Hi I am new to Raw Food, of course the reason that I joined this list! I feel somewhat overwhelmed at trying to make the right foods. I have been juicing for a few months and love it! I have just learned about green smoothies and I am waiting for my Vita Mix to come, well now just using both smoothie maker and juicer and they are delicious. I am about 90% raw now and finding it difficult to keep going when you read all the different books everybody seems to have their own opinion. I ususally try before I buy a book for that reason. I am terrified of the food in the real world and want to make everything from scratch at home. I have been making my own bread for months. I am trying to go dairy and gluten free?? maybe thats too much to bite off? I am not unhealthy I have the low T3 and T4 numbers and am taking a pre thyroid natural approach to my health. I have been abused by the medical system for too long now and want to take charge of my body. I am here for encouragement and learning. Thanks Sue from Colorado

I just used Allissa's book and that was it. I used this forum for support and recipes and let my body tell me the rest. There is soooo much information out there that it is overwhelming. I didn't try to count calories or measure fat grams or think I was cheating if I had pie for b/fast.:p I ate what my body wanted. I discovered that nourishing the body was so important after coming off of a junk diet with no nutrition. Lots of greens, smoothies, juices, salads. I eat avocados almost daily-they are staples(They are supposed to make you fat:rolleyes: -I think not-lost 17 pounds:D ) Eat to nourish your body and the weight and transformation will happen. Good luck!!!
My favorite beginner smoothie is bananas, strawberries, handful of spinach, water- very easy to digest and tasty. Peaches, spinach, bananas are also good.

I didnt intentionally start this to lose weight although 10lbs has gone somewhere..i did it for my health and reading about it made sense to me .
So do you try to incorporate all kinds of recipies? or maybe I am trying to hard here to make the family more willing to eat this way. I started with just the juicing all the greens i could find. Now I have slowed down to just the green smoothies. I went out looking for her book today 3 bookstores and ended up buying Raw Foods for Idiots :) I have about 6 books from the library and also pH balancing books. I want to stay eating this way but it seems that alot of people say its hard (even my ND) Reading alot of posts here on this forum I see that too much of one thing is not good like nuts or dates. It seems like you have to plan almost 2 days in advance to have your meal prepped. I am dehydrating things that were to take a few hours (raw recipies) that are taking many hours.. is this normal?

Welcome from yet another Coloradoan! I live in Kremmling, CO in the mountains.

I know there are raw food meetups in Denver. (I'm not sure where you live) http://rawfood.meetup.com/203/ You join the yahoo group and they send you emails about when they meet up. They have pot lucks, basically. You bring a dish with a recipe and share it. I haven't gone to one since I live in the mountains, so I can't tell you from direct experience if they are any good, but some day I will get down there :0)

Also, Alissa's video was what got me going and knowing I could cook raw. After I watched that video, I immediatly started cooking raw and have been about nearly 100% after that. Then, of course, I read her book. But the video was the hands-on training I needed to really believe it was possible to eat and cook this way.

Good luck!

Boulder very active for those who have never been with us. egroups.com, Boulder Raw. Worth the drive! Plan ahead for tonight or Aug. 23 next rawluck (exception for 23rd in Longmont--usually 1x yearly). No Sept. dates yet. Next month's dates coming soon, but haven't looked ahead yet. Oh, bring plates / utensils especially if we are still outside so you can feast too.

Hi there, i am excited that I am almost one week raw already. this has been part of a long term plan that is actually happening. I have been searching for a eating style that is healthy for me and resonates with me too, so I am giving this a committed effort. I have weight issues and just lost 80 lbs. again (yes I have been a yo yo) and still would like to lose another 40 or 50 but I want to be healthy too and the typical weight loss programs are not. I used one to get in the right space to do this and now I am ready to do my raw plan.
I am for the most part following Alissa's book and DVD and they are great, I do look at other books of course but I have to watch I don't get myself too many ideas that might confuse this and make it too much. Alissa's seems like a good beginning program and I like her simple approach.
I am excited about this forum and have already been inspired by what I have read, thank you so much for posting your stories!

Hi Sue, first of all bravo! for committing to the raw lifestyle. When i first started, I too, read everything I could get my hands on, scoured the internet for even more information, watched the various YouTube videos, etc.

The result? Way too much information! I was so excited in the beginning. Juicing, salads, fruits, avos, etc. I felt GREAT! But then I started to become disillusioned. What am I losing out on if I'm not dehydrating? What if I should be eating XXXX greens. Organic? Wild harvested? Oh NO! Now I have to sprout too? No wait, there's a mold issue....

It sounds like you've done your homework. You have the building blocks. So now, slow down. Keep it simple. Basic. Don't make it too complicated. Get the basics down until they are second nature and then if you feel like you are ready to take it to another level you'll be more grounded and not so apt to get overwhelmed like I did.

Dairy and gluten free? Absolutely! LIVING foods not processed.

I fell off the Raw Wagon because I let myself believe that if my diet wasn't Perfect (according to all the information out there) then what was the point? It sounds as tho you have more discipline and dedication than I did so you are way ahead of the game.

I am going back to raw, living foods. Right now. Starting today. You reminded me why I started in the first place.

Thank you. You came here looking for support and helped me find my way back.

I have attended two rawlucks in Denver, CO via the meetup group, but not sure if this is same link. Scott is the main man who runs that group. It has been very nice both times.

The Boulder group is the one I am associated with, www.egroups.com, Boulder Raw. I post the 2x monthly rawlucks. Excellent turnout always but no rsvp so whoever shows is welcome.

Aloha and Welcome to RFT!!! Simple is good... I got Alissa's book and followed the 30 day plan. I didn't worry about measuring what I ate - counting calories, or weighing my self for the first 30 days - I just followed the plan - ate when I was hungry -- and couldn't believe how FULL I was! Plus the variety of foods I was eating was great.

then at the end of that first 30 days at 100% raw -- I was shocked at how my body had changed.... what Alissa says on her DVD is so true.... you will be amazed at the changes you experience...

You won't regret the journey!! I'm so glad you have joined us!!
RAWk on!!
