I tried making a veggie sushi roll last night for dinner. The nori roll got a little soggy and when I bit into it the nori roll was chewy. Is that normal? It seems like when I had sushi at a restraunt that it was never chewy like that. Could it be the brand of nori?

Restaurants use toasted nori. We use raw. That may be the difference. Mine's always nice and chewy. Ummm, is that REALLY a disaster?

Isnt' the point to keep the filling inside the nori roll..lol? Mine when I bit into it all fell out as the darn thing was so hard to chew. It tasted good but just wish I could have made it look prettier and it wasn't so hard to eat!

probably your filling was too wet. Yes, toasted nori stays drier longer, but even it gets chewy and gooey if the filling is too wet. What did you put inside?

I agree. I love the "rubbery" consistency...
Just cut it up with a knife and fork and have at it!

I used leftover guacamole, ground cauliflower, carrots, celery, cuke and sprouts inside of it. So what is the trick to keep the filling INSIDE??? :D
I usually line my nori with a layer of baby spinach to help keep it dry. I love ani phyo's ginger almond pate nori rolls.
Almond Ginger Pate
1 Tablespoon ginger (I use fresh ginger root)
1 clove garlic
1/2 teaspoon sea salt (I use a little nama shoyu for flavor)
1 cup almonds, dry
1 lemon’s juice
1/4 cup filtered water
Blend in food processor
Nori Rolls
2 sheets nori (raw)
1 batch Ginger Almond Pate
2 cups spinach
1/2 carrot, cut lengthwise
1 cup mung bean sprouts
Enjoy!!

Veganforlife that was great!!!! Good thing I didn't have anything in my mouth or I would have choked on it...lol
Jen thanks for the recipe. that sounds good. I think I will try that. I have almost all the ingredients but the spinach.

i, too, used to have that problem. i recently read a great tip to keep it from getting soggy-first, line the nori with greens, collards or chard, im guessing. i have yet to test this one, but i got the tip from a famous raw restaurant's website, can't remember which one it was, though :o
