I don't work there anymore, lol.
To everyone interesting in going there...make sure you call first before showing up...the owner sets her own schedule. The hours on the website are wrong, but even so, she often closes for weeks at a time without notice. Right now she's closed for a week. That's one reason it's hard to work there...you can't rely on the income.

wow, that's good to know. I have only eaten there twice and both times I just showed up .. thankfully she was open. The owner is really nice, I was surprised that she remembered me the second time I was there.
it must be hard to stay open all the time because I would imagine that there are times when business is slow, right? If I lived in Ithaca I would eat there much more frequently... unfortunately I'm in Syracuse.

Why didn't anyone tell me about this place?!
I was in Ithaca, NY last weekend and it would have been a pleasure to try it out.
*sigh* it's something to look forward too next time I am in Ithaca, I guess. That will probably be 5-6 months from now.

just to make people aware.. I believe everything wellness has closed down now, which is too bad. I looked forward to going there whenever I was in Ithaca.

Don't worry Luna, you probably would have been disappointed anyway. The food we make at home is better :) Some day maybe we'll have another raw food restaurant...

oh, I had eaten there a few times.. and you're right.. the food was ok but I could have probably made it at home... I just liked being able to support a raw food business like. If anyplace in Upstate NY was going to have a proper raw food restaurant though, I would think Ithaca would be it!

Yea, Wow, we moved to the border of NY in PA just last week. Yucky produce.
only one little grocery store. But the amazing thing is my hubby had a service call in Auburn NY, and went through Ithaca, which is the biggest city closest to us, which is still about 1.5/2hr away. We were already thinking of going there for other shopping. But it would be well worth the drive for produce that is less yucky. Maybe a co-op or some way to buy bulk, we are a family of 10 so we eat....
thank you ahead of time for suggestions...
Kristi:)

Fabulous co-op in Ithaca called GreenStar. It's $10 a year to join and you get a 2% discount if you don't work and a 17.5% if you can commit to working 2 hours a week. We have a whole raw foods section and of course we have tons of organic produce and bulk items.
It's at 701 W. Buffalo.

And as for GreenStar, I forgot to mention if you order a case of something ahead of time, you get a 5% discount on the case plus your discount of either 2% or 17.5%. But only if the item is not on sale. I LOVE getting cases of fruit.

I used to live in Ithaca in the early 90's. Anyway, what I miss most about Ithaca is the incredible 2 day Farmer's market that happens every weekend. It is the largest, most organic, and amazing farmers market that I have seen. I traveled across the country once and visited many cool college towns that had lovely farmer's markets, but none came close to the one in Ithaca.
Near Ithaca is also another gem, an amazing IPM fruit orchard called "Little Tree Orchards" U Pick, that grows the most delicious Peaches, Plums, Apricots and Apples. It was such a blessing to be able to buy tree-ripened, locally grown IPM fruit that tasted like Nectar of the Goddess! The peaches melted in your mouth, sweet, juicy and alive!!!
If you can, check them out during their harvest season.Here's their link;

You can check out the Ithaca Farmers Market website here

Unfortunately they are closed until Spring.
All the best,
Elena

Yes, the farmer's market (now closed for the winter) is amazing!!!
However, I don't support Little Tree. They spray so heavily you can actually smell the pesticides when you are a mile from their farm. Maybe they didn't spray so much when you lived here, but it's badddd right now.
It is always hard for me to choose between eating organic or eating local, but I just can't support what farms like that do to the environment.
