I have never done any kind of fast before.

I would love to try a Juice Fast to clean out my system from the low carbing I have been doing and of course the SAD.

Can I combine fruits with veggies for the fast? Or should I just do fruits alone?

Which books do you all recommend to learn more about fasting and detoxing the system?

you can totally combine... i prefer to do apple with greens and pineapple with wheatgrass and/or spirulina... otherwise i do fruits alone.

i love angela stokes book 'juice feasters handbook (http://www.rawveganbooks.com/product_info.php?ref=199&products_id=1001278&affiliate_banner_id=1)' as well as jeremy safron's (http://www.timelessspirit.com/JULY08/review1.shtml).

Moretta....personally, I will juice whatever is in season and i feel like. One thing to keep in mind is that veg is high nutrition and low calorie whereas fruit is the opposite.

You can easily keep up with your nutrition intake with a free account at www.FitDay.com (http://www.FitDay.com).

A combo that I like would be 4 carrots, 1 fuji apple, 1 orange, handful of berries, after juicing blend that with 1 banana and a spoonful of spirulina.

When I did my 30 day juice fast, I naturally was consuming about 300 calories per day and on some days simply wanted water. I lost 32 pounds that month and felt better than I ever had in my life. Even though I started for health/vanity reasons, the most lasting memory was what happens when the detox hits you emotionally/spiritually.

Two of the best support forums I've found are the ones for Water Fasting and Weight Fasting that are on www.CureZone.com (http://www.CureZone.com). The water fasting board in particular has some wonderfully, experienced people there.

As for reading, there are good books; however, there are great sites as well (and free!). You can check out www.FreedomYou.com (http://www.FreedomYou.com) and www.JuiceFasting.org (http://www.Juicefasting.org). Also, the videos on www.YouTube.com (http://www.Youtube.com) by FastingGurl31 are excellent.

Good luck!

Thanks ladies for the great information and websites. :)

How much should one be drinking in a day while fasting? Is it 1 gallon of juice and 1 gallon of water?

Not sure, can someone clarify for me.

Thanks.

feasting is 1 gallon of juice and 1 gallon of water
fasting is anything below that amount

there is no "should be drinking" while fasting

Listen to your body. There are no hard and fast rules as everyone is different. When I did my 30 day fast, I know for a fact that there was not a single day where I consumed anywhere close to 1 gallon of juice. Some days I only averaged 1 glass and there was a couple day period in the middle where I only had water because that's all my body wanted.

On the water fast, typically I have four-20 ounce tumblers of water. Some days that might be more but not often. There was one day, I believe day 3 where I simply couldn't get enough to drink. I put a smidgen of sea salt under my tongue to dissolve and within 10 minutes I was fine. That was the only time during the 8 days I needed to do that.

Something about the sea salt helps the water adhere so you eliminate the dehydrated feeling and it doesn't take much salt at all to do that.

One person on the Curezone.com water fasting board was all fired up that "I'd broken my fast over that." But those that have fasted long term all admit to making adjustments when needed whether that be a squeeze of citrus into the water or a pinch of salt.

Listen to your body and go with the flow....it'll all be good!
