to know chia seeds. I'm not sure if they'd work for you as they are soft and gel like rather than crunchy, but they are very good for you. Here's a post I wrote this morning:
"I made a wonderful chia seed "cereal" this morning. I put a tablespoon of the seeds in a bowl. I added 1-2 tablespoons of dried coconut, dried mulberries, and soaked sunflower seeds. Then I chopped 10 almonds and added them. I put in about a half of a cup of slightly warm water, stirred, and let it all sit for 15 or 20 minutes. I admit I added a tiny drizzle of agave syrup on top , and then I ate it. I found it to be very satisfying and delicious! You could change it up depending on the foods you have around."

I, too, used to be a cereal-addict. I've now started experimenting with granola... and mine is so much better than the storebought!
I wish I could remember the ratios I used.. and I'll admit I'm not sure oats really are 100% raw but I used them anyway...
I mixed about a cup of oats, 1 cup of nuts (I used almonds and walnuts) I think I used about 1/4 or 1/2 cup of dates, and then I put half a green apple in the blender with a bit of water so there was some liquid some chunks and mixed that in... and, of course, threw in a few shakes of cinnamon... then dehydrated for a few hours... suffice it to say, i made myself sick eating so much of it last night because it was so good I just couldn't stop eating! (if i find my recipe again I'll update this posting)

BTW.. I also found making green smoothies in the morning helped me get over the cereal addiction too -- but of course, still love my granola!

I have switched my children over to the buckwheat crispie recipe in Raw Food Real World. I cut waaaay back on the maple syrup (not truly raw...I'm sure you could sub a raw syrup) and they are still divine! My 6 yo eats them like a cracker, but my two older boys adore them with rice milk.

Thank you for the suggestions. :)

Could you please tell me the recipe for the Buckwheat crispie--the way you make it? I would love to try that!

Thanks!

Take buckwheat. Sprout it. Dehydrate until crispy. That's it.

My recipe, adapted from RFRW.

Soak 2 C buckwheat (I usually soak in the morning and make the cereal when I get around to it in the afternoon/evening) drain and rinse well.

In food processor combine:
buckwheat
1/2 C maple syrup (or raw syrup of choice)
1 - 2 tsp vanilla
1 tsp cinnamon
pinch of salt

pulse until the consistency of oatmeal. Spread on 2 teflex sheets and dehydrate for 8 - 10 hours. Peel off teflex, flip and continue to dehydrate until crisp.

I break them up into fairly large pieces since my dd likes them dry. My boys just break them up more into their bowls when they have cereal.

You can make cocoa crispies by omitting the cinnamon and subbing 1 - 2 TBS cocoa.

The RFRW buckwheaties are great...it's the maple syrup that adds to their great crispiness.
Granola is good too.....you can also make "oatmeal" with oat groats and a faster version with buckwheat groats.soak for an hour...rinse very well.blend in fp with agave, cinnamon, etc...process till not quite smoothe.
